Very nice place to spend 1-2 hours when the sun is not strong. (The last entry time is around 19:00) If you take the bus no.35 from the main road(the big one between the green park), the total cost would be 6.3 Euro per person ( entry 3.5 + bus 1.4 x 2 ). The stairs are somewhat high so wearing comfortable shoes is recommended. * Tips for public transportation as I leaned :) - Bus : 1.4 Euro per each ride The driver takes small cash (no 10 Euro bill!) or you can pay w/ VISA/Master card (great!) - Metro: (only) 0.3 Euro per each ride So never charge a high amount!!! There is no refund function in the machine. And there is no integrated ticket for bus+metro.

This place is a must see when visiting Malaga! The walk up to the entrance from the city centre is a bit steep but the views are amazing. The castle itself is nice, well maintained, with little museum and bar. We came here on Sunday evening and the entrance was free (every Sunday since 14 pm)

The long history of these walls and fortress, wonderful views, a walk along the walls with viewpoints on every side of the city. Buy a ticket for everything (the lower part of the Alcazaba castle), it's definitely worth it. You can get there by leaving the upper part and going down along the walls.

Absolutely stunning views of Málaga, though be prepared for quite the steep and relatively long walk up. If you wear the right shoes and clothing, it’s well worth it. Admission is cheap and you pay once you reach the top. There’s a small museum and beautiful views all around. Signage is lacking so the experience is entirely self-guided and interpreted. There’s a nice bar with great drinks and snacks too that made the journey extra worth it. I highly recommend the hike.

The castle and grounds are very well kept and well worth a visit. The entry price is not expensive with reductions for disabled. The views from the ramparts have steep steps but are stunning. There is a very nice inner courtyard with informative botanical information.

Amazing architecture and amazing views from the castle of the surrounding city, countryside and mountains. We walked up to the castle from downtown, but it is easier to have a taxi drop you off there. We enjoyed our visit very much, and spent about an hour and a half exploring the castle, it’s surrounding walks, and gardens. There is a small museum inside the castle with good historical information, and it is included in the cost of the entrance fee. A great place to visit for great views and some fantastic photos!

So beautiful place, with amazing views.. If possible, go with comfortable clothes and sneakers! Or hop on a bus… The climb is a bit steep! The entry is 3,50€ so don't forget to have some coins because they must be put in the machine before you get the ticket. Small price for such a nice peaceful place with a view.

Especially recommended to visit the place because of it's good views from the hills of the city of Gibraltar with its ports and the great airport with a short runway. Please visit the caves with stalactites and stalagmites. Also you will see many apes roaming here and there. Enjoy!!!! Also do not forget the rock of Gibraltar and the last tip of European continent.

It looks like a fort with great views of the city and a low entrance fee. Our Taxi driver was unaware of where the main entrance to the castle was and we ended up being dropped at the bottom of the hill. This resulted in a long climb to get to the top, only to be greeted by a few cars and a tour bus. The castle had well maintained gardens and a little building with some historically relevant objects and information. The path going around the top of the walls is quite narrow and preferably should be one way but worth it enough for the views.

Best view and best place in the city ! You have an 360° view of the city. If you love walking or running, it's perfect for you, you climb the road like 20min and see the amazing landscape ! This monument is a must to visit in Malaga

Beautiful place! Steep walk up alongside the amazing city views. Bring water and sun protection! Just €5,50 for both the monuments. Remains are in really good shape and give you a perfect view of the life back than. We had a nice drink in the bar. Friendly staff and definitely worth a visit when you visit Malaga!

Museum was good. Picasso was an incredible genius to come up with this style of drawing. Apple were smart to use Picasso type illustrations for the first Macintosh computer way back in 1984. Tour guide was great.

(Translated by Google) Also known by other names such as Market Square or Irrigation Square, it is one of the most beautiful squares in the city. In its center is the Monument to Torrijos, represented by a large obelisk that characterizes this square. It is also known for being the place where Picasso took his first steps, since the Fundación Picasso Museo Casa Natal is located in the country houses, houses that make up one of the sides of the square. Politicians like General Riego, sculptors like Fernando Ortiz, writers like Juan José Relosillas, architects like Gerónimo Cuervo or painters like Bernardo Ferrándiz also lived there. Being, in the 15th century, a public market, and a place of leisure and recreation for the bourgeois of the late 19th century, the sound of the bells of the Merced church, next to the birthplace of Picasso, had as witnesses a mosaic popular types of which the brilliant artist, with the passage of time, echoed.

