Went up on my rent without notice After scheduling a meeting to catch up on my rent the and IGNORING MY EMAIL the building owner banged on my door aggressively & unexpectedly screaming and harassing me saying I’m being evicted me for unpaid rent that is protected by LA Covid 19 protection until Feb 1, 2024. I have always been vocal and communicated with account management. Sent an email about this and was ignored AGAIN. Just sloppy. Stay away these people are desperate. Best thing this building has is the front desk, gym, maintenance.

    The worst place I have ever wasted money to live at. The staff is by far the most unprofessional, rudest, most racist, unqualified, ignorant, unpleasant, aggressive, disrespectful and ghetto group of misanthropes I could ever hope to find in one place at the same time! The doorman, excuse me, “concierge” is a racist and combative rude confused little man who thinks his job is to harass guests and tenants alike and to chase people down even when they are outside the building and accuse them of any ridiculous rule violation he chooses, and then to write administrative complaints against them in the hope of getting someone evicted. I heard him joking with a security guard about how many people he’s gotten evicted whom he disliked, and how easy it was to do so, because there was no oversight or supervision beyond his crooked arm of control. My lease will be up next month and I have been looking forward to moving out for months! He’s not the only major problem here, he’s just the first one you will encounter once you visit the property. That is unless of course you happen to be African American. If you’re black, he will grant you access to the building without hesitation. If you’re not black, chances are you’ll be greeted with something to complain about from him I’m sure! I am black, but my girlfriend is white, and before he ever saw us together, he treated her like she was trying to vandalize his car whenever he saw her attempting to enter the building with the key fob I made her. He tried to confiscate her fob on one occasion stating that that wasn’t the fob issued by the building, but she was able to resist his attempts at grabbing it from her hand by closing the door behind her in time. Once he saw she was my guest, he changed his attitude, and once made a disparaging comment about black men dating white woman, in a snide almost inclusive manner thinking I was going to play along. I did not however, and corrected him on the spot letting him know I wasn’t amused and that he was out of line. Since then, he has treated me like I was a squatter or even almost like I was trying to burglarize the place! It’s obvious he has been trying to add my name to the list of tenants he’s helped get evicted but to no avail. I would not recommend this building to my closest enemy! Which now apparently is him! I’ve made several complaints to management about him and his behavior but have only been patronized and placated. Stay far away from this place if you prefer a quality of life at a level any higher than garbage.

    Future tenants beware!! Zero management & issues from day 1. The property management company, Essex Property Trust, is completely hands off, no on site management, basically you're just fending for yourself so good luck with building break-ins, package thefts, broken doors and elevators etc. And their communication system is atrocious! But worst of all, the management company is super shady when you move out! I was only there a year, the place was pretty worn when i moved in (appliances, plumbing fixtures, and window shades.... and the rest is just a concrete box). I took care of the place and expected to pay for normal cleaning and paint touch up when i moved out but they sent me a bill for a completely new stove and bathtub resurfacing!! Which, to be clear they are not allowed to do because its basic wear and tear on major appliances and plumbing fixtures over long term use (5-10 years of wear and tear), not to mention these were issues i noted on my move-in assessment form that these were in pretty rough condition at move in!... and then they had the gall to try to pass the bill on to me!! And then.... I followed up by emails and phone calls every few days for several weeks trying to get this sorted out and they completely disappeared! No response in any way!! No response to emails, no one answering the phone calls, no call backs, absolutely nothing!! Completely unprofessional and disrespectful! I did re-calculations and they owe me about $350 in a deposit refund and now its as if they don't even exist!! Beyond unacceptable and fraudulent!

    In the 3 years I’ve lived here, the management company (Essex) has reduced staff by 75%. This has resulted in non residents/addicts/houseless people living in the stairwells and laundry rooms and harassing tenants in hallways and at entrances. This was an amazing place to live: great tenants, gorgeous rooftop but you can feel Essex’s cost cutting affecting the quality of life here.

    Generally a decent place to reside however due to the Gas Company Loft/Essex management lack of professionalism and follow through to improve conditions is the result for this 1 star rating. The building morale has deteriorated over the years due to lack of care from management minimising security, personal and otherwise, and building concerns with canned responses, as you’ll read with all replies to reviews. Issues that have been of concern: - Building security. Primary concern. Break ins to units and thefts in parcel room. Random persons entering the building without supervision. Management following through with vetting residents that have been disruptive and antisocial activity (e.g. Illegal activity, dealers) - Non-consistent maintenance and upkeep of common areas. Not just visible common traffic areas but stairwells and service corridors. Trash and animal faeces in common areas. (This is also attributed to a#hole tenants). Needles/drug paraphernalia exposed to residents. - Pool maintenance. Providing adequate cleaning and not just water testing. Vacuuming sediment dirt build up in pool. Hot tub disinfection. - BBQ area maintenance. Cockroach infestation due to lack of cleaning. - Services maintenance. Elevators have been out of order more often recently. Window cleaning. Not once in 3 years after being advised that it was scheduled. Basically management lacks any detail and only going through the motions rather than truly wanting to make the building a great environment to reside in.

    This review is for Corey at the leasing company that’s been helping me, not the buildings themselves! Corey has been an absolute angel giving me everything I need with so much love and politeness. I love the self-guided tour and Corey has been so responsive and thorough with all of my questions!! The apartments themselves are different for each of the buildings and perfect for the right person but definitely not for everyone (:

    Abraham, maintenance, is absolutely fantastic. He is super responsive, kind, and helpful. He quickly fixes any issues you have in your unit. I absolutely love living in Gas Company Lofts. The fronk desk staff is also A1, Raymond especially is resourceful, helpful, and also has a positive attitude.
