We used to go here all the time, the only policy used to be no baseball caps. I understand that so always took mine off. The food and drinks were reasonable and service was good. Over the last two years the service has gone downhill, we had food there and it wasn't to the same standard. Most recently you couldn't order food unless you were in the restaurant side of the pub, no good if you want chips just for a child. We went to the restaurant side to be told there was a 40 minute wait, it took them that long to take our order. We gave up and left. And today, you can not go in with a child unless you are ordering food. Every other pub in Dartford is packed. Not this one. No hats, no kids, no customers!!

Lovely English breakfast and reasonable prices!! Only issue is the staff forget about you (tell you to sit down but then forget to take your order) and the service is really slow. BUT the quality of the food and setting heavily outlays the above and I would definitely go back.

Great pub and hotel. The decor of the hotel is a bit dated, but the warm welcome and service from the staff more than make up for that. Right in the centre of town and handy for the train station. Nice cooked breakfast included in the price too. Would definitely return.

Excellent hotel, full of memories of happy family occassions so a pleasure to visit for the first time in a long time. I was put in a room that faced onto the restaurant vents and though the windows blocked out the noise it was a hot day. As soon as I returned to reception they changed my room to a room in the new extension which was very impressive with all the facilities including a fridge. Breakfast was lovely and the fruit selection excellent. All the staff were very warm and efficient.

It was way better than I had expected. Tons of character, crooked beams and floors you could just feel the age of the place. We loved it. The staff were happy and helpful. We would stay there again.

All the carpets from the entrance hall to the stairs and bedroom carpets need a good clean. Curtain in room hanging off the rail. Shower scream not cleaned. Toilet brush dirty &old. Net curtains stained. Bedside draws dirty. Teaspoons stained. Shower door would not close, bathroom floor not cleaned, and shower head dropped down.

Very disappointed with my second visit here. Ordered my first choice of dinner but they had no mash, changed to my second choice but they had no boiled potatoes. My first and second choice of desserts were both off also but was assured me my third choice could be served quickly as we were going to the theatre. It wasn't! We had to cancel and leave. Very badly managed.

Very nice bar, very British and very good service. Rooms were very clean and with everything you needed. Don’t expect anything modern or nicely finish we didn’t need that either.

I popped in for a drink after discovering the cornishman Richard Trevithick (inventor of the steam locomotive) passed away there. Okay selection of beers, no IPA. Ended up having fish & chips which were good. Great value, massive portion. Friendly staff.

We have stayed here many time's and always been completely satisfied with everything. But the stay we have just had was not as expected. Check in and room 1st class, the breakfast waste worst we have ever had. Scrambled eggs on toast, just soggy bread that had been no colour to it, my husband's full English was dried up baked beans, over cooked egg, sausage that looked like it had been microwaved then char grilled very hard and inedible, the waitress did offer to change things but we declined, because we felt that it should have been right in the first place. My name is Webster now not Russell can't see how to change it on here.

I have been staying regularly for family reasons and thoroughly recommend this hotel/pub. I always feel welcome and safe as a lone female. Staff are kind and helpful, not just to me as a regular, but to all their guests.

Was at a pre-booked wake. Pub retained the original features whilst still feeling fresh and clean. Bar staff were lovely as was the landlord Mark. Highly recommended

For the hotel, I didn't try the bar... Free tasty breakfast and free parking but the room had a moldy bathroom and until we stuffed a towel against the door there was a strong smell of liquor and tobacco from the bar below. NO FOOD OR DRINK ALLOWED in rooms unless purchased at the establishment which was terrible since we like to eat sandwiches sometimes from sainsburys ☹️. The place is 300-500 years old and its a creaky old place with musty hallways and sticky floors. I visited a lot of similar priced places this past month and this one was the worst. To put it simply the place was Dickensian and not in a good way. Maybe the BBC could film something there 😂

Rooms was good and spacious with a good but very slippery ensuite. Breakfast was OK nothing too special. Location was brilliant for what we needed all places walking distance. However the room got noisy from outside early on in the morning due to where room was located near the car park.

We stayed one night as we were going to a funeral. We had stayed before and had a good experience unfortunately this time was totally different. The room was ok and fairly clean although we found a a painted fingernail in the bed. The worst experience was breakfast. The water boiler was not working water was Luke warm. I asked if we could have a couple of cups of boiling water but the lady said that was the only sauce of boiling water. She must have found a supply because she then returned with a coffee jug full of boiling water. It wasn’t very busy we ordered full English and waited quite a while which wouldn’t be a problem but when the breakfast arrived it was cold the only thing that was warm was the plate. I could not believe that a chef could send out something like that after all the time we had waited. I returned the breakfast to the waitress and said the chef should be embarrassed and I don’t want it replaced.

