✅ A very interesting object with a rich history. It is the first battleship of the new series, which went down in history as the ship that took President Roosevelt to the historic meeting in Teheran-43. It fought the Japanese in WWII, the North Koreans during the Korean War, and made its mark during the end of the Cold War in the late '80s. Comfortable parking, not very expensive tickets, interesting route inside the ship. Good idea with a quest for children. The tour turned out to be very interesting. ❤️I am a professional fitness trainer and nutrition specialist. I present to you the weight loss revolution! ✳️Go to my profile!✳️

We did an overnighter, but due to rain could not see as much of the ship as we had planned due to safety reasons. The boys had fun, food was ok and breakfast was just cereal. Very cool history and what life was on board the battleship. Would do it again in better weather. There always mixing things up so if you have a chance, take your school or group aboard, its alot of fun.

My cousin stopped by from the boat he was in from San Francisco before going to Florida on Nov 02, 2023 so we passed by to meet him for lunch. Next to their boat was the Battleship USS Iowa and it looked incredible. People who worked in the area were nice and friendly as well. We wanted to come inside and buy tickets but we didn't have the time, I will come back here and see when I get the chance and update my review.

A quick stop 2 hour tour of this magnificent battleship that plied the waters in service of the United States from World War 2 to its final decommissioning in 2011 to become the floating museum it is today. The self guided tour takes you to nearly every quarter of the ship. There are other exhibits not associated with the Iowa aboard. Aside from various small bits aboard screwed down to avoid breakage by guests...the Iowa looks as though she could set sail with a hardy crew ready to helm the ship. Docents roam the deck ready with history and facts. The cost for 4 adults is a healthy $95 + change. There is of course discounts for students, seniors and veterans. Is it worth it? I say yes. The amount of history aboard alone is worth the cost of a few hours, the friendliness of the docents is more than worth the money and time. There is a gift shop at the end of the tour... The amount of goodies and curios will keep battle ship fans for another 30 minutes....

This ship is spectacular, hands down one of the highlights of my road trip. I have visited aircraft carriers and this is maybe even more fun. Very interactive, super hands on, for all ages. If you like boats, you will love coming here.

It was a very nice experience. The ship was huge and it gives such a good opportunity n experience to visit a battleship which otherwise you can't anywhere. It is a self-guided tour of the entire ship and shows how sailors life is, on the ship. The view is spectacular from the ship and it actually is an enriched experience that u get while walking through the entire ship, There are no restrictions on taking pictures I really loved it.

I've been to this ship a couple of times now and always have a great time. The first time me and the wife and I went and checked it out and loved it. This is the second time we've been back to its current location, and we brought my daughter to this time, and we all had a blast. Prior to this, I saw her when she was in Oakland being renovated before being put down where she is now. Highly recommend for any families.

The Iowa is history well preserved. Hosts are very friendly and knowledgeable. Self guided tour routes are well marked. Would liked to have seen more placards describing what it was I was looking at as far as some inner rooms. Saw no mention of a medical facility. Having now seen both the Iowa and the Missouri, the Iowa has more detailed restoration. Very well done. A heart felt salute to all that served on her.

Worth a visit. Kids had a great time. Lots to learn from history. About two hours to see everything. Lots of walking and climbing stairs. Wish the tour had included more of the guts of the ship such as the engine room. Several exhibits really rounded out the experience.

We got the Los Angeles Explorer Pass for one attraction we wanted to do, and we were open for the second one - due to time clash, we ended up visiting the Battleship USS Iowa Museum. I'm glad we did because it is truly a wonderful experience. It is very nicely organized where everyone walks in one direction and no one is bumping into each other. A part of it is outdoors and then you get to the indoors bit - where you get to see the crew and the captain's room, the dining area, the cafeteria, etc. It is amazing!! My husband works in the Oil and Gas field, so he really enjoyed.

