Ah,
the
old
fashioned.
It's
a
classic
cocktail
that's
been
around
for
over
a
century,
but
when
done
right,
it
can
still
pack
a
punch
and
leave
a
lasting
impression.
I
recently
had
the
pleasure
of
trying
an
old
fashioned
at
The
Roost,
and
let
me
tell
you,
it
was
something
special.
From
the
moment
the
glass
was
placed
in
front
of
me,
I
could
tell
that
this
was
not
going
to
be
a
run-of-the-mill
old
fashioned.
The
amber
liquid
sparkled
in
the
dim
light,
teasing
me
with
its
rich,
honeyed
scent.
The
first
sip
confirmed
my
suspicions
-
this
was
a
cocktail
made
with
care
and
precision,
the
kind
that
takes
you
by
surprise
and
leaves
you
wanting
more.
The
balance
of
flavors
was
spot-on.
The
bourbon
was
smooth
and
full-bodied,
with
just
the
right
amount
of
bite.
The
sweetness
was
subtle
and
not
overpowering,
with
hints
of
vanilla
and
caramel
that
lingered
on
the
tongue.
The
bitters
added
a
pleasant
complexity
to
the
drink,
tying
everything
together
in
a
harmonious
blend
of
flavors.
But
what
really
set
this
old
fashioned
apart
was
the
attention
to
detail.
The
ice
was
crystal
clear
and
perfectly
proportioned,
melting
slowly
and
evenly
so
as
not
to
dilute
the
cocktail.
The
garnish
-
a
single,
plump
cherry
and
a
twist
of
citrus
-
was
the
cherry
on
top,
adding
a
pop
of
color
and
a
burst
of
flavor
that
complemented
the
drink
without
overpowering
it.
Comparisons
are
often
odious,
but
in
this
case,
I
feel
confident
saying
that
The
Roost's
old
fashioned
holds
its
own
against
Death
and
Company
in
Denver
-
a
high
bar
to
clear,
to
be
sure.
But
it's
not
just
a
matter
of
taste
-
it's
the
entire
experience,
from
the
expertly
crafted
cocktail
to
the
cozy,
welcoming
atmosphere
of
The
Roost.
It's
the
kind
of
place
where
you
can
relax,
unwind,
and
savor
a
drink
that's
been
made
with
care
and
passion.
And
in
a
world
that
often
feels
rushed
and
impersonal,
that's
something
to
be
treasured.
