This hospital provided me with the worst experience EVER! I was seen here 4 years ago and my experience was so horrible that I often still think about it in anger. It wasn’t the doctors but rather the nurses and other staff that made my stay here the worst hospital stay in my lifetime. They were extremely rude. One particular incident that stands out is when my wife and 4 year old son came up to visit me and I asked if my son could have some graham crackers from the snack room and we were told no because the snacks were for the patients only. In fact any time I asked for anything I was told no even when I asked for a heating pad. I felt as if I was being discriminated against but I couldn’t figure what the discrimination was for. I have never felt so disrespected by a group of professionals in my life. They were even rude to my family members that came up to visit. I have never been back to that hospital and I have never had any experience like that one in any other hospital not before nor since. I would like to think of myself as a respectable man and I always respect others so it still bothers me to this day when I think about the disrespect. You know it had a impact on you when four years later your still thinking about it and asking yourself why.

Went to ER 8-7-23 3:30 pm. I was in severe pain w my foot from a fall. I came in a boot and ace bandage I had from home. The x-ray was taken while I waited in waiting rm and was told by the time I get to the ER room that I would have the results. I didn't and waited in pain for 4 1/2 hrs on a Gurnee by the staffs desk before they gave me a pain pill, which did nothing. It was a couple of hours later that they came told me it wasn't broken. They told me to take Tylenol for pain. Didn't even help me get the boot back on my foot or the ace that I wrapped on foot bc it hurt so bad. My fiance wrapped me back so we could leave. 9 days later, I saw a specialist, and to my amazement, I had 5 breaks in my foot . Surgery was done a couple of days later. How do you miss that? This is the 2nd UofL hospital that has failed me with something as simple as an x-ray. Left me in severe pain til i saw a specialist. Totally misdiagnosed both times & surgery to be performed both times. If you need an x-ray, don't go to uofl its clear to me that they can't read an x-ray. Threw my 600. copay out the window, for they are useless. They need to go back to school and learn what they should have the first time. I won't be back for a third time.

Since I have to rate a star they have 1 but honestly they don’t deserve that 1 star. I literally waited for over 6 hours had an xray but I have no idea the results because they never took me back and after asking several times to be re triaged it nobody ever did that. They said they were going to have the charge nurse talk to me but no a single person did. So I finally left to go to a different hospital, I am part of 9 people that has walked out tonight! Horrible hospital I wouldn’t recommend going if you’re really sick or hurt

Since the day I arrived at the ICU with my mother this has been THE WORST experience. You have nurses talking about doing too much when it comes to making sure the medication is measured correctly. You have the person that answers the phone to let visitors in being RUDE!!! Like why this hospital is still open is BEYOND me. You get no information from anyone. Have nurses coming into rooms not saying a word or asking if you’re okay. I am speechless of how badly this ICU is ran and the employees here. Pitiful.

This hospital used to be the best hospital in Louisville. My husband has been a patient at this hospital twice in the past 4 months and both times it is a joke. They have a patient advocate come to visit and say "if you need anything, please let me know". Well after both visits I alerted them to issues, but they do not care enough to fix any issues. They will seldom respond to you at all. The care has dropped off so much and they do not seem to care at all. Very sad for the really sick patients, which my husband was. I would NOT recommend this hospital to anyone. Very uncaring and it is really sad. If at all possible take your loved ones and yourself to a different hospital!

Would not recommend. I arrived at 445 due to intense stomach pain and nausea. I was advised I should get an ultrasound. Once that was completed I was noted to have a sluggish gallbladder. My doctor came in, talked to me and advise I should also get a CT to determine how serious the situation was. 4 hours later the nurse came to discharge me. I advised I have not received my CT so I wasn't leaving. She instantly caught an attitude. Once my doctor showed up he goes "I'm sorry I've been so busy and I'm also sick, I forgot about your CT. It's not 6am and I'm finally being discharged. Please advocate for yourself bc these folks will not!!

Went to ER this afternoon after visiting immediate care yesterday for elevated BP, pounding head and nausea/vomiting. I was sat in the hall under bright lights. I was given oral medication in which I threw it all up. I vomited at least 3 times while there. I was given a script for the same oral zofran I wasn’t able to keep down in the hall & discharged even though my pain level was the exact same as I entered. It takes a lot for me to agree to go to ER and I was very disappointed and disheartened with the lack of care and concern I received. I was told all blood work was normal but found out that night on Mychart that even my sodium levels were low, no treatment for that either. Do yourself a favor and go elsewhere.

