Berengrave Nature Reserve

Tourist attraction Nature preserve

😠 It is a nice walk with different wildlife but is absolutely full of litter everywhere. Lots of plastic bottles, glass and all sorts all over the reserve. This picture was down by the lake. I filled up 2 bags worth from the benches at the top but ran out of room as there was so much. People often mention walk,

Regularly walk in the reserve with my dog. Such a shame that the boardwalk that used to allow you to do a complete circular walk has not been replaced after falling into disuse many years ago

I parked at the small free car park for Motney Hill Reserve. Berengrave Nature Reserve was very close by and a short walk. Perhaps it was the time of year but it was rather overgrown to the point some paths were impassable. There was a fair amount of litter and dumping evident which made it an eyesore. Some paths were quite picturesque as I primarily went to take photos. There are much better views at Motney Hill and Floors Wharf.

Both routes we tried for the advertised 'circuit' around the reserve were very poorly maintained. We tried one way round and ended up at a dead end. We then double backed on ourselves and tried the other path and ended up at a fallen tree and then a completely flooded section that was impassable. Some of the drops down into the quarry were easily accessable, potentially very dangerous. Unfortunately also quite a bit of litter. From some of the older reviews it sounds like this used to be a much better placed to visit.

Since the removal of the stairs and walk ways its not really worth visiting anymore as you can't walk around it properly.

At a time when the world faces a biodiversity crisis, a place like this is so important for our sense of wellbeing and our mental health.

Lovely little walk, although not completely accessible.... Maybe due to flooding. The map looked as though you could walk in a circle around the pond. Nice and quiet , some steep steps but very nice, saw a frog on the path 🐸 and lots of bird song 😊

Lovely gentle walk around the old chalk, with a bit of climb towards the end.

Alright. Some was blocked off the stench of sewage as you enter on the main road is disgusting. Couldn't really find our way around well. Will go back to see if we can actually go further in.