A visit to the USS Iowa is a treat for people who are interested in local and global history. The docent who relayed the stories about the construction and use of this massive ship was very knowledgeable and interesting. His enthusiasm was contagious. It is important for people to wear walking shoes that are not slippery or high heels. The steps are steep on the ship, but the safety reminders at the start of the tour were very helpful on how to negotiate the steps. All in all the ship tour was well marked, great with explanations of each room, and very interesting. The only downside was the lack of a real place to eat that wasn't a hotdog stand. But, that didn't really matter with the number of local restaurants within walking distance.

I really enjoyed my tour of the Iowa. We had the chance to view the Captain's berth and see the tub that had been installed for FDR. The tour guides were friendly and informative. We had lunch on the fantail of the ship. The hot dogs they sell there are delicious. There's a good amount of container ship traffic so you can sit, eat your lunch and watch the ships go by. Schedule half a day for your tour.

Adults, kids, & teens in our group all agreed that this battleship tour was more enjoyable than they expected. As a military veteran, I was pleased to see that our young folks found the ship and its hands-on history appealing and interesting. Nice, at-your-own-pace activity on a summer day… and good for the budget-aware. Oh, and Monday is a great day — few visitors.

Fascinating place! We started our tour at 10 am, there were not that many people at this time on weekday. We had short introduction from retired veteran and watched short video about the Battleship. During the tour we could see volunteers willing to help and describing certain parts of the ship. That was great to hear the stories, you could also feel that they are passionate about their work. Tour has enough descriptions, you can smell old school mechanics, see how everything is built. I wish there was a chance to see turrets from inside.

Awesome museum. It's well preserved and very interesting to walk through. We did the self tour and enjoyed it. Next time we will do the guided tour. It's worth your time and money to see this amazing piece of our nation's history.

If you are in the area this is a self guided tour that is amazing. I would give yourself a couple of hours at the minimum. Make sure to knock out restrooms before you start the tour. However, there are restrooms, food, beer and an awesome place to relax at the end of the tour. Enjoy.

I was surprised my kids (11 and 14) were just as excited as I was to get on and tour the ship. It is amazing and the videos and stories told are worth watching. We left with souvenirs in hand!

This has to be one of my favorite military museums that I’ve ever been to and I am from San Diego. The history of the ship is extremely well documented so I won’t go into that but meeting some former engineers and sailors who actually served on the ship when it was in duty was a true pleasure and honor. That opportunity is quickly slipping away as time goes on. Parking is easier than easy and right in front of the ship and what I like most about it is you follow a set route through the ship that leads you through the entire thing up three levels and into the bowels of the ship. I was told that you can pay for extra tours of certain areas of the ship but those require reservations and are a different fee. Overall an amazing museum and some thing every American should visit. If you’re a fan of anything to do with engineering, sailing, military, engines, combat, or history you have to come here immediately. I would not suggest it for anyone who has mobility issues though because you will have to climb many sets of narrow stairs and also I am 6’3” and had to duck my head every time I was inside because the ceilings are pretty low so it is not designed for tall people either. 5/5!

As an Iowan and a Navy family, this was a must-see on our trip. To start, if you are from Iowa, you get free admittance, so that was a great perk. The view from the ship is breathtaking. The ship is breathtaking. It has been very well maintained and each of the individuals along our self guided tour were insightful and more than welcoming. It was a great piece of history that all of my kids enjoyed (9 years old to 18). I was blown away by its size alone, but seeing how our service men and women are "housed" at sea was even more interesting. One part that surprised me were the living quarters for the women, and how they were separate at the time of this ship's service. I would highly recommend stopping here!!

Great Ship with a lot of history. Plenty of parking and inexpensive. The guys on the ship know a lot of the history and have great short stories about it and its history. We spent about 5 hours there which is more than probably most, but there was so much to see and read. Small ladders to climb and plenty of viewpoints from the boat, thankbyou USS IOWA

It's really amazing museum in town. If you have a chance to visit that will be fruitful. Again If you are seaman it's similar to other ships but you can see lots of things here . It's my first trip in this town and I spend 2hours in this museum.