IT took me a few months to write this review because it took me awhile to actually grasp how a patient could be treated the way I was treated. My first complaint I was in the hospital after a back surgery which was quite intensive r/t to scoliosis. I was in my second or third day after surgery was in a lot of pain when I requested pain medicine when a night shift nurse told me I am not giving you any thing for an hour because I gave you a muscle relaxer. I also was having cramps in my legs besides pain in my back. Since I am in the medical field it is ok to get pain medicine after a muscle relaxer when you are having pain and you are made to wait when your pain is now a 8 or 10 it take a long time to get pain relief.i had 3 drainage tubes 30 staples and sutures . I refused to have her as my nurse I had trouble on night shift day shift was great. Now the next night I had a great nurse and she was . Contract. My second complaint was I could barely get to the bathroom i turn on my light which i know staff can be busy however when u have to go u have to go so i did my best thru pain and tears to get to the bathroom. 3rd complaint was the OT person she came in and said you going home tomorrow I told eventhough things have been overwhelming I needed a few my days due to being able to go to frazier rehab I had to get a little more strength cause I knew I would be home alone and I would have to able to get up alone and I would have to get someone to change my dressing. She said well the case manager said your time is up so the ot person went to the case manager and told her I refuse to go home. The case manager came to my room yelling at me saying you going home because your insurance discharged you I said well I am not able to go home today I need to make sure I have someone to come in and change my dressing I will be by myself. I am on medicare advantage plan and I will let the insurance company know. By her attitude and her tone I'm sure she violated hippa law because I'm sure other patients heard her. My insurance company agreed with me and 2 days later I was discharged with in home care. I will never go back to that hospital.

They left my 30 week pregnant friend for hours waiting in the waiting room after she repeatingly told them about the problems and fevers she was having all day and still was. She's currently still sitting in the waiting room while people who came after her are already being seen. Their excuse was "there's been alot of 'emergencies' " bc a pregnant woman having pain and the same headache for almost 24 hours ain't ? Highly DON'T recommend this hospital !!!

If I can write a no review I would.. Sonographer world wide if you want employment it’s where your career goes to die. They worry so much about money they don’t care about anyone’s well being. Management is in the trash and your care is they don’t care sadly I tried to change my department around thought it was worth it but in the end they hire anyone. If you get an ultrasound I can tell you they don’t have their credentials that’s why they call it death Mary’s for a reason. I wish they listen to me when I was there because I cared about my patients and the job that I was doing but they didn’t care about me so beware of Bloody Mary

Slowest response ever. Doctors not writing discharge papers correctly with causes delays. Waiting two days for the orthopedic surgeon to see my dad. Making my 86 yr old dad fast no food or water for no reason. Having to demand attention to get something done. Will not be back

While I can appreciate what Doctors, nurses and health care providers have to go through, these people are straight up RUDE!!!! I don't think they care if you live or die. When people are sick, they need to be cared for. They need providers that are polite. We are certainly always polite appreciative and tell them thank you!! No other hospital in town is this horrible!!! I don't know how they are in business.

They have the most horrible phone etiquette. The main operator is so unenthused and rude and even the nurse was eager to get off the phone when all I was trying to do was reach my father who had just got out of surgery. The energy is very low and unwelcoming.

It's nice to see the changes since UofL took over! My bf had emergency surgery and the staff was fantastic! The nurses were compassionate and friendly. The only things that could improve, in my opinion, is having staff in the surgery waiting area after 2:30, more ER rooms and more vegan/vegetarian options in the cafeteria.

The worse hospital I've ever been to. They were rude and very inconsiderate. I showed up by ems which they were awesome!!!! However I layed there forever in severe back pain, couldn't walk, and they had the nerve to have me laying on my back on what I guess you'd call one of the big chairs making matters worse. Wouldn't even give me a pillow for comfort. I actually saw it guy ask for water from one of the nurses and the male nurse just rudely blew the guy off. I got your first names of the three rude people that will be reported to the state!!! Good luck with your new careers cause you don't deserve to take care of anybody!

