Absolute joke of a store. Every-time I come in here the staff are unbelievably lazy, no one seems to know anything nor do they want to help. If you do end up troubling them a few times and forcing them to help you they show the upmost attitude. Absolutely disgusting service from this store, head-office need to have a serious look at these staff members.

Only great if you enjoy waiting in a long checkout queue at B&Q’s convenience to give them your money. It’s a wonder they can even be bothered to be in business!

Consistently awful. Predictably abysmal. Never been to a worse hardware store. 9 out of 10 staff have no basic DIY knowledge, and are incredibly unhelpful with atrocious attitudes. Today was the worst trip so far. The website said that the branch had stock of replacement planer blades for electric planes. I looked around for them forever. Then I looked for a member of staff forever. Eventually found one, who seemed surprised and confused that electric planes even existed. I said they should be in stock. He said he would get 'someone from hardware' to help me, then legged it and didn't come back. I stood there waiting for about 7 minutes. Spent ages trying to find another staff member. The next one also seemed surprised that electric planes had been invented. Despite me pointing out that the website said they had them in stock, he tried pretending they didn't sell them, and also gormlessly legged it. 10 minutes later, I found them by myself. Went to the self-service. As I was about to pay, the self-service assistant walked over and turned the screen away so I couldn't see it, without saying a single word, then turned it back to me on the payment screen. As I paid, I had a suspicion the total had gone up from £150 to £170. I checked the receipt and saw one of the items had been duplicated (adding the £20), and it definitely wasn't me who did it. I eventually got his attention and told him I'd been charged twice, and he shrugged and said he couldn't refund me, and that i had to join the long queue for the only cashier to do so. Would have been a 10-15 minute shop anywhere else. Took me the best part of an hour.

Went to buy hose fitting, couldn't find then anywhere even though there is a huge gardening area. Had to ask three members of staff who simply weren't interested, one of which was working in that area. Finally got a sensible response from the customer service desk assistant. Some serious staff training needed form that person may go a long way !

SO RUDE! It's B&Q, so serves an obvious purpose. Prices are good and stock maintained, just keep an eye on the totals at the till. My plants were all entered with 50p added, which in total increased the shop by around £12. The man was so rude when I queried it - either B&Q are on the fiddle or they're treating staff so badly they all hate it.

Dire jobsworth customer service!!! I needed some help to reach a stand for an expensive 300 litre water tank I was buying. The guy I asked said he was a bit busy (he was stacking shelves in the garden section) but he’d get someone else. Who of course never came. I asked another member of staff in uniform but she was off shift apparently doing her personal flower shopping. Duh.The stands were way above head height and were filled with water - we did manage to get a stand with heaving and tipping and splashing thanks to husbands gorilla grip but no thanks to staff!. Then lengthy wait at tills. The barcode on the expensive plant pot I was buying couldn’t be read by the scanner so I was told to go back to gardening right at the opposite end of the store… you mean we should drag a long bed trolley with a massive water tank, two stands, a concrete slab and plants on board all that way ? And what then, go to the back of the queue? No way so I just left it at the til. A plant I was buying which clearly said £9 on the label scanned as £12. The cashier plainly had made a mistake but he was adamant so I left that at the till too (I think he scanned another plant twice but couldn’t be bothered to check). Frankly am speechless at the level of service. Spent £155 but won’t be coming back.

I had a rather disappointing experience at the hardware store recently, primarily due to the attitude of one of their employees. Unfortunately, the lady who was supposed to assist me in finding something I needed seemed disinterested and even rude throughout the interaction. I approached her with a polite request for assistance, but she barely acknowledged my presence. When I asked for help in locating a specific item, her response was curt and unhelpful. It felt as though she had no intention of making any effort to assist me or provide any guidance. Her lack of interest and dismissive behavior made my visit to the hardware store quite frustrating. As a customer, I expect a basic level of courtesy and willingness to assist, but unfortunately, this particular employee fell far short of those expectations. In the future, I hope the store management can address issues like this to ensure a more pleasant shopping experience for all customers. Good customer service is crucial, and it was sorely lacking in this instance.

