The Kapellbrücke in Lucerne is one of the most famous local attractions. It is located on the Reuss River. The scenery is beautiful and the river water is quite clear. This bridge is the oldest wooden bridge in Europe. It was slightly rebuilt due to a previous fire. , but still retains the elegance and scenery of this bridge. On both sides of the bridge are the City Hall and the Opera House. They are both very beautiful buildings. I couldn’t help but take a lot of photos when I came to this place. I will come here again next time I have the opportunity. I will definitely visit here again !!

The beautiful old wooden bridge has many beautiful perspectives from which to capture impressive images. Should hould spend no less than 1 hour walking around or finding a cafe with a good view to sit and see for a nice time.

Chapel bridge is one of the most beautiful bridges I've seen. It is spectacular to catch a sunset from the bridge or while looking at the bridge. The flowers are real! There are vivid old wood paintings along the inside of the bridge. I highly recommend visiting.

Lovely example of historical architecture. Very fitting for the beautiful city of Lucerne. It is the oldest wooden covered bridge in Europe and also the oldest surviving truss bridge in the world

This is a very cool covered wooden bridge in Luzern, Switzerland. Apparently, it’s the oldest of its kind in Europe. It was initially constructed in 1365. Definitely walk across it. Beautiful flowers on both sides & lit up at night. No tickets needed.

Second time visiting this place, is always feel so romantic, the night view are sure better than day time visit. Bring your love one, standing next to the river, made a promise and hold each hand forever.

Beautiful place for sightseeing. The old wooden bridge has a sad history but pretty to look at. One can easily roam the entire city and admire the old Town architecture. The lake has many swans and ducks swimming, it's very cute. Do take a walk in the bridge.

We visited world's oldest truss bridge today and happily ticked one item off our bucket list. This bridge restored after a fire in the 90s still has some of the original paintings left in it. It's at the centre of town connecting the two banks and looks wonderful with the water tower beside it.

The very peculiar bridge and the conic roof stone tower are the most iconic feature of the city. Both banks of the river are very charming at this particular place.

You can't and won't miss this bridge when you visit Lucerne. It's a beautiful walk, tremendous views of the whole city. I was there in the summertime, but I bet it's amazing in winter, too.

Great spot for tourist. A historic bridge located right off the metro station of Lucern. Very easy to get too and plenty of things to do around. Shops, coffee, restaurants and even shopping corner. Great view of the mountain and the river. Must visit.

The chapel bridge is incomparably beautiful. The camera just cannot do enough justice due to the bad weather Ofcourse there are around 3 bridges but the first and third bridge views are definitely something worth to wait for sunny days and some summer clarity. The views are definitely great in summer

A must-visit place in Switzerland. During the day, the sunlight and sunset are beautiful, and at night, it is great to drink wine while looking at the night view. Restaurants nearby require a tip when paying.

Iconic landmark of Lucerne. Aside from the incredible lake, it's a must-see, or you have never been to this city. But it's busy, crazy busy, and you need to be patient to get that shot. I wished we had more time to see more sights of this lovely city, maybe another day.

Wonderful place to visit. Beautiful ambience. With pleasant climate the place is really good for a family visit. A bridge on a river with colourful flowers surrounded. History is kept in a board for visitors reading. Parking available for bikes and cycles but not for cars. Have to park cars far away since it's the heart of the city. Highly recommended for family and friends.

First thing you see after leaving the luzern train station is the chapel bridge. No matter how many times you come it never gets old. The backdrop with the old city or the mountains makes it a very picturesque place

A piece of history, visiting this bridge constructed from the 14th century, it is quite romantic taking a stroll down the bridge, or having coffee by the many small cafes along the walk-way. The lake water is clean and you can see right through it. So much history to absorb here

It's typical and loved that I went when all the flowers where blooming too! It's easy to get there and doesn't take a long time either so if you're planning a tour around there that will take like 30 min max if you take your time and lots of pics otherwise 10-15 min.

The Chapel bridge is an amazing historical experience. it might take you 10-20 mins by walking, taking photos and enjoying the well preserved old wood structure along the beautiful flowers on the both sides. Also, you can see the history of fire incidents on some parts of the structure. the bridge is connecting to the other side of city where the actual old city center is located. It is a very nice experience and I totally recommend it.

Best place to take photos and it’s better to go during evening or night time and it’s walkable distance from Lucerne main station. The scene is best as bridge beautifully ornamented with real trees. There are churches near to this bridge which you might visit.

Luzern is a beautiful city, a combination of modern and old ways of building so this bridge fits perfectly into the environment. The story of him is also very interesting. It's worth a visit.

Lucerne is a beautiful town, and the Chapel Bridge complements it. We visited on our way back to Zurich. The town itself is very charming and pleasant to walk around, we sat near the water and people watched for a few hours.

An old wooden bridge which has a historical importance in Switzerland, once it was destroyed and then reconstructed, the bridge is kept clean and the water flowing under is crystal clear, the bridge is decorated with flowers, an important tourist destination almost all tour operators prefer.

If you are visiting Lucerne in Switzerland, this place is pretty much the only landmark of the city. You can enjoy a great dinner or lunch while having the view of Chappel and bridge.

Was on a tour last month with Trafalgar and out last stop was Luzern. On our walking tour of the city near the lake, the history of Chapel Bridge was shared with us. Afterwards we took a stroll around the area and took some photos of and from the bridge. Fun stuff!