Great walk up, not so great coming down if you have sandals or flip flops can be quite slippery! Views are to die for! Very hot heading up there and when you are at the castle or inside etc. All corners of the castle have a wonderful view point! There is an entry fee of about €3.50 per adult. Or Sunday after 14:00 I believe is free entry! Perfect t little cafe inside also

Wow, the best view to see in Malaga. I was amazed, it was breathtaking. It's not far from the city and you can just walk there. Recommend you to go from the other side of the hill, there was no one and I could take so much time I needed for shooting. The entry is 3,50€ so don't forget to have some coins because they must be put in the machine before you get the ticket. Small price for such a nice peaceful place with a view.

Nice to see but nothing special. Maybe more interesting for people that are interested in history. Nice view to the city. Not very crowded. First you need to walk up the hill. Some parts are little steep. You get a good view from malaga and the port. Best buy the combiticket.

Dress carefully. It's a long walk up ( or take the bus). When there you have the remains of a fortress. Stunning views, you can really see all of Malaga. Really enjoyed the time at the top.

Only walls left from the original castle, but since the views from them are great and the entrance is dirty cheap, it's still worth the climb. Don't miss the audio guide QR code just after the entrance! FYI, the two castles are connected, but you cannot use the connection, and have to go around.

This historic castle, built by the moors in the 10th century offers incredible views of the city of Malaga and the marina. The hike up to the top is not very strenuous but definitely worth it. Price is €5,50.

The views are amazing, especially on a sunny clear day. Free entrance on Sundays after 14:00. The walk up is okay, a bit steep in places, but well worth the effort. I was impressed how a pregnant Mom expecting on June 1st persevered even taking well deserved rests along the stairs. She motivated me! Enjoy!!!

Well worth the walk up the hill for the views alone. Superb for photography. Around 3 euros to visit but free after 2pm on a Sunday - however it is really busy then so worth paying and coming at a quieter time! Bar at the top is very good.

Amazing view in the walking route towards the castle. it is at the peak of the mountain facing the sea. The hike is perfect combination of experiencing beauty and sense of working out. The temperature in February is also perfect for this hike.

Beautiful old castle, the way up is a bit of an exercise but there is also a bus if you don't want to walk. Stunning views all around over the city and ocean. Free audioguide over a QR code, however, you need to use your data. Would recommend getting a combined ticket with Alcazaba, which is valid for 48hrs.

  • 4/5 Nathan P. 2 months ago on Google • 17 reviews New
Pretty steep climb, and on a hot day it would probably be uncomfortable. However, the views were worth the effort. There is a bus service if you can't manage the climb. There is a free audio guide accessed by a QR code. This has information about Gibralfaro and its sister site, Alcazaba. Entry for both sites is €5.50 for adults and €2.50 for children aged under 16. You don't need to visit both sites on the same day and have 48 hours to do this.

We arrived to the castle walking all the way through the trail paths where the climb is very steep but worth it for the amazing views. Once there we walked through all the walls around and squares of the Moorish castle ruins enjoying the well preserved building and the fabulous panoramic views of the beautiful Malaga city and Costa del Sol. We also enjoyed the history of the castle in the exhibitions they have. Don't miss it if you visit Malaga.

(Translated by Google) It is undoubtedly one of the most visited and most beautiful squares in the city of Malaga. In the center there is an obelisk that was chosen by order of Queen Isabel II in honor of General Torrijos shot on the beaches of San Andrés for defending the Constitution and national freedoms. Around you can find many cafes and a restaurant, although unfortunately many of them are mainly focused on tourists, so the quality and service do not lavish much for their presence. And not to mention that this square was the playground of the most universal artist that Spain has given, Pablo Ruiz Picasso The square itself was outside the walls and was used as a market place, in one corner there was a church that unfortunately disappeared on the night of the burning of churches and convents in 1931, the church of La Merced, which is the one that gives the name to the square, although formerly it was called irrigation plaza in honor of a general and liberal politician executed by the absolutism of Fernando VII (Original) Sin duda es una de las plazas más visitadas y más bonitas de la ciudad de Málaga.

Wonderful place, cozy cafeteria on a top. We had a long walk around - on walls, also in garden. Despite of low season, in weekend there were many people. Wonderful view from viewpoint outside of castle.

A nice old fortress. The walk up the hill is a bit steep, but it is worth it for the views from the castle walls. There is also a small exhibition and a restaurant inside the fortress.

