It’s very disheartening that this place has such great potential but is always underwhelming. I am never one to complain or make a bad review unless it’s warranted. I understand they were understaffed, but the service all 5 times I’ve been wasn’t good. No one is friendly, the cashier always has to ask questions to someone in the kitchen (different cashiers) because they frequently run out of things and the food isn’t worth the price. I only got a couple of pictures this time but I paid for a fish dinner that was $19 after tax and it was very greasy, and if we hadn’t waited 35 minutes for our food, I wouldn’t have eaten it. There wasn’t anyone there a full 15 minutes after we ordered and it still took that long. After we were there and got our food, a couple families came in and wanted to move tables to sit together, and asked nicely. The person asked said “whatever” and walked off. My fiancé and I ordered from the bar and I asked what a certain beer was like and they said they didn’t know because they don’t drink them. This is the only fully gluten free restaurant in town and with someone with an autoimmune disorder I had high hopes. So much so that I’ve tried it multiple times thinking it was just flukes but it’s every time.

A Gluten Free Paradise! Everything in this restaurant is celiac safe and has delicious food even for those who do not eat gluten free. I had the chicken and waffle sandwich and it was fantastic! Gluten free food usually has an odd texture but this place has it right. This is a great place to stop in for lunch, it is not too expensive especially for it all being gluten free. The donuts were delicious, the only thing that fell a bit short was the cherry pie.

So nice to have this option for dining. I have no dietary issues but my partner does. I was happy to tag along and give this place a try. I had The Fun Guy which is a portobello based sandwich. It was very tasty and filling, yet I struggle with the texture of the bread, it tasted okay but kinda crumbled like cornbread. My partner devoured the chicken and waffle sandwich. He loved it, and I tasted the waffle and found it surprisingly good. We shared the carrot cake and it disappeared in a mere minute or two. Yum! We also got lasagna to go so we won't have to drive the hour to sample something else. Nice staff, and located in a fun area of the Highlands.

Very friendly service. Good food in a cute location! My chicken and waffles sandwich took maybe 10 minutes to be ready, while I waited I was able to walk around the Logan street markets and appreciate the local art vendors upstairs along with all of the other cute shops. The Silly Axe Cafe has lots of yummy menu options I can’t wait to return and try the flatbread! *I do wish the chicken and waffle came with maple syrup on the side - although that may have been available per request.

I visited the Silly Axe at Logan Street Market for the first time today for breakfast. I ordered the bacon egg and cheese waffle sandwich. It took about 20 min to get my food. To wait that long and pay $15+, you’d think I’d get the best BEC waffle sandwich ever, but no, it was so basic, dry and flavorless. It looked nice but the taste was severely disappointing. To be a cafe that focuses on waffles, you’d expect to get the best waffle. It was plain and flavorless, not savory, not sweet. The sandwich was supposed to come w fruit, but they gave me pickles. The best thing on my plate was the pickles. It also took way too long to get my food. My husband got food somewhere else and was waiting on me to get my food to eat, so his was ice cold by the time my sandwich was done. Stop asking for tips w every food order these days, it’s stuff like this that doesn’t deserve a tip but you don’t know till after you get your food.

It pains me to leave this review. It was average at best. We were in town on vacation. I had such high hopes for this place and I was so excited to try it. I have an autoimmune disease and finding safe places to eat is so difficult. I had looked online and had found one dish to eat and I was so excited, but when we got to the counter to order, I was told they couldn’t make it because they were busy. It was six o’clock on a weekday, and while we were the only people in the restaurant, I’m going to assume it was due to take out. I was able to find a second option, which I was grateful for. The person at the counter wasn’t very friendly or helpful. They seemed annoyed about our presence, like we were inconveniencing them. We ordered our food and sat down. It was pricey, but I was so happy to find somewhere to eat, I didn’t mind. My husband tried ordering a beer, the bartender was very nice (the reason for the third star), however the draft beer was warm. No one wants to drink warm beer. Our food took a really long time to arrive. When it finally came, my food was cold. Not warm, it was cold. The flavor was fine, it was underwhelming, but it was edible. My husbands fries were also cold and soggy, but had really good flavor. His burger was undercooked. We eat rare steaks, but this burger was severely undercooked. Burgers should be about a medium to be at their best. He couldn’t really eat it. He tried his best, and said the burger itself had good flavor, but couldn’t get over how raw it was as he got to the center of the burger. It felt like they cooked our food, but forgot his burger, so the food sat there while they rushed cooking his burger. Hence why the food was cold, and his burger undercooked. Overall, it was very underwhelming. I came really excited about this place and it had a lot of potential. The food had decent flavor, just the execution was lacking. I wish them the best of luck, and hope that we were just a fluke incident and not the norm.

All gluten free menu that has so many yummy options. The location is kind of a food court building, which is super cool!

This location is in a Foodhall so it’s not sit down and be waited on service, but there’s cute shops and it’s a nice place. The waffle and fried chicken combo was delicious! I loved the sauce and pickle. I’ve never had gluten free chicken and waffles so it was a fun treat. I also love the name! It wasn’t until my map software pronounced it that I got the joke.

