April 2021 My first visit to Leopard Lodge was in 2002 with a company, TDE. Since then, Hein Pretorius and I visited the lodge a few times with family and friends for Xmas lunches. Never for breakfast though. Saturday, 24 April – sipped coffee in bed and watched the small brown canaries in our garden – ‘shall we go somewhere for breakfast..’ Hein searched for bush breakfasts and Leopard Lodge popped up. Haven’t been there for at least 4 years. Yes, they do a la carte breakfast between 8 and 10. I dressed warmly in a thick red jacket – it was 13 oC outside. Small clouds were all over the sky – the Hartbeespoort dam is cleared of Hyacinths … good job! Drove up towards the lodge and hordes of vultures were seen circling over the mountain. The lodge has accommodation for 32 people – some rooms for couples, other self-catering houses for a group – all separate from the main lodge. There’s a chapel for weddings and walking trails. Next to the lodge is a boma area, set out with small tables and chairs for breakfast. What an interesting menu! My eyes immediately locked onto the Banters Breakfast … and it didn’t disappoint (although I couldn’t taste the basil pesto). I loved the zucchini noodles and the Halloumi!!! Hein chose the Leopard Sunrise and enjoyed every bite. After breakfast we enjoyed our coffee on comfy chairs that overlook the valley and Hartbeespoort dam. Worth a visit!!!!

Crummy room, cold breakfast and untrained service. We stayed in room 8. The room feels like a converted garage, horrible carpet, water stains on ceiling and noisy aircon. At half the price it would have still been bad value. Breakfast buffet was not great. The cheese was great but the toast was cold and the heaps of eggs, bacon etc was cold and dry. The service was horrendous. One of the (senior?) staff members was aggressive and rude when it came to paying for cappuccinos. The coup de grâce was a gardening staff member asking us for transport money...

Please reign in your manager, Moses. He is condescending, arrogant and borders aggressive. We confirmed on 2 occasions with 2 different employees during the week that we would be allowed to have a picnic with our own snacks for the kids, and then order sundowners from the bar. This Moses was so full of himself, he treated us as if we are from the gutters. Pathetic service and treatment

A little piece of paradise that's just a short drive away from Johannesburg. Amazing views, great service, and hospitable staff. When I made my booking, I informed Leon the manager that I intended to propose to my girlfriend and boy did he go out of his way to help me with the planning and making it a surprise. Leon went so far as to even make an itinerary for me and went through every step of the plan in detail. The whole set up was amazing! I couldn't have made it happen without the help of Leon and the entire team. Well done guys! You truly treated my fiancé and I like royalty. We will definitely visit again!

Breakaway with a true bushveld feel and nice views. The restaurant has a limited menu but the food was tasty. There were a few issues with our accommodation: the shower drain was blocked, the outside light did not work, when it rained we discovered 4 water leaks in our unit and the towels provided are small. When one pays that amount of money you expect better and I feel there are cheaper accommodation options in the area which provides more bang for your buck.

What a big disappointment. Don’t waist your time to come and eat here. When we arrived there was no one to receive us, we had to wait 10 minutes and eventually asked a waiter so show us to our table but was told to wait because he was too busy. We made a booking for lunch at 14h and was told our table was not ready. When we eventually got to our table 40 minutes later there were no cutlery. It was n small table for two people, we were four people. After ordering our food we waited and only 20 minutes later the waiter told us that one dish is no longer available. They could have told us 20 minutes earlier. After that we decided to leave and asked for the bill which took another few minutes because their system was offline so we decided to pay at reception. This place has so much potential but lack respect and good management.

My son got married there recently and I must admit it was an incredible experience. The views are spectacular making for an amazing ambience, staff super friendly and the food was really top notch. Normally wedding food tends to be, lets say rather ordinary, but not this place. Highly recommended. If I have one criticism, I would be the accommodation, nothing wrong with it, but could do with a facelift.

We booked in for the long weekend, first we were treated with disdain at reception. We had barely put down our luggage at 19H20 on Friday evening, we were told to please come and order as the kitchen and bar were closing at 20H00. The meal was mediocre but extremely pricey. We were sometimes checked on by two of the kitchen staff encouraging us to finish so they could close. The chalet did not represent what we were sent, a squirrel or rat ate all the food brought home. one must wash dishes in the bathroom basin, no microwave in the chalet either. We endeavored to call management to no avail. I will unfortunately not support the lodge again.

The worst manager of a venue i hsve ever come upon Leon.My children got married and what a horrible experience we had. The chapel's lights didn't work, the microphone didn't work the pastor had to speak at the top of her lungs so that the guests could hear.In the bridal (honeymoon suite) the air-conditioning didn't work and at temp of 38°c it was horrible for bride and bridesmaids to get ready. The food was great but the service of the manager Leon was horrifying, he was rude and got no manners at all,no relationship in how to work with clients and treat clients. The bar was extremely expensive paying for 2 savanas and 2 coffees R210, paying for a bottle of water R35 not even speaking about brandy, whiskey and beer prices that is ridiculous. Some of the guest paid extra for mattresses for their kids and on requiring about it he Leon was rude to the guests. While at the reception they broke into the honeymoon suite and stole things when the groom phone the manager Leon didn't do anything about it and swear him and hung up on him. They charge for things that the coiple didn't even ask for. When you go to book venue it is all promoses and stories to give you the best and most wonderful wedding (dream wedding) but it is all lies . My opion do not even consider using that venue you will be sorry later it was a nightmare. Leon you as manager must go and get a course on how to treat guests and how to manage a venue.

Visited Leopard Lodge just for the hike and had a great time. The hike was challenging and there was a map to help us navigate the route. The markings on the ground were helpful as some of the paper markings were turned upside down. We saw warthogs and a kudu. Definitely start this one early as it gets quite hot on the trail. Total distance was 4.3kms.

An absolute stunning venue! Definitely value for money. We celebrated my mother’s 80th birthday there and the whole family was able to spend quality time together as the accommodation lent itself to enjoy the facilities together! The views from the main building is first class and grounds are kept neat. The staff was friendly and helpful at all times and the food more than enough.

Our Wedding 20 years ago was such a memorable experience for everyone, we’re still talking about the Venison Potjie et al on the Fire, lovely venue and rooms and chalets that led to another wedding of 18 years now ❣️Many breakfasts later we still love Leopard Lodge

Came all the way from JHB for a 12.00 lunch booking. We were asked to sit on the grass and have drinks as they were still clearing away breakfast. By 12.45 tables were ready and overheard the waiter telling a patron that the kitchen was not yet open so I went to investigate. I could sense getting lunch by 2pm. Too hungry to wait. Poor management, sweet staff but could not remark on the food as we left. The only thing going for this establishment is the magnificent views everything else is downhill from there.

Beautiful place to hike & have lunch. Gorgeous views & very good food. However the service was not great. Our waitress did not know the menu and had to go find out details before we could order. Then, we questioned why we were charged for 3 glasses of wine since we had only two & she stormed off angry with the bill to change it. I went after her to try sorting it out only to be told her colleague served us 1 glass & she did 2, which is incorrect. I am sure they mixed up the tables, but what an attitude. Train your staff!!!

I will most definitely recommend Leopard Lodge! We were there for our Honeymoon Weekend. And we were treated like royalty. Accommodation is fantastic and the service is above and beyond. Especially Colin 😊 BUT the best part will definitely be that the Kitchen and Food and Beverage Team created a Vegan menu for us. They catered for our dietary needs and went all out. Of I could rate then 10 out 5 i would. Thanks to everyone! 😁😎😊