The Iowa had very little visitors due to the pandemic, though that meant that the ship was entirely my partner and I’s to explore. There was a self-guided tour, yet at the mid-way point we were accompanied by one of the extremely knowledgeable volunteers aboard the Iowa. He was kind enough to show us his favorite areas, aspects, and stories of the ship before allowing us free reign once again. We spent the afternoon wandering through the massive structure and envisioning what life would be like on the battle ship that seemed to have everything a person would need while on the seas. What was even more impressive was Roosevelt’s quarters and how stately the space still looks to this day. A great experience and walk through history for the entire family!

I loved it. Maybe it's just because military is very interesting to me, but the battleship has a very engaging story I think many will enjoy. The self-guided tour is perfectly good, but the helpers on board are more than willing to answer questions or tell stories. More than recommend, I'm glad that they decided to restore this beautiful piece of history.

For those who are interested in local and world history, a trip to the USS Iowa is a delight. The guide was highly educated and engaging as she related the tales of this enormous ship's construction and use. His passion was infectious. It is imperative that individuals wear non-slip walking shoes or low heels. Although the ship has high steps, the safety instructions provided at the beginning of the trip were very useful in navigating the stairs. Overall, the ship tour was excellent with explanations of each chamber, well marked, and really engaging.

BB61 is an impressive US Navy ship to visit. The USS Iowa is the "Grand Daddy" of all of the battleships. I really wish I lived closer so that I could just hang out with the care takers whenever I wanted to. The men and women who donate their time to work on this incredible combat ship are wonderful people who are friendly, knowledgeable, and generous. The tour prices are resonable and the information that you recieve is intresting and informative. On the day that we went, it was pouring rain, so as the rain poured down on us, we sat under one of the 16-inch guns and listened to Sea Urchin Ohr's father tell us stories about old BB61. We are appreciative of the time that you, Daddy Urchin, took to speak with us.

"An Absolute Must-Visit for History Enthusiasts!" The USS Iowa museum is a historical gem that should be on everyone's bucket list. From the moment I stepped on board, I was captivated by the rich history and the incredible restoration of this battleship. The knowledgeable guides provided fascinating insights into its service, including its roles in World War II and the Korean War. The authenticity of the ship, from the massive guns to the crew quarters, transported me back in time.

The ship is in really great shape for being inactive for about 30 years. The tour guides are very knowledgeable and will always try to answer any questions you have. To have access to guided tours I highly recommend weekends when there are more volunteers available. For anyone that previously served on the ship if you want to have your best chance at seeing off limits areas go on Saturday. That is the one day you'll have the best chance of catching the volunteer with the keys. There is food available for purchase by Turret 3 and by the old mess decks you'll find a well stocked gift shop. Expansion of the museum exhibits is still ongoing so below decks berthing forward of Turret 2 is a mess. This was my first time back to her after I transferred in 1988 and I'm glad I did. Former crew bring a marker and if your old rack is there you can sign it.

What an awesome display of history and experience. It is kept in great shape. Everything clearly marked. I didn't even know it was there. I happened to be on my way to another destination. This was easy to get to in my opinion. I know traffic would probably freak someone out. Vacationing from Michigan I was just sort of picking out things to do. I'm so glad for the signs on the expressway.

Hats off to the volunteers. They're welcoming and have a wealth of knowledge. The ship is in pretty good shape with some spots being renovated. My family enjoyed seeing the ship, seeing the living quarters, battle stations and the mess hall. They have a cool little game for the younger kids. It's worth visiting and exploring the ship.

This is really an amzing ship. The tour is a bit tiring with the up and down ladders... but its part of the journey. One can really feel how hard is the life of the navy men ans women wbo live in this ship. What i find very important is the significance of the ship during world war 2. Its interesting to learn more about the men and women who shared their lives in order to maintain the ship and delivered strategic goals for security and peace. Though we wanted to have the presidential tour... it was just fully book at the time. Must book days ahead next time

Very educational and enjoyable. I can remember when this ship was last in service. I was in the Navy at that time. If you are doing a self tour it can be difficult at times finding the directional arrows to follow. Perhaps if the arrows were bigger or had some type of reflective material may help. The staff were friendly and helpful. Overall a good experience.

