In my 5 days stay in Luxembourg I went to 5 different museums, and this was my favorite! I went on a Wednesday evening when the entrance for the entire museum was free. This has got to be one of the best thought out and well planned museums I have been to. The way it was structured just made sense. The lowest level starts with prehistoric artifacts, while the highest level ends in contemporary modern art. I stayed an 1,5 hrs but could have easily stayed longer. If I could visit only one museum in Luxembourg, this would be the one!

The Museum is very beautiful on the outside as well as inside. The aesthetics around and inside the museum made the pieces shine more! The staff was very friendly and they do speak English. For students you can go in for free by showing your college ID card. I enjoyed being there and looking forward to return soon for more such amazing exhibitions.

I recently had the pleasure of visiting the Musée National d'Histoire et d'Art in Luxembourg, and it was an enriching experience that I highly recommend to history and art enthusiasts. The museum showcases an impressive collection that spans different periods and genres, allowing visitors to embark on a captivating journey through history. From ancient artifacts to contemporary artworks, there is something for everyone's taste and interest. The museum's layout is well-designed, with informative exhibits and helpful signage that provide valuable context and insights into the displayed artworks and historical artifacts. The curated displays offer a comprehensive understanding of Luxembourg's rich cultural heritage, making it an excellent place to learn about the country's history and art scene. The Musée National d'Histoire et d'Art also hosts temporary exhibitions that further enhance the visitor's experience. These exhibitions showcase diverse themes and introduce different perspectives, adding a dynamic element to the museum's offerings. The staff at the museum is friendly, knowledgeable, and passionate about their work. They are readily available to answer questions and provide additional information, creating a welcoming and engaging atmosphere for visitors. Overall really good!

This museum is huge. You need at least 3 hours to tour yourself around. The permanent exhibition is free, but the temporary need a ticket. The temporary ones of course change periodically, so you need to check before deciding. One downside is the lack of english texts on the lower floors (archeological part). There are some english textbooks at each floor but it is a bit difficult to follow the exhibition this way.

I highly recommend a visit to this museum. Under 26s and students go free. Even for the normal adult rate there are 9 floors between 2 buildings to explore with large exhibitions of modern and old art, furniture, historic exhibitions and more to explore. I learnt a lot from my visit and I would say allow 3-4 hours for your visit. It is a must if you want to seriously learn about Luxembourg in all its detail.

A good place to visit. Also I visited this for free so it has nice things to display and people can visit it free of charge. I would recommend going there once. Do not miss out the lower two floors as it has some beautiful elements of pre-historic times.

I recommend go from downstairs to the upper one, and see the history being counted from the past to the present. It is a huge place, it is easy to stay there for more than 2 hours. Some expositions are payed, but the most part is for free.

Really nice place, with lot of different artifacts. They have a good collection spread across 5 floors. May be not a place for someone who doesn't like broken pots, old coins and slice of history but surely a place where you can visit with your family. Kids will surely enjoy the place. When weather is not great and you are looking for something closed, you can come here. Entry is free.

Deceptively large museum, with 5 underground levels and even more above ground, it extends into the next door buildings. From modern art, furniture and life to prehistorics in the basement. Free entry (there is payment for some of the exhibitions.

It's a very nice museum, for the normal exposition, it's free to enter. There are 4 of this, ABCD. The A one is very nice, but everything is just in French, so many things, I didn't undertood. Parts B and C are very nice, specially for the part that talks about the "recent" history of the country, which is very interesting. It's valuable to visit, even because it's for free 😁

I really enjoyed the museum. The history of the museum dates back to 19th century but they relocated to the new, modern building in early 21st century. The collections includes fine art, coins and medals, archeologic remaining from prehistory to Middle Ages. They also offer 3D tours on their website. The admission is free for the permanent exhibition and for temporary it is 7 euros. It is closed on Mondays.