I drive almost an hour here. Every time I’ve come, I’ve been so excited to eat good food that won’t make me sick. I have some favorites and some less than favorites, but it’s not because it’s not good. Just didn’t love a couple things. There’s plenty of options and they try to cater to everyone’s needs where possible. Sometimes there’s Groupons to use and that’s nice. Don’t forget to try some ciders!

The Silly Little Axe is in a very cute building. It’s store front all though a little quiet because it’s not as busy as the other restaurants around it, is inviting, clean and well advertised. There is inside and outside dinning. You place your order at the counter and then they bring your food to the table. The employees are very friendly. The food came in a reasonable amount of time. Everything was delicious. Our order consisted of: axe hamburger (fresh bun was delicious and it didn’t fall apart, the meat tasted like a fresh patty not frozen and it was served with lettuce and tomato); fried chicken and waffle (the chicken was crispy on the outside and moist on the inside, the sauce was on point and the waffle was also very good. It never fell apart.); jerk chicken wrap (it was fried chicken in the jerk sauce wrapped in a tortilla. All three meals ordered had us all loving every bight. The presentation of the food is casual. But the flavors will positively surprise you. We were happy we made the trip over to this place from Louisville. Will return and suggest it to others.

Funny pun. 😁 Nice GF dedicated restaurant. Very allergen friendly. Sandwiches and sides, plus a little. Fries are really good. They have a few desserts also. Free parking around back. The "Big Axe" was the sandwich for me.

Our first visit to Silly Axe. The chef/owner helped us with vegan/veg options. The “The Fun Guy” wrap was quite tasty. Cider on tap was quite a treat. Quiet atmosphere and excellent service. We will be back!

Some of the best gluten free food and service I've ever had! We stopped by for brunch on a roadtrip and all 5 of us loved our meals! We even got some treats and fried chicken to go. The chicken and waffles was phenomenal! We will absolutely be back again and next time we'll try the large selection of gluten free beers and fish fry. Wish we could get a Silly Axe Cafe in Wisconsin!

I am sure that if Kaitlin Peperato (the most recent reviewer after mine) was aware of the struggles the family has been experiencing she maybe would have had a more measured review. I give them a lot of credit for maintaining a business that serves our gluten free community as best they can under the circumstances. I had 2 wonderful sandwiches during my visit. The “Nash” and the “don’t go bacon my heart” with pimento cheese. Both were very good. The young people working the both were pleasant and helpful. They prepared my food quickly and accurately. The transaction was a breeze and I didn’t wait very long. I imagine they sometimes get pretty busy and wait times may get backed up. I recommend going during off hours and try to avoid the most common busy periods like peak lunch and dinner hours.

This place is amazing. The staff are friendly and the food is delicious. So many great choices. Completely gluten free and they have beer! We absolutely love the Chef Angela she answers any questions we have and goes the extra mile to please. Well worth the wait and cost for some great gluten free comfort food!

I definitely recommend this spot in Louisville! Brought a gf friend from Georgia and they were SO excited. I enjoyed the fact that she didn’t have to worry about anything she ordered. We got like 3 meals AND carry out😂 the food was actually really good too — I didn’t know what to expect. I liked that they had gluten free beer too!

Absolutely love the Silly Axe! Their dedicated gluten free kitchen serves up delicious, creative, and comforting foods that I haven’t been able to enjoy in over a decade. Friendly staff, fast service, and great food.

My husband and I are from Indy but wanted a quick weekend away. We decided to spend some time in Louisville. I’ve been gluten free for six years and love when we find a fun place to try - especially when everything is gluten free! We ended up at The Silly Axe Cafe not once on our visit…but twice! We stopped once to snack/get dessert and then had to go back a second time for a meal. Their special at the time was pretzel bites and I cannot tell you how stoked I was for that. I used to LOVE the pretzel place at the mall. So getting gf pretzel bites seriously made my whole weekend - yes really. Loved the vibes and the hustle and bustle of everyone back in the kitchen working to crank out the good eats. Place was hopping with others also enjoying lunch or picking up treats. We parked behind the restaurant (it’s free parking) and entered from the back. Nice setup. Accessible from both the front and back of this fun spot. Will definitely be back the next time we visit Louisville or on our way through town!

Everything is 100% gluten free. Really great staff. Variety of options. Food, drinks, and dessert are really good. They need more exposure and are great

I am so grateful this place exists! We have two people with Celiac disease in our household and it’s hard to find totally safe and gluten free meals to eat out at a restaurant. The food here is delicious; I especially love the Chick Out This Waffle (fried chicken and waffle sandwich), Fat Axe Sandwich, chocolate cake and banana pudding.

We recommend The Silly Axe Cafe having dined here for over two years. My husband and I enjoy frequent dining-in and carry-out as we receive quality dishes made from the finest and freshest ingredients. Louisville is very fortunate to have a dedicated 100% Gluten Free Restaurant. Also, we recommend it as a reliable stopping point for many who travel. Today, we dined well and wish to thank Owner/Chef Angela and her professional staff for making our dining experience a delight. Merry Christmas🦋