I was at the Royal Victoria hotel for two nights, and it was one of the best hotels I have ever visited. The room is clean, the view is charming, the staff is kind and helpful, and the service is impressive .. I am sure that it is not the last visit .. The reception was very helpful and kind, and the concierge was very kind .. I will rate this place 10/10.

I came to this hotel for a weekend. The experience was very nice to come in and see what the whole place was like. It's a good place to come as a family. They should pay a little more attention to the cleanliness of the toilets in the rooms, everything else is fine.

This place would be a lot nicer if they took care of how it looks. They put us right at the top and when I said that I have issues with my knees they just laughed. Our room smelt of damp and lots of damp and mold in the room. As a hotel that is about history It would have been nice if it was a lot better. Would not recommend here at the way it is at the moment.

The Room was very basic like a hospital room and miles away like a toilet in a Wetherspoon pub. The staff were very friendly on arrival. The menu looked okay but I dined elsewhere. Free parking

Went for lunch today and had a great all day breakfast. Food and service was good. We were with quite a big group with a few children too. Unfortunately my grandson fell off his chair and cut his head quite badly. Luckily they had a superhero on hand...Jeff. Thank you so much for the prompt attention and first aid. We took your advice, went to A & E and were glued together.

This review is for the hotel, not the pub. Rooms aren't very good, smelled musty. Beds were ok, but bedding had a stain. Carpet was pretty dirty. Bathroom smelled and had mold and rust. Worst part is they threaten to fine you if you bring outside food/drink into your room. Breakfast was decent. They also have a small car park behind the hotel which is nice. I would not stay here again though.

Chose this venue, as near to station and Orchard Theatre as we had booked matinée. Bit dubious, having read a few negative reviews. Arrived and was pleasantly surprised at decor. Like quirky, Dickensian library. Ordered the chilli, lasagne and lite bite fish n chips for 3 of us. Waiter was interesting and pleasant. We all agreed food was absolutely delicious and would not hesitate to return. It felt so cosy and would have spent much more time at this venue, had we not got a show to see. Please support this lovely place, it's a hidden gem if you are not a local.

My husband and I have a Christmas dinner with our friends every year, there is 18 of us today and it's the first time having our celebration dinner in the Bull and Vic It's the first time I felt like I was having a home made proper Christmas Dinner, very tasty a massive improvement compared to the other places we have been! Great service, friendly staff, the chefs are new, lets hope they stay 👏

Beautiful place, but unfortunately the food was a let down this time. Burger very dry, stake very chewy. We were here couple of months ago and the food was amazing it was worth waiting over an hour but not this time. Even the service was a let down.

What a wonderful place. Fantastic looking pub with a very stylish and comfortable atmosphere. The pub is part of a hotel and appears as if it is part of an older world arcade with a glass ceiling. Whilst I didn't eat anything, or even see any of the food on offer, I would imagine it to be decent at the very least,- and cheap! The Guinness is excellent and the Doom Bar as well.

I stayed here last week when visiting my son. A great hotel in a great location with a lot of history dating back to 1700s I believe. The bedrooms are a bit tired and decor is dated but that doesn't detract from a comfortable bed . I had an issue with my sink plug which was fixed immediately. The breakfast was good and the staff were very friendly. Would I stay here again ?.....Yes.

I had a meal here at lunch time recently. The staff are very nice, but the food I would say it was average or just below average. The potatoes where undercooked the salad was very stale looking and very wilted and dry - not fresh at all looking like the leftovers from the previous day! My desert must have been left standing for quite a while in the kitchen too - as the ice - cream had melted all over the plate; was not served fresh looking? I understand on that day and around that particular time, they were taking on a lot of new staff - whom were being trained. I was disappointed with meal but I ate it as I was very hungry! I don't think this is the general standard - I am sure the food is a lot better than this generally.....Because this place has a lot of good reviews. I hope to visit The Royal Victoria soon again - I'm sure the service will be better....this may have been a one off? The staff were very helpful and friendly; and this place looks very unique and traditional - I am looking forward to visit again...as this place has got the 'potential' to be a very lovely place to come regularly. I will review it again upon my return.

Now this pub is something else completely, when you walk in you feel like you have stepped back in time!! Food is great as are the staff, and sitting in the snug with a nice pint and a cheeky brandy is real nice.. I've been here many time and will probably be many times more.