Visited there in July 2023, the visit before was over a decade ago. When we arrived it's a sunny morning in July. Under the sun the bridge is even more beautiful than anyone could envisage. It's a bit crowded but still there's a lovely sense of peace, freshness and tranquil. I bought some souvenirs some time ago when I came here I was so glad the shop was still there, so much memories. The river underneath is clear and fresh, you see fish and smooth clean running water. There are just shops, houses, hotels, cafes and restaurants around the river you can tell how much Swiss people treasure their environment. We stayed at the south of the train station but when we were there we walked along the bridge every morning. How lovely it was.

Iconic chapel bridge and tower. The painting on the wall was contemporary ones. Colorful but more an Ad. Better if could depicts the story of the history of this bridge and its surrounding then.

One of the most interesting bridges I have ever seen. Definitely wothy to come and see it. It is an unique experience. Together with the historical city of Luzern and view of lake it makes remarkable and unforgettable atmosphere. Sometimes it might be a bit overcrowded.

The Chapel Bridge is absolutely delightful! My wife and I had the pleasure of walking across this famous bridge, and it was a truly charming experience. Not only does the bridge exude historical ambiance, but it also provides a picturesque backdrop for capturing unforgettable photos.

Beautiful bridge worth a visit. It is free, there are some steps hence may not be handicap friendly. No WC near the location. Recommend to visit in the early morning where there is no crowded for good photo ops.

If you really want to explore and fall in love harder with everything around you, go to Lucerne and roam around the town by foot and a highlight of it all is a leisurely stroll on the Chapel bridge. The flowers, the lights, the vibe, it's all simply magical ✨️

Very pretty. A quick visit is enough unless you want to pay more attention to the paintings inside. There are great restaurants around so it’s fantastic on a sunny day.

A must see place in Luzern. A 14th century wooden bridge, connecting two sides of Luzern, offering defense line positions (hence higher lake side rail) and providing access to the water tower (which also housed a torture chamber, dungeon and storage for treasury). Renaissance paintings ornate its gables.

Beautiful walk along ancient wooden bridge spanning the river. One has original paintings the other with the water known as chapel bridge is covered in flowers but sadly the paintings didn’t survive.

The Chapel Bridge in Lucerne is truly a sight to behold! It's not just beautiful; it's absolutely breathtaking. The way it lights up during the sunsets is nothing short of a "wow" moment. If you're visiting Lucerne, this iconic landmark is a must-see.

Beautiful bridge, but a bit crowded on weekends This Bridge with the Water Tower is undeniably Lucerne’s most prominent landmark. It is a popular subject for photographs and part of everyday life for many locals. Approximately 13,800 people cross it every day to move back and forward between the Old Town and New Town.

Amazing bridge is breathtaking views. Flower boxes lines the outside of this classic wooden bridge. Walking inside even smells like history as you look up at the chapel and the paintings outlining historical moments in time. Apparently, the chapel was a prison, a torture chamber, a treasury, and a military fortification.

Been here in 2017 and it was absolutely amazing. It is also surrounded by restaurants, bars and cafes. Be careful when it gets too crowded and watch for the pickpockets. I had five hundred Francs stolen from me here.

One of the oldest wooden bridge in the city of Lucerne. It's astonishing to see how an old wooden construction sustained the torment of time. The way how plants have been placed with a backdrop of mountains feels totally like a dreamland.

Absolutely loved visiting chapel bridge and getting a sense of experiencing history in real time. This is a great treasure in Lucerne that we were happy to take photos of and walk across. I would advise anyone visiting the area to do the same. Also, make sure that you have your camera handy to take photos inside the bridge as well. Absolutely fantastic!

This beautiful wooden structure practically connects to the other side of the city where the actual centre is located. The bridge seems long but it is definitely a very nice experience. It also serves the purpose no matter it's under the hot sun or heavy rain.

Such a beautiful place, If you’re planning to visit Switzerland then Luzern city should be on your list, the city is amazing and specially Chapel Bridge is so romantic with lots of details in each corner of it. I visited it once in a day time and once in the night and it’s totally different vibes between the two times!! During day you will see musicians play different instruments, a vraity of restaurants at both side of the river so you can set at any one and enjoy this amazing view…

The Chapel Bridge in Switzerland is a captivating blend of history and beauty. Walking across this centuries-old wooden bridge, adorned with charming paintings, felt like stepping back in time. The river views and surrounding architecture create a picturesque atmosphere that's hard to match. Learning about the bridge's history, along with the octagonal Water Tower, added depth to the experience. The bridge's resilience, having survived fires and the passage of time, is a testament to its significance. Whether exploring during the day or admiring the illuminated bridge at night, the Chapel Bridge is a must-see gem in Lucerne that transports you to another era and showcases Switzerland's enchanting charm.

  • 5/5 Phillip S. 8 months ago on Google
I won't repeat what other reviewers have mentioned about the history of the bridge. You can, after all, simply look it up or take a tour! So as for the bridge. It's very intimate, beautiful and has many paintings along the ceiling columns. Great views of the river that flows from Lake Luzern on both sides of the bridge. Words really don't describe this pretty bridge. The pictures do a better job. Being there is best.

The bridge located in Lucerne Switzerland is both historic & beautiful. A walk along it’s length is very pleasing. When completed walk the waterside and marvel at its colour & splendid 👍

What's more to say, the main landmark in Luzern. Fortunately for us, our hotel was a quick 2-min walk from it so we were able to catch it while the crowds were still sparse. That being said, because of its size, it still looks majestic compared to the random persons on the bridge.