It's the place I often HAVE to go. Given a better choice I wouldn't. Stock options aren't bad but attention to customer queues is rubbish. Last time I was there had to wait 15 minutes in the queue. What I was buying wasn't suitable for the self service checkout. The one manned till also doubles as the customer service/returns point!!!??? Ludicrous - 3 members of staff just having a scratch at the order collection point nearby. Manager? If there is one they keep well away from the checkout area in case of having to address customer frustration

Every part of b&q was fantastic. The experience was sealing a loyal customer. This time i Bought a dehumidifier online. It arrived. Worked well but then unfortunately broke down. Called helpline on sunday who said theyd pass on my message tomorrow. The manager emailed directing me to go in store for refund. So i drove to closest 3 miles away (cr04ya) Was directed to correct place inside. Staff had good comms. Then No quibble refund and all the staff including security were unbelievably polite and friendly. I wanna work there now!!!! 5**** We love b&q

One of the store managers with a black beanie should really learn how to respect and treat the customers. I don’t know his name, but he had no manners at all. I was there to buy a light, it was the last in stock, the box was fully damaged and super dusty. I requested for additional discount pointing out the issues. The way he treated me for that request was unacceptable. He sarcastically asked his colleague to dust and give it to me. I bought that item in the end, but it took me some time to process how I was treated. So, I’ve decided to return the item.

I ordered 5 packages of tiles for click and collect at Croydon store. While still on trolley, I noticed all packages are damaged with broken pieces of tiles everywhere. I asked for replacement but the answer was that all the items are the same. Of course, I returned the items right away but it wasted my time 10 miles journey to this store. Is that really the best of quality B&Q can offer?!

Choosing B&Q for my bathroom was a wrong decision and caused an expensive and long-dragging saga. When you buy B&Q toilet units, it does not come with a worktop. It has to be ordered separately. Nonsense like this caused delays in the installation and extra cost on plumbers. I bought B&Q toilet units and Angela in B&Q Sutton referred Josh from "Moonlight builders ltd" in Carshalton to help me with the installation. Then my plumber nightmare started. Josh is nice as a person, but as a result of his work, after all the money I spent, I am left with A NEW LEAK (that had never happened in the history of this flat) to fix. 1. Incompetence After his work to install a new toilet, my downstairs neighbor started having a leak coming down from the ceiling of their bathroom. So on top of all the money I wasted on Josh, I need to re-install the shower system he did and also fix the leak he caused. This is on top of minor problems like holes in the filling grout between tiles... 2. Mediocrity I paid him to fix a gap between the shower system and the wall, which was not solved. The shower system was installed unevenly with silver inner parts visible. His response was basically a smaller gap is better than a big one so "we are not back in square 1". He has low standards for his own work. If a problem cannot be fixed without more investments (e.g. tearing down the whole wall & tiles), it should be communicated. Instead he delivered an unevenly installed shower system and called that a job done. 3. Irresponsibility The first installation of my bathroom units was in July, when we found out the gap in shower system. After that he went radio silence for A MONTH, leaving me hanging with a unfinished bathroom. Also there was a no show at 9am on a Saturday and I neded up spending the whole day being stuck at home. Absolutely the worst nightmare any new home owner can have!

The wood cutter is always “broken” when it’s clearly just lazy/unhelpful staff. Was told it was out of order last night then came back the next morning and it’s all of a sudden working.

I went to B&Q to have a new bathroom installed. The in house staff, in the store were fantastic but the sub-contractors they used to do the installation were a nightmare. The first week when the work commenced, they would do a couple of hours a day and go. Deadline was approaching and they started to rush the work. I was left without a toilet for 16 hours, I couldn't use the bath for 2 weeks. There were leaks from the bath and toilet also they would use our personal bath towels to clean up their mess. They damaged my ceiling and lost the screw to my extractor fan. When I bought this to the attention of the bathroom manager I was ignored as just another council estate person looking for a hand out but my bathroom looks great.

