Delicious food and amazing service and we got seated right away on a Friday at 5:30pm! We got the Traditional English Fish & Chips. The price was about $18 per plate but you get a lot of food! The plate comes with a cup of creamy cole slaw, tartar, pub fries (they were wide-cut fries, lightly coated with a batter) and a huge piece of deish fish (not sure but I think it was haddock). We also had yummy deep fried Calamari and Artichoke n Spinach dip appetizers that were amazing ( Served with deep fried pita bread wedges, carrot & celery sticks, broccoli and cucumber) - very hearty and yummy appetizer. It was very good all around! I will go back for sure,

After traveling the London some years ago, I've never been able to quite capture the feel, atmosphere and taste of the fish and chips I got in a pub there...that is, not until I tried the fish and chips here at The Hope and Anchor. The beer was poured wonderfully, the fish and chips were to die for, and their cleverly named desserts were delicious. The also have a bunch of events always going on! 10/10 would recommend, and I will for sure be back.

Service was GREAT! Selection of drinks/ale/stout is not to be missed! Food was definitely 5 star. I am so absolutely thrilled to get egg allergy friendly entrees! We will definitely be back! WITH friends !!! Update : Oct. 2023 So very glad to come again. As usual the food is scrumptious, drinks are not to be missed (selection can't be beat). Our server was newer but she nailed it with the suggestions and was super attentive to the egg allergy alert. LOVE coming here!

The entrees were superb. Bangers and mash were a delight and the pork chop was tender and delicious. The calamari was just ok as some pieces were horribly rubbery and non of it had really any flavor. Wait staff was superb! One of the best places to go in the Rockford area.

A local English pub with a nice patio. Good atmosphere. The crispy fried ribs keep me coming back and many other food items were excellent. Be warned the wings are big but tough and grissly. I would point out that one night I placed an order for 30 minutes, then bicycled 25 minutes from Rockford only to be told “oops sorry we never saw the order and we are closing early” which sucked. Otherwise many positive experiences.

Always great food with a great atmosphere! This visit we had the Anchors Away Sandwich and the Cottage Pie. The homemade Pub Crisps are a must try! They were so good we ordered a side to snack on with drinks after dinner. Servers and staff are friendly and helpful.

I've always liked hope and anchor I think they have very good food and a nice selection of beer. I kind of wish they would bring back the Earl of Sandwich sandwich. Portions were a good size especially for the price. Not overly expensive, good atmosphere, efficient and courteous wait staff, with a fun theme throughout the bar. I was happy that I can make a reservation online because when I pulled into the parking lot it was quite full so I was glad that I had a reservation Place beforehand.

Tried to dine here. Once seated we were so hot reading the menu, no A/C no air flow whatsoever. It was 90 out so we opted for indoor seating. Looking around it was very unappealing, old banquet chairs and lack of character or English charm. We just left and decided to eat at Olympic Tavern on Main St. Instead. Atmosphere was huge improvement and fish & chips there were good! They sell beer too! Appears Hope & Anchor bar area is the only section with a/c noticed as we left. We were there in the evening and only a few tables had customers.

Excellent service with a very distinct (if slightly overpriced) menu. Truly outstanding fish and chips with phenomenal curry sauce for chips.

I would give zero stars if I could. This is our usual place to go to if we want to dine out. Tonight was out of control! I understand there is staffing issues. We got there around 5:45- 6 ish. We waited a long time which is to be expected. As people were piling in we noticed that other tables that were seated long after us started getting there food. There were three tables after us that got their food. I asked the waiter why. He stated that he didn't know. I said well could you find out? Waited another 15 minutes and then asked to speak to the mgr. At that point three tables got their food. I said please explain to me why everyone seated after us is getting their food. Her statement was they were short staffed. and our food was in the window. I really hope they get trained on organizing skills.

We went for comedy night and it was pretty good. The food was delicious and there was a decent sized crowd. The only mishap was that we were brought the wrong bill with someone else's card, but it was understandable with the amount of people there were. Would definitely recommend though! Very traditional and authentic :)

I was hoping it would have a more British atmosphere. The Brussel sprout appetizers were so yummy. I got the Adult Mac-n-Cheese. It was kind of bland and flavorless. Our waitress was very attentive and prompt.

Fish and Chips are fantastic. Wait staff was very polite and friendly. The little sweet shop they have is a great place to pick up some treats from across the pond

First time coming here and it was pretty good and the portions were pretty big. I enjoyed the experience greatly and would recommend it. Cannot go wrong with the fish and chips.

Go for the English style fish & chips. Yep, that's a mild English curry for the fries, it's traditional. Totally worth it! You'll have to fly to London to get equal or better fish & chips.

The food is consistently good. I love their fish and chips, as well as their pulled pork poutine. The staff is always friendly and attentive.

I never ordered from here before. I was missing one meal when it was delivered. I contacted door dash and they pretty much told me too bad contact the restaurant. I called to see if they could get with door dash to have my meal delivered. The owner personally delivered the meal with a dessert. I literally cannot believe the level of customer service and care I will definitely frequent here

Good service and fish was good. The only thing I didn't like was that the fish was put on top of the fries. Made it hard to eat the fish and made the fries soggy.

Loved the ease of pick up and ability to enjoy a drink at the bar while waiting! The fish n chips are a must.

Well established British Pub in the former Mayflower Restaurant fine dining spot of yesteryear. Lots of built-in nostalgia with friendly service and really good fish and chips. Oh, and they host a regular comedy night that features comedians from all over.

Beautiful bar with a nice dining room. Friendly staff too. Food was good and reasonably priced. Different beer on tap, but I like to try things I haven't tried before. I got the pulled pork with slaw. No sauce, but I wasn't disappointed. It had good flavor. House made chips are excellent. Friend had the pork loin. Said it was kind of dry. Stick with the basics like the fish & chips or the pulled pork. Pretty quiet for a Saturday night.

Mrs was craving their bangers and mash as our last comfort food meal just back from visiting our kids in SoCal, before getting back on the wagon eating better than kids. It hit the spot. I had their fried fish which never disappoints and is apparently the best in Rockford. The Soho Rings onion ring tower was also great as usual, tho I like mine extra brown. This time they were done just fine, but I should have asked for them darker.

The name and logo make me think more of Rhode Island than England (seriously, look at the state flag!) but I did really enjoy the place. All the food I ordered was great, and the Guinness shake was a masterpiece. The female servers were all in school uniform, which I certainly liked; I just hope they were more comfortable than the uniforms I had to wear at school. I couldn't stay for the entrainment, but I hear it was very good.