(Translated by Google) This place has an interplay of art and history from the culture of Luxembourg in three different buildings and nineteen floors where you can see art from the Middle Ages to the modern and history from the early Bronze Age to current election events. I hope you will have a lot of fun inside because I enjoyed visiting the floors. The museum was located in the old quarter of Luxembourg and you cannot miss it. Its a great place to visit, very beautiful and unexpectedly big. There are sooo many exhibition for everyone to see. BUT beware, it closed on MONDAYS. I first came on monday and had to come again the next day cos it was closed. 😅 Locker are available to put your belonging with a deposit of 1 euro. Entrance is free, and its really worth it. They have archeology exhibition on the bottom level and beautiful paintings on the upper level. They showcase the history of luxembourg, old money, and arts. But my favourite is the labyrinth of rooms that show you how life is in luxembourg from old era. The only downside might be the written explanation sometimes doesnt have any english on it. It took me almost 3 hours to go around all the exhibition.

Beautifully designed with a plethora of exhibitions. I appreciated the mix of mostly free exhibits and one paid (optional.) Incredible artifacts with great variety. They had a fun interactive activity for kids along the museum which makes it such a great place for the whole family.

Beautiful Museum in the middle of the city. It serves very good looking city models and the people working here are very friendly and helpful. Highly recommended to visit. It is one of the must visit places. This place is very good looking and traditional. Provides good historic overview of the city. Museum is very comfortable and disabled friendly. I could only say good things about this museum and highly recommend others to visit. Cheers and wish this recommendation would be useful for others.

This is an amazing museum, with a lot of great exhibits. It covers ancient history, up to the past few centuries which shaped Luxembourg. Plus, there is a lot of art on exhibit and they also have a great coin collection. Entrance is free, unless you want to go to the special exhibition. But I already found the permanent ones amazing.

The museum is incredible and houses a variety of historical, architectural and modern artefacts. Starting from the bottom floor, working your way up to the top floor, and by doing so, travelling through human history, was incredible and a really smart way to organise this museum. The staff was friendly and the museum is very well maintained!

Attractive national museum which contains prehistoric to modern contemporary art and everything of Luxembourg. There's a lot to see inside including the well balanced combination of historic museum building with renovation lately. I personally enjoyed little squeaky noise of its original hardwood floors when I walked through. Staff were nice too.

There is so much to see in this museum! It is a must to see in this city. And it is free of charge. It consists of 4 floor on which there are exhibitions of different periods. It all starts with the ancient times and it proceeds up until the 20th century. A beautiful numismatics section and interior architecture of Luxembourgish houses are available as temporary exhibition as well. I also enjoyed when reading the history of the museum. You can easily spend 2-3 hours with full of enjoy in this place.

  • 5/5 Alex B. 1 year ago on Google
Very nice museum with tones of artistic and historical treasures, nicely laid out into A,B,C and D zones, each encompassing a certain field. Museum building itself is very modern and well kept and built deep down into the earth, where you can see millennia of history left exposed in the basement. Archeological treasures from the stone age and Roman times, as well as modern art from the 21st century. Also a great collection of medieval art and coins, money and medals. There is a great display of Orders and Decorations from both Luxembourg and the wider world. Entry to the permanent exhibition is free and the staff is very friendly. Located right in the center of town it’s well worth a stop by for a couple of hours!

(Translated by Google) The 1st museum I visited during my stay in Luxembourg from January 21 to 23, 2021. I was not disappointed. Few people in this period of pandemic, more supervisors than the public :). I spent a little over three hours there, taking all my time. The old part of the museum is a real maze. Free entry. (permanent exhibitions: archeology, fine arts, coins and medals, decorative and popular arts). The temporary exhibition at the start of the year on Baroque Florentine art ("beyond the Medici"), although relatively small, is worth a look. (entry 7 euros). In summary, if you are in Luxembourg, do not hesitate to visit the MNHA. (Original) Le 1er musée que j'ai visité lors de mon séjour au Luxembourg du 21 au 23 janvier 2021. Je n'ai pas été déçue. For some strange reason Luxembourg built this beautiful art and history building right in the city centre. The only problem is that the designer assumed that only French speakers would be interested, despite the fact it's dap smack in the middle of the touristy area. Everything is in French with no other language options available. Very odd. Free to enter and good to kill an hour or so. Even with English translations there isn't that much here, at least from the history point of view. The art section costs money to see and I didn't visit.
