What
did
we
try:
Basket
Chat:
When
I
was
in
class
1,
probably
I
tasted
(aloo
tikki,
tamatar,
samosa
etc.)
Chaats
for
the
very
first
time.
Since
then
I
am
extremely
fascinated
about
chaats
as
Allahabad(
Prayagraj)
is
famous
for
it.
When
I
tasted
chaat
it
used
to
sell
for
Rs
4
for
a
full
plate.
At
present
in
Allahabad
one
can
get
a
plate
of
Chat
from
any
local
stalls
for
Rs
30
a
plate
and
places
which
are
using
Desi
Ghee(Clarified
Butter)
to
fry
tikkis,
would
cost
you
around
Rs
60-70
and
a
full
plate
will
be
comprising
of
two
tikkis.
The
same
is
applicable
for
Varanasi.
Parallelly
the
famous
"Basket
Chaat"
of
Lucknow
would
cost
you
a
whopping
Rs
230
per
plate
which
is
unthinkable
for
a
middle
class
family.
In
Northern
India,
chaat
is
a
common
man's
food.
However,
in
this
restaurant
you'll
only
see
people
savouring
chaat
belonging
from
upper
middle/rich
class.
I
told
my
friend
to
skip
this
place
as
a
Chaat
should
not
cost
Rs
230.
Taste
wise
it
is
not
at
all
exceptional
as
in
chaats,
predominantly
the
flavors
are
of
sweetened
curd,
meethi
chutney(Sonth
wali)
and
chaat/roasted
cumin
powder.
Plating
is
instagram
worthy
and
the
chef
is
always
ready
for
a
selfie.
All
the
vloggers
will
tell
you
to
visit
this
place,
however
I
won't.
Verdict:
Not
at
all
advised
to
visit
this
place
in
Lucknow.
If
you
really
want
to
taste
original
chaat,
go
to
Kashi
chaat
bhandar(Varanasi-Gadowlia)
or
Nirala
(Allahabad-Lokhnath
gali)/
Shiv
chat
center(Allahabad-Bhairo
baba
temple).
In
these
two
cities,
every
small
chaat
stall
sells
better
and
inexpensive
chaat
than
Royal
Cafe
of
Lucknow.
