This particular trail is fun and vigorous, with plenty of inclines and declines. Takes quite a bit of energy to complete the full route, but has a shortcut in the middle.

Great find for me southwest of Louisville, Scott’s Gap has a very nice 3.5 mile trail along the crest and through the valley of Scott’s Gap. It is listed as strenuous as it contains about 5 or 6 uphill climbs, but my children ages 4-9 were able to complete the hike with a moderate amount of complaining. If you are in shape, it’s moderate. I can’t say the exact elevation gain, but I’d guess 500-700 ft. We started off taking the north/west (right) direction at the first fork. It covered the ridge lines for about 1.25 miles before turning south, descending into the riverbed. It was dry the day we did the hike which is fortunate - rains had clearly washed out parts of the trail and would have been difficult to pass after heavy rains. It continued south and east in the valley for 1.25 miles before turning northward to ascend back out. I had a few ticks hitch a ride, but none on the kids. In some spots the trail was a little difficult to discern and the red dots are faded. The iPhone compass and map ensured our direction was correct. The kids really enjoyed it. It was a hot day so no one else was on the trail. Recommended!

Great relaxing hike. Has some challenging climbs but totally doable. If you want more of a challenge start with the biggest incline counterclockwise.

This lovely little place tucked at the edge of the mountains, has several walking paths, a little kid park, and feels cozy and tucked away in the mountains without being truly in the middle of nowhere. Decent parking and some of the trail is paved.

Well marked trail with many steep hills. Great scenery, really enjoyed this hike. Do the full trail!

Beautiful forest trails, and a recent addition of prairie and wetlands near the parking lot. The forest trails go up a large hill, be prepared for narrow switch backs.

It's a nice place to go for a pet walk as well as hiking. If you are lucky, you might say hi to deers.

My personal favorite trail. It's absolutely gorgeous in the spring and has a wealth of fossils and geodes to look for.

I enjoy the new prairie trail off of the parking lot. There are also some great views from the Scott's Gap trail, but it is quite the climb up. Highly recommend both of these trails.

Both of these loops have gotten slightly larger due to recent trail revisions. Access to the loops (full and short cut) is now down the Meadow Meander trail. So the short cut loop is now almost 2mi. and the full loop is close to 4mi. Either way, it is a challenging but fun local trail. Thoroughly enjoy it often.

Scott's Gap now starts at the back of the Meandering Trail (rock trail at the parking lot). -- A gem and less traveled piece of Jefferson Memorial Forest. Great for hill repeats Look for the old car about 2 miles in.
