Great cinema for classical movies, I have seen A matter of life and death. The venue is very cosy with a bar and for every movie, there is a bulletin with an analysis about why it is appreciated - you can also watch a little video on youtube about what to notice in the movie before seeing it. That way it's easier to appreciate the older movies that might be harder to appreciate for a contemporary audience. Under 25s also get movies for just 3 pounds! There are no ads before the movie so come on time!

Saw a presentation with the Call The Midwife actors. That was excellent. Security raises questions though as nobody even checked to see if we had tickets. I was quite surprised at that.

My favorite place in London. All kind of arthouse movies, carefully curated. The seating, screens and reception are very nice, especially cleaner than the commercial chains. The ticket price is dirt cheap. Become a member and you can get even more discounts, early booking and viewing plan. If you love filmaking, the BFI is like your visual library, your playground.

Loved this place for new and old screenings! Went here for a special preview of Netflix's Obsession and Q&A session with Richard Armitage and Indira Varma who were great! Indira was especially hilarious and charming. Also went here for a screening of Barbie and the atmosphere was incredible. Such an enthusiastic audience, it really lifted our spirits too. NFT1 is their main screen where we saw both. The cafe and bar are also great to chill before or after a screening.

One of my favourite places in London! They screen contemporary and classic films and often feature Q&A sessions with directors, actors, critics and more. Under-25s can get film tickets for £3 which was amazing for me!

Classy causal riverside drinking and dining. Great atmosphere, lots of space for social distancing. Definitely worth a visit for a drink or two if wandering down the Southbank.

Attended this venture for a Netflix preview screening and the place felt luxurious and the staff were great! The screen itself was clean and very well kept with extremely good quality! Had a really great time and will certainly return sometime soon 🥰

Beautiful space to watch beautiful movies. Extremely clean, comfortable seats, and passionate staff who were happy to direct us to our screen. Also a good variety of food and drinks to purchase beforehand or for your show!

This is an amazing place to see a movie. Lovely knowledgeable staff, very comfortable seats, sound and vision just perfect without the overly loud volume which hurts your ears and makes you wince. You can get some very reasonably priced tickets as well as see movies which haven't been globally distributed. I highly recommend that you visit this place.

Visited this place while trying to kill some time between attractions. Managed to get a table of 5 straight away at around 3pm on a Thursday. Funky restaurant/bar joined onto the cinema. Had some chips and pizza. Service was quick! Made the pizza greasy as watched them do it. Food was nice. Ok price for the location. Place was pretty clean. Visited the toilets which where ok….. Great location and imagine quite funky at night.

I have been visiting it for 15 years. One of the best place to meet up for drinks or coffee... Especially if you are into films... I have started visiting it at least once a week for my work. Great place for it. The music is nice but not too loud. And staff are super friendly...

Was disappointed that there was nowhere to purchase food or drink using cash. I don't have a card so starved and had to use the free water. Such an uncomfortable experience. Please add flexibility to the bar and café the pandemic is over and by refusing to take cash you have created a two tier environment

It's a nice cinema, feels more like a theater, quite 'adult' feeling actually. I recommend definitely if you're under 25, you can get £3 tickets if you sign up (for free). Plays a few new releases but mainly old movies from what I could gather

I've never been to the BFI Southbank before although I've offered gone past it when visiting London. The main reason why I came today was that because The Wicker Man is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year. It made sense to come and see this iconic movie over here. If you're a film fan or you like movie archives. This is really the best place to go to. I used to work at a cinema chain a while ago and I consider it an honour to come here, a few years back I also helped out at the London Film Festival.

Attended a world film premiere (The Book of Clarence) here and it was very well organised. The staff including security had excellent customer service. The whole evening was fun and the film was brilliant. Fabulous cinema, great night.

An absolutely amazing experience. The most amazing cinematic experience I've ever had! Can't wait till we can go again. The cafe was super with good coffee and fab brownies. The screen was enormous. It is as if you are in the movie. The sound is phenomenal, you can literally feel it. The upscale to iMax of the movie was flawless. We watched Bladerunner and the level of detail you can see is like being in set. Breathtaking.