It’s a bit of a climb to get up there but it’s definitely worth it. The almost 360 degrees view of the city is breathtaking. Unfortunately didn’t get there on a clear day, but was nevertheless quite beautiful. Once up there a visit of the castle is due. €3.50 to get in, and it’s a nice walk around various parts of the castle that makes the view even more special.

The drive-up is spectacular with amazing views. Once you're on top there's parking just off to the side usually with a lot attendant to guide you in the right direction. The castle takes no more than 30 minutes to tour but if you are impatient you can do it in 15 to 20 minutes.

Loved this castle. Car park at the top. View from the top is worth the walk up. Lovely quiet cafe here to relax and recover from the walk. Spectacular views from the walk. Preferred this to the lower castle.

Pretty formidable castle. It's a long walk up the hill before you get in. Lots to see, many walls to walk. The audio guide is nice and informative but the Castillo misses an extensive one. Also I could favor a bit dressing up. All signs and explanations are in Spanish, so I missed detailed information. A multiple language audio guide could help out here.

The views from here and incredible, images don't really do it justice. The architecture is amazing and make the climb worth it. Be wary it closes earlier than the fortress and we had to do the walk twice but didn't mind as we should have googled it before heading up

Long and steep walk to this castle on the edge of Málaga but worth every step of it for the incredible views of the city and surrounding area. The castle itself is pretty cool too and worth the small entrance fee. A great way to spend a couple of hours.

Not the most easy hike but you can go up by car or bus. The view is great but there's also many people. There's also a waterfoutain on top to refill your water bottle.

Beautiful place. Worth the steep walk. Although you can do it the easy way with a bus or taxi to the top, then walk down. Path is quite steep and slippy (ceramic and stones paths) but there is an alternate way up along a tarmac road. Amazing views of the city and port

Beautiful place, definitely worth visiting. Especially the views are breathtaking! It’s worth to buy a ticket, a nice cafe inside

The climb to the castle is quite easy and definitely worthy. The views are really nice. Also the fee is really low for what you get, so don't miss this place.

  • 5/5 Nadi W. 10 months ago on Google
We went up there in the afternoon, and enjoyed the spectacular view over Málaga. The castle with all its surroundings is very spacious, so it doesn't get too crowded and people can roam around. The view from up there is just stunning and at the end of the visit we sat down on the terrace of the café, and enjoyed an iced coffee. Tip: the access to the castle is free on sundays after 2 pm!☺️

The view while going up this place it's amazing 🤩🤩🤩 You can see the whole city from above, as well as the sea and harbor. The way up is a little suffocating, mostly if you go in summer, because of the heat. I would recommend wearing sports shoes and comfortable clothes, as well as a hat and taking a bottle of water. Although, you may find some people on the way, who sell bottles of water for 1€. The tickets to go inside the castle cost 3.50€ per person and have different offers, in case you want to visit the other edification next to the castle too. Once inside, there is a little bar, where you can sit and drink something at a very nice terrace with a wonderful view, again. There are restrooms as well. Walking the wall is breathtaking, you can take beautiful pictures all over and contemplate the city.

Great castle with the best view of the city! A great restsaurant cause trust me the path up and all the steps will make you thirsty!

  • 5/5 Ofek S. 7 months ago on Google
Really cool and old castle, not a lot to see in my opinion but the views are worth it. You can see the entire city of Malaga and the Mediterranean sea which is nice. Also the entrance is free on Sundays from 2 PM

Great place to watch the sunset! The castle in itself is just walls and was built as an extension to Alcazaba, hence not a lot to see inside except to explore but offers amazing views of Malaga and the Bullring

A visit to the Gibralfaro Fortress is a must when in Malaga. It’s not only a journey through history but also an opportunity to see the city from an unparalleled perspective. I highly recommend timing your visit to coincide with sunset for an even more unforgettable experience. 🌄 The walk up to the fortress is a bit of a trek, but it’s absolutely worth the effort for the panoramic views and the historical experience that awaits at the top. The combination of historical intrigue, stunning views, and the enchanting atmosphere at dusk makes Gibralfaro Fortress a highlight of any trip to Malaga. 🇪🇸

This place is all about the views. Take the hike up the road and spend a view hours snapping away and admiring what you can see in the distance. The castle itself is ok and has an interesting story (there's a little audio guide you can access for free with your phone). It's not expensive so worth doing since you've walked up!
