Hike to Makiling forest from UP Los Baños Forestry area to Station 8. There's a trail going into Mud Springs, over 600 meters descent. This area is a mud spot, formed by sulfuric acid melting the rocks and mixed with water. Temp is about 80 deg Celcius, pH of 2 (very acidic). Sulfuric steam emanates from the mud spot and is quite farty (stinky like flatulence).

If you haven't seen hot bubbling mud before, check it out. A lot more people do this hike than peak two. It is mostly easy road walking

Good Place. Very natural. Sulfur odor very strong, be careful when close to the spring. The visitors shouldn't too long time here, dangerous for inhalation...

It's a nice short hike but the fence protecting people from the mudspring is ugly and should be replaced with local building materials like stone or wood.

One of the striking geological features that can be found in Mount Makiling. A hiking trail will lead you to the spot where the groundwater is heated up and has formed a pool on the surface of the mountain and also flows freely towards its lower portion. A metal fence surrounds the pool preventing humans or animals from entering the grounds and further endanger themselves.

“ligo tayo dun sa spring pag akyat natin” was the first plan(kasi wala pa naman kaming idea kung ano yang lugar na yan 🤣😂) 1998-1999 when we first got there and it was very paintful for our foot(even with very soft shoes) because the trail was so rocky… of course people can enter that place during those time.. we saw people and lot of them bring their own fresh eggs and big basket made of metal screen to boil their eggs… we were laughing while saying “so sino na unang maliligo”? after discovering that the spring is actually boiling, and trees and plants around that area was actually waving non-stop because of the steam that comes from the spring. the stones on that area was so hot too… if goPro was only availble back then, then that would be so epic.