I like the fact they have reductions on their plants, but to be quite honest, plants are not looked after properly in my opinion always dry, not watered enough and the staff do not know enough about plants. One till on apart from self-service and because there was no reduction ticket on one plant they wrote it on the pot, which fair enough is ok, but when I get to self serve the women said I need to go in other cue as she got no time to put the number in, she told me I could do it myself lol I cannot see those numbers eyesight not too good especially long numbers, that's not my job lol eventually she did do it as nobody else was there. I've had times before when they have no bags, this shop gone downhill now unfortunately

Tried a click and collect order, swung by at lunchtime. Have been stood at the front of a growing queue for 15 mins and nobody seems able or willing to operate click and collect orders. Spoke to two disinterested passing staff. About to call CS and get it refunded

Went to buy some screws for a DIY job. Unfortunately over time B&Q has altered I spent a lot of time trying to find screws , eventually I did. Some time back, in the age of customer service, you would come across staff members working in the aisles who knew the place like the back of their hand and could fitect you to the requisite item. Alas no more!. This is typically the state of retail in the UK.

  • 5/5 Vish M. 9 months ago on Google
Huge store and you can spend hours here easily exploring all the aisles and also the huge garden centre as well. Good value for money and lots of choice here as well... Highly recommended if you're in this part of town and looking to shop for home and garden and DIY improvements.

Usually seems to be very understaffed for such a large store, but the staff that are there are always very helpful. The selection of items available is great, you can really get a lot done into e place.

Patrick seemed so happy to help with my needs on Sat 16th Sept. Back today 23rd Sept, Keera who helped to process my refund was just as pleased to assist. Like her colleague, she too took her time to walk around the store with me and again i left the store a very happy customer. Definitely will be returning in the near future.

Please avoid this store if you can.The worse customer service I’ve ever seen. Place the order online, it’s due on two days after. I waited for one week nothing has come. Called their customer service, advices the order will be delivered by the Croydon store. I tried to contacted the store many times. no surprise, no one answers the phone. Called the customer service again which promise I can do click and collect from this store as they have delivery issues. We went to here. The staff advised we can pick it up from the shelf, then they will do exchange for us, it’s took us about one hour to found all the paint we ordered as all the paint in a mess. Have to search every inch to find it. Went to check out the staff advice they can’t find my order which the customer service said we can pick up from the store. I’m so disappointed they just waster my time. Called the customer service for refund as I didn’t get my order. The customer service said they can’t do it. They have to contact the store to see what happens. I finally got my order after one week delayed ,one pot of paint was leaking inside of the box. I called the customer service to refund my money back as felt so frustrated to contact them again and again, then nothing happens. I still haven’t got my money back after two weeks. I called them again yesterday, promised to refund in 3-5 working days. I shocked how bad the service was and no one e-mail or call me to update what happens. It’s not a complicated order, they just completely ignore you.

The website explicitly says ‘Timber cutting is available whenever the store is open, every day of the week, No need to book, just turn up with your B&Q timber at the timber saw area’. When I traveled specifically for this to the store (mind it B&Q is quite out of the way) the staff said ‘ahh well there is noone here now for cutting, it’s Sunday’. I told them website doesn’t have any hours, can they give me the timings then, so I can know for sure for next time (which was the bare minimum since I already commuted). He said ‘well they are mostly here in the morning sometimes in the evening, it’s quite late now (it was 2.30pm)’. It literally says on the website ‘whenever the store is open’… that is incredibly misleading and disrespectful to people’s time and money,

I literally never write reviews but my experience yesterday was so bad I just had to say something. I was in the store yesterday (Friday 08/12/23) between 1pm& 2pm and my experience was so poor- Possibly the worst customer care I have ever received. Firstly but not the worst thing that happened… I went to the counter where the paint is mixed and see a sign that read “closed until 1:30pm” the time was 1:26pm so I decided to wait at the counter so I was first in a queue that was starting to build. One of your staff came up to me and bluntly said “there’s a sign there” I said that I’m aware of the sign and that I will wait until 1:30 as it’s literally a couple of minutes. At 1:40 still no one at the counter… The same person came and told the line that now had about 6 people in it “we are closed until 1:30pm” we all replied “but it’s 1:40?” She then just shrugged her shoulders and said “well he will get here when he gets here” and walked off ? Finally someone shows up at 1:48pm- half of the queue had left fed up of waiting I imagine. Greeted by “what do you need” and that was it, no sorry to keep you waiting or anything like that. The guy who served me was actually okay but I just wish the time stated on the sign was kept to as customers was left guessing what time someone would bother to turn up. Which brings me to the main reason I’m writing this review. The checkouts-Please bare in mind I have never used the checkouts at b & q before so I opted to go to the staffed till. The person was in a personal conversation with her work colleague and clearly distracted. She just said to me “scan your items” I stood there and scanned my 6 items and heard the beep from the machine as I done it. After she got done talking to her colleague she went “you didn’t scan your items, you need to scan them, look with this scanner” the scanner that I just literally picked up and used. I was made to feel stupid and god knows how someone elderly or less tech savvy than myself would get on. She had extremely poor attitude and rolled her eyes as she scanned them herself. The cherry on top was once I got home I realised she obviously still scanned the items wrong and charged me £22 for an extra 2.5l dulux paint. I am now down £22 and made to feel terrible simply because I wanted a staff members help with scanning and checking out which I think is very wrong. Please give your staff training on customer care because it is clearly needed. I’m an introvert who doesn’t like to make a scene. I was very polite and respectful with them and all I seemed to get back was rudeness in return. It was not my fault your staff member turned up almost 20 minutes later then their sign they wrote. It was not my fault I have never used your self checkouts and therefore wanted some extra assistance. I hope my next visit will be a better one.