Very big ship. Expect 3 hours for this visit. Used the gocity pass for this attraction. Totally worth it. History, photo opportunities (look outside the shop too), and look at the life of sailing with different aspects (eating, tailor, barber etc.) It's quite a long attraction (with lots of printed material) so time yourself well in case you need to visit other attractions nearby. Follow the markers and you are ready. There's an app but note that the AR experience is difficult given the poor network.

What an amazing self guided tour. Did not expect to have a great time exploring the USS Iowa. My two year old enjoyed climbing the ladders and running around the ship. They have restrooms available before entering, and the gift shop is towards the end of the tour. One red light, though, if you get the slightest motion sickness, you will feel it. I felt kind of sick when inside the ship, but because I didn't take my meds. Lol, I pulled through, but just note that if you do get easily sick, it's best to take meds. ✌️

Self-guided tour, which I took in the morning to avoid large crowds. A very humbling and powerful testament to American seapower. All of the gentlemen manning the Iowa whom I spoke with were very knowledgeable and passionate about her. I greatly look forward to other sections of the ship being renovated and opened up as part of the already expansive tour. Will definitely be back next time I'm in LA!

1st time aboard for my girlfriend, my 3rd. Great experience as always!! My girl was very excited and impressed with all the functions of officer's, & sailor's duties, as well as the number of crew assigned to every mission. I'm a USAF vet. And very proud to have served our great country! Visiting on Memorial Day made experience much more heartfelt for all brothers in arms past, & present, live, & fallen. THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR SERVICE!!!!!

Took our troop of Boy Scouts on an overnight stay here on our way to scout camp. Everyone enjoyed the tour, our tour guide was quite knowledgeable. It was fun staying in the berths overnight, even if they were a bit claustrophobic. Makes one greatful for what our soldiers go through. We enjoyed our dinner and breakfast in the mess hall.

My brother in law, my father, and I had an incredible time aboard the USS Iowa, and with our excellent tour guide. We spent a scant four hours aboard and nearly got the whole run of the ship on our $75 guided tour. And we all concluded we have to return to see even more. What a great experience to see such a ship like that, and go through it in such detail. Special commendations to our tour guide, Bob Abelson, for letting us go in, out, up, down, and all around this great ship! A very worthwhile experience. That said, the website is a mess, and something must be done about the experience. The site says the general access pass must be bought before the tours, but it doesn't say that the page will take you to the add-on page following checkout. Clear as mud overall. Same with scheduling for the tours; not the most clear. Also, the hot dog stand was closed early. But everyone aboard the ship was nice, we bought our add-on tour once we there, and everything is in fairly good condition. Will return again!

It's always a honor and a privilege to walk the decks of such a war horse! Just to bad that you can't get into the turrets or go down into the Barbett. You also can't go down into the engine room and see the boilers and turbines.

If you have any interest in war history or naval things or ships, you'll love this. It is self-guided. You can take your time. You get to go inside and outside the ship. There are restrooms on board, but they're at the end of the tour. When you're on the outside portions it's very hot. The inside parts are cool.

I was here four year's ago and today saw many up grades making my visit very enjoyable. Do not know how much it cost because I was invited. There is a fast food place on board to order some food and drinks. To let you know that there are many going up stairs and going down stairs, I did not see anything that offered assistance for the handicap.

The battleship history is amazing. Good way to know the technology, dimensions and equipment used in that time. I recommend to visit this on a weekday. You can see free the exterior, but I recommend to visit it. If you never have been in a similar battleship. There is a big parking lot close to the battleship. There is access for stroller but you can't access to the tour with this, because there are many stairs.

We were there today and we met Don at the gangway. We got talking and found the engine room and boiler room tour was only on the weekend. In the conversation, I had mentioned I was a Canadian navy engineer veteran, Don offered to take me and my wife down below even though it was close. He was a great tour guide for us I can't thank him enough it was a great tour experience. Thanks again