It's a very nice venue it's more suited to theatre productions though but the staff were very friendly and considerate to the customers (myself included) who didn't really know where to go and would ask questions as to where can I get a drink, the film I went to was "Boy and The Heron" or "How Do You Live" and the seats were very comfy I'd say an overall very good experience (unfortunately no pictures as I was in a rush to get to the film screen as I had went to the wrong cinema for the film) but I did ask about a drink for another person. This is a picture of the outside of the venue so again very nice scenery.

Adventure and crowds await. Lessons learned in wait times and groups visiting to experience epic sound with. Instruments and magic tools of discovery like iMax and film. Time and magic collide with film. Sometimes deep personal film sometimes silly comedic film but film as a sacred art left for the viewers to experience something adventurous and new. That engages with all one’s sense.

Incredible screen and very comfy seats. Being able to see Oppenheimer here was a highlight for me. Nothing will live up to that crystal clear sound and stunning visuals! The staff were very helpful too and asked if it was our first time, then explained briefly where everything was and seemed genuinely excited for us to see the film! Really friendly. Will come again soon.

I went to the small cinema (studio) which has roughly 35-40 seats. Saw Past Lives which was phenomenal. I felt like I was eavesdropping to Celine Song’s (Director) life throughout the movie. I think this movie will win an Academy and a BAFTA. One reminiscent thing though about the cinema, there is this certain smell to it which reminded me of how old-ish cinemas back home smell. It is not very unpleasant but it also is not pleasant but I think is a very common smell of cinemas. Haha. I can’t exactly point it out but that is what it reminded me of.

Came to this classic venue to watch Stray Dog a vintage 1940s Japanese film, screen was good size and seats are not modern but comfortable! Highly recommend to check the film list from BFI. Also Spike Lee was there receiving his fellowship award. Sometimes you bump into special screenings!

The BFI on the Southbank, is such a lovely venue to meet friends and family. The films are great, especially at Christmas, when they have my favourite film on, 'It's a wonderful life', but both bars and the coffee shop, are nice to pop in, either on your own or with friends and family.

A proper cinema on the center of London - the screening rooms are clean, with eloquent decoration and design, making any film you’re watching feel like you’re watching a premiere. The lack of fresh popcorn is a bummer but the extensive bar and cafe make up for it. Would definitely recommend.

Went here Last weekend to see the performance of the Railway Children on the big screen at the BFI Southbank. It was a meet and greet performance though Jenny Agetuer Was unable to be there due to having covid but did send a special message to all the fans that turned up We saw some of the cast but we didn't see Sheridan Smith. It was a great day I totally enjoyed it would recommend the film to everyone.

We went to the BFI for a special event for Call The Midwife. It's a lovely place, & not difficult to get to either. Whilst it was busy (where isn't in London?) It was still a lovely place & experience, & I'd definitely go again!

The cinema projection and specialist films are excellent. The venue is very nice and well maintained but purposeful rather than swish and more modern cinemas have plusher seats. I'd like to go back to the cavernous bar area - unfortunately no time that day. The building is a bit of a maze so allow time to find your screen. If you haven't seen "Pather Panchali" then seek it out.

Fantastic cinema with an ever changing set of films on. An institution.

I went there last week to watch The French Dispatcher. Very good film by Wes Anderson. You can hang out in the foyer before the film starts a variety of seating. The film was shown in the studio which was a small theatre. Just don't sit on the front row, just a bit too close to the screen.

Went here for food today, has the halloumi and mushroom burger, really well cooked, lovely tasting. Really good service (think our waiter was a chap called Enrico). Really reasonable price. Would recommend a visit.

Comfortable cinema with several screens, on the South Bank of London, near Waterloo Station. A wide range of modern and old films, from all over the world. Definitely worth the membership.

  • 3/5 Eddie C. 2 years ago on Google
The actual cinema screen itself was nice, the experience of getting to the screen was dreadful, due to staggered screens, I had to enter the cinema through a delivery entrance which was not nice with all the glamour of a dustbin, completely unnecessary as well to separate screen entrances as the film times are staggered and the screens are literally next to each other. But, I only paid £3 so it was worth it, I saw the Elephant Man which was brilliant.

The under 25s 3 quid cinema tickets are invaluable, screens are massive and the seats comfortable. Mix of new art house releases and classics, you know whatever you go and see here will be good. What's not to love