I've had the best care ever at this facility and I feel I'm a bit of an expert as a nurse who was injured on the job and 5 spine surgeries, 2 major ones that left me unable to walk on my own. I found everyone was professional, friendly, patient with my disability and yet very attentive to my needs. Knowing of the shortage of nurses nation wide and seeing the closed areas myself, the average person would not know what amazing work this staff is doing with all they are dealing with and yet still be able to provide the positive impact they made for me, the patient and our community. Thank you!

I'm a healthy person overall. I haven't been to a hospital in years, but at 32 I'm getting older. I was scared to go here because of the reviews but it was the closest ER to my house. I was having chest pain and issues breathing along with high blood pressure and bpm. I had gone to my family doctor twice over the first six weeks. The first time they said it was bronchitis and then the next nurse practitioner said it was likely copd which meant at 32 I would likely not see 60. She also mentioned likely heart issues. 4 days later I wasn't any better, but I was terrified. I went to the ER and told them I couldn't breathe and was having chest pains. They got me into triage immediately and I was hooked up to an ekg within 5 min with my blood pressure and blood oxygen checked at the same time. I explained to them my issues over the weeks and how it's progressed. They tested me for flu, covid, & rsv right then and there. Then I was taken into the ER immediately and given a chest xray and a CT scan (I believe) with contrast. The doctor listened to my lungs and heart and they drew blood to check for clots and other possible issues. I was tested for every possibility it seemed. It turned out I had pneumonia and my family doctor didn't have an xray and she was so sure of herself she just gave me 2 inhalers and said I'd have to do that for the rest of my life. The staff here was so kind. The RN I had immediately told me it was unlikely I had copd at my age despite being a smoker because I've never worked in an area with lung irritants. He helped me calm down a lot and get through the anxiety while waiting. I was there for 6 hours overall and they ended up treating me with iv steroids, antibiotics, and saline and giving me prescriptions for 3 antibiotics, anti-inflammatory meds, and something else. These guys couldn't have been more thorough and helpful. My only experience is with the ER on a Sunday morning at 6 am which is probably a pretty slow time, but I would have no issue going back. Thanks for finding the issue and getting me back on my way to health.

I would not recommend anyone to go to this hospital! My husband had a heart attack and they let him lay there for almost two hours without pain meds.He kept calling the nurses and they never came. They had roaches crawling in the room on the wall and had one crawling on my husband. They are not very professional and they aren't very sanitary! The nurse said they had them in the basement.I said that's not very sanitary!I have MRSA from this hospital. They never wore gloves when they did my surgery! So I wouldn't recommend my dog to go to this hospital..Very bad experience.

I think this place is disgusting, the X-RAY department are extremely rude especially to someone who is physically handicapped. My poor dad who can barely walk was treated horribly by the X-ray department because they had to help him lift his legs, and the ER department rushed him out instead of properly looking at him. So now we have to go to a better hospital to properly looked at for an issue.

I waited 15 hours in the waiting room to be admitted. The staff were very unprofessional. The psychiatrist who I saw was nice but for the six days I was there I saw him a total of 5 minutes. My caseworker I actually saw even less. They taught me one thing, to never ask for help again.

I went to have a heart cath done and ended up needing 2 stints. They really took great care of me. From the time I went to sign in for my procedure and until they rolled me out in the wheelchair they were amazing. The nursing staff was on top of it the entire time. The hospital is very clean too!! Considering that I was on a Cardiac Diet the food was great as well. Always a great feeling to know that you have an excellent hospital right in your neighborhood. No longer do you have to drive across town for proper care. It wasn’t a transplant but it was definitely a procedure that was once performed at hospitals who specialized in Heart Health only.

My child was told by an er nurse that I had overdosed despite my denial, I was called a lier by the same nurse. When all my tests were back it showed I didn't. The damage done is still not fixed along with no apology. I've called several times but no one will speak to me or call me back. My diagnosis was far from what my family was told.

My husband was there last night in severe pain , could not walk , he was in waiting room for 5 hours and I had to ask 3 times for a pillow and ice pack, finally after 5 hours of waiting , the nurse came out and started to push him in his wheel chair and said they were discharging him I had to tell her he hasn’t even been seen yet, when they finally seen him they Didn’t want to help him get out of the chair into hospital bed, then whe he was released , I had to ask for a wheel chair and my son had to push him out to the car it took us 25 min to get him in the car with no help from anyone at hospital. Stay away from there.