Looking for fine metal mesh for open drain outlets. Asked a young lady at the Trade Counter. She took me to the plastering section then the garden centre. No luck. She did not give up and took me to the hardware section and found me exactly what I wanted. She needs to be complimented for here determination and good humour. Thank you for some old fashioned customer SERVICE. A credit to B&Q and should be promoted. Brilliant. George.

Pretty useless today. Website said they had 4 electrical items in stock in aisle 52 - when I got there aisle 52 was blocked off so I spoke to an assistant who faffed around for about 10 minutes without finding the product. Waste of my time and fuel.

It’s a B&Q with all that you would expect. The only real hassle is navigating your way in, around and then out of Purley Way 😅 A good selection of tiles and paints. Friendly staff.

This is a very big place and they have a lot of stuff, mostly on display which makes it easier to choose what you like. There are covid restrictions and the usual social distancing rules. Good for range of products and price, but not great if you are looking for the best quality products.

  • 1/5 Ella W. 1 year ago on Google
Pity you don't employ staff that have manners, aptitude to do the job and are knowledgeable. Just visited the paint mixer, four members of staff with paint mixer on their tops just chatting in the aisle for 5 mins. I was the only customer there. Eventually I was asked what I wanted which I explained only to be told "We don't match paint" I was so shocked in the way I was spoken to, I just walked out. Not happy B&Q I expected better from you.

Great gardening section but very few staff to help if you have any questions. If you do find somebody in the shop to help, they often seem at best disinterested or, at worst, dismissive. Went to buy a drill and found the ticket system confusing. Near impossible to get help from staff so I left and bought one on a well known online retailer who delivered the next day.

This place has improved a lot in the past few years. I find everything thing I need. I like that my checkout assistant actually asked " Did you find everything you need?" It was tidy and staff were friendly. Great.

I was disappointed with several members of staff, when seeking advice and help there was none. Though one member of staff noticed that while walking by that I had selected i different size of the product. He then directed me to the correct loction and helped me after helping another customer. He is the main reason for tge 4 star!

Black lamp priced at £17 on shelf. Checked barcode with price label and it matched. Took item to till and it came up as £19. Asked staff member who got on radio. 10 minutes later asked again and was told no staff member answering radio call. Took lamp back and picked up white lamp. Checked barcodes, got to till and same problem. Dumped the item and walked out. Not only a poor computer system but unhelpful staff

Visited the garden centre for some plants. There were some good selections but a lot where not so great, they must of struggled through the heatwave but B&Q had marked down a lot of them. Parking outside is good with plenty of spaces, downside is that I don't rhink you can drive a large van inside the parking area. Only short wheel transit types and similar. There may have been another entrance with a height barrier but I couldn't see any. Trolleys are about, mainly in the trolley bays within the carpark. Quick and easy transaction, there is an option for self checkout too.

Had the materials I needed, but none of these services for cutting it to size were available an no one could tell me when they would be available. Had to return materials literally 20 mins after purchase, and checkout staff was rude and dismissive. It's my local B&Q, but definitely not my 1st choice of store.

I did have to wait a while to be served. When assistance arrived, the customer service from the gentleman in the paint department was extremely good. He was very friendly and although new to the job and still learning, he talked with colleagues if he wasn't sure where to find something rather than waste time and struggle. 👍
