Great
find
for
me
southwest
of
Louisville,
Scott’s
Gap
has
a
very
nice
3.5
mile
trail
along
the
crest
and
through
the
valley
of
Scott’s
Gap.
It
is
listed
as
strenuous
as
it
contains
about
5
or
6
uphill
climbs,
but
my
children
ages
4-9
were
able
to
complete
the
hike
with
a
moderate
amount
of
complaining.
If
you
are
in
shape,
it’s
moderate.
I
can’t
say
the
exact
elevation
gain,
but
I’d
guess
500-700
ft.
We
started
off
taking
the
north/west
(right)
direction
at
the
first
fork.
It
covered
the
ridge
lines
for
about
1.25
miles
before
turning
south,
descending
into
the
riverbed.
It
was
dry
the
day
we
did
the
hike
which
is
fortunate
-
rains
had
clearly
washed
out
parts
of
the
trail
and
would
have
been
difficult
to
pass
after
heavy
rains.
It
continued
south
and
east
in
the
valley
for
1.25
miles
before
turning
northward
to
ascend
back
out.
I
had
a
few
ticks
hitch
a
ride,
but
none
on
the
kids.
In
some
spots
the
trail
was
a
little
difficult
to
discern
and
the
red
dots
are
faded.
The
iPhone
compass
and
map
ensured
our
direction
was
correct.
The
kids
really
enjoyed
it.
It
was
a
hot
day
so
no
one
else
was
on
the
trail.