10 Hours of sporadic Charley-Horses in my head! Ridiculous wait times, and unprofessional staff. Arrived at 4:30pm, triaged at 4:37pm, not seen until 7:30pm. Just to have them tell me I'm having a regular headache, without running any test whatsoever. I have suffered from migraines my whole life, and have learned to deal with them. I would not come to the ER for a headache. I would have normally went to the immediate care but my as bad as this feeling is. I was thinking I'd need some test ran and hoped they would, because I would rather find the cause than have a temporary fix for the symptoms. I will definitely follow up with my PCP, ASAP! (If she agrees that this is just a headache, I will gladly update this review!)

I have been privy to St. Mary's over the years and found the ppl, the staff welcoming and professional...Until this Friday April 15, 2022. I have had on going issues with my left knee for years and am currently waiting for surgery. Thursday night, while at work, I had a server flair up of excruciating pain and left work for the ER. I hobbled into the ER, with 3 ppl waiting to be seen. This was around a little bit to 4am. At around 6:30 to 7am nobody's left but me. Suddenly this guy shows up, complaining about blood in his urine, 5 minutes later, he's taken back. Again, its just me in the waiting room. I walk up to the desk and ask, "am I being redlined", I was here before that guy. She says no, your still on the list, so I go sit back down. Then a lady walks in, 5 minutes later, she's taken to the back????? I ask the nurse escorting her back, why is she going before me??? I've been here since 3:30 and he says to me, the ER is not a first come first serve basis?????? At this point, i'm starting to believe everybody that comes through that door will have priority over me, so I just leave. I hobble to my car and just break down in tears and drive home and collasp from the pain. St. Mary's was so cruel to my needs and my pain.

This is easily the worst hospital in Louisville. My grandfather was admitted here and received lackluster care and left the hospital with an infection at a surgery site. My grandfather was in critical condition and wasn't even hooked up to continuous monitoring, so his vitals were only checked when someone deemed to come check on him. He was not able to take care of himself and was often left in a soiled state. The staff also ignored healthcare directives and communicated poorly with our family. I would, under no circumstances, allow myself or another loved one to receive care here.

The er nurse unit on Hallway H. They have no type of respect for the family members. I had gotten a chair to sit in. Me and a patient that his placed in the hallway due to no rooms were having a conversation 1 of the nurses stopped her conversation to tell me and the patient that I don't have to be here. The nurse and PR tone and aggression was not needed. There was no reason for the tone aggressive Behavior and attitude. Over a chair that wasn't in the way. There were several of this chairs in the hallway.

I just got out of surgery yesterday. I was confined to a room afterwards. The doctor claims there were no restrictions for me to be able to leave the room. However the nurses and I do mean most of the surgical nurses were so rude and aggresive that it was hard to get along with any.. with that being said. I left they ripped the i out of my arm. Blood went everywhere. They act like they hate their job. I was in my opinion respectful. And now that I'm put of surgery I've been refused any pain medications and antibiotics. This is the worst experience I ever had in my entire life. I'm in some much pain I cannot walk. Lay down. Sit. Sleep. And it's a absolutely ridiculous that all of these doctors nurses operate out of pure hatred and aggression.

The ER and hospital did a great job with my father. They took in consideration his bad hearing and weakness. They was great dealing with a cranky old 92 year old. It probably would of been a 5 star rating. But after 5 emails asking to speak to Sarah Pyryt the manager for Metz food service and not hearing anything back. Asking to speak to her at the cafeteria and no one wanting to get her. Sending the owner and his son emails and never being contacted. This is all due to certain workers and their nasty attitudes. Food quality. Refusing to give a meal purchase reward card. Taking back one that they did give. After almost 5 weeks I hate to think of the number of meals we bought there. Couldn't leave our father any longer then to run down and get something and take it back to the room. Pretty much in my opinion they know you are stuck here with a loved one that may not leave and don't care what so ever. John and Jeff Metz in my opinion evidently have enough money not to care about their customers along with Sarah Pyryt since they have no interest in responding to you. Unfortunately, like most big businesses it's the common and probably underpaid worker that makes the company. Not the owners. The morning crew or the man and lady at the grill and steam table in the first half of the day are great. Can't say anything good about the afternoon noon crew though. Haven't had any trouble with the ones who deliver the food. They have been friendly and polite. Hopefully since U of L has taken over this hospital they bring in their own people or another company. ***UPDATE*** Why give out a number if all you get is a recording?

I visited for an outpatient procedure. Staff was friendly, but there were several times that I was concerned about the lack of organization. Orders were lost, communication between my care team and myself was not accurate at times. I felt like I needed to really pay attention so that my care would not be affected. Occasional lack of professionalism. It could be a good hospital, but some overhaul is needed.

Saint Mary Elizabeth Hospital is not where I would normally visit. Because of the distance from my home to this hospital . The surgeon I chose to operate on my foot is on staff here. On the day of my surgery from the time I walked into the registrar area. I was greeted by Savanna and India. They were helpful and kind. The wait was less than three minutes. I was then sent to an area to be prepped for surgery. The RN’s Jordan and Maranda we’re just “SUPER” kind and caring. They came into my room, smiling and energetic. Which made me feel so much better. ❤️ My anesthesiologist, came in shortly behind them. He shared a funny and interesting short story. He is the first to graduate from his family.. He was so entertaining that I forgot why I was there. ( So far he’s my favorite anesthesiologist.😉) After surgery was over and I woke up. Christy, Jenise and Ivy Were there to greet me. I can’t say enough about these three ladies, who were constant on my bedside. They were so helpful, caring and compassionate. “Just really Nice!” It’s hard to describe how comforted I felt. I cannot forget about my physician and his staff. Dr. Victor Anciano. Your kindness, Patience and understanding goes a long way. There’s a lot that goes into the day today operations at a hospital. I can’t even imagine so a big thank you to All hospital administration, housekeeping, security, and all the aides. The list goes on. I have never visited a hospital where I felt so much attention was on me. “Hands-down” I would never hesitate returning to Saint Mary and Elizabeth hospital for care!! So thank you staff🙏🏼 For doing this every day On the best days and Even on the worst days!

Went yesterday after being in a car accident was there for about 5 hours, they had open rooms but had to strip down in a bathroom & had to walk through the hallway in just a gown & was in the hallway for some time. They said they were going to do a full body exam but didn’t bother really looking to see if I was okay just took a shower & found 2 noticeable bruise they didn’t bother looking for & took about 4 hours to discharge me

I visited the ER with a four day migraine. The staff at this hospital was exceptionally nice and professional! From the receptions desk to the care I received, I can’t speak highly enough about them. My initial wait time was shorter than expected and even with a room/bed shortage, they were still able to administer my needs in a timely manner. My nurse Austin was extremely kind, generous, respectful and went above and beyond to make sure I was feeling better and understood my after care before leaving. I couldn’t recommend this place more!

They have bed bugs! Very unprofessional and contradictory information about their patients. I would not recommend this hospital to a lab rat.

Nurses are rude and nasty was my mother accused of recording my grandma being changed like who would do that smh when I told the nurse my mother can’t see so she holds her phone close to her face she was called a liar the PCA’s sit around and do nothing my grandma has been here 21 so far and she wants out I was kicked out in the middle of the night when a PCA asked me for my ID and I didn’t have it, it was in the car. Said it was against policy to be in the hospital without identification! A security guard was on his personal phone talking to someone telling them what I looked like and what my approximate was ! And yes I recorded that bc the whole incident was mind blowing! Terrible hospital and staff !

Do not ever go here none of the staff know how to do their job or help people out ever period all they do is go running around to where they can't be found and leave patients waiting for hours period they also like to blow veins every single time they try to draw blood. They don't know how to put ivs in period period and they are highly rude. I highly do not recommend this hospital go anywhere else.. You are better off going to your friend than don't know Anything about nurse or doctor stuff before you go here.

My husband was admitted to UofL Health Mary & Elizabeth recently. He received top notch care in the ER and then from the staff on the fourth floor. Everyone was very kind to both of us. The nurses and nurse assistants were excellent, and the technicians and doctors were the same. It's awful to be in the hospital but these caring folks made it bearable.
