This review is about the Tall Pines area of Walnut Woods Metro Park specifically the Sweetgum Trail. I've been to this trail atleast 3 times. All in the summertime. I went today after a light snowfall. It's just as beautiful in the winter as it is in the summer. Just a different perspective.

I've always loved this trail. So does my dog Patches. I don't know when they installed this new bird watching sitting area by Wild Birds Unlimited but I love it! Saw several different birds and it was so relaxing to sit at a picnic table nearby.

Dog park often has aggressive dogs. One owner brought a dog that aggressively pinned 5 different dogs on separate occasions and couldn't seem to get control of his dog, but still insisted that it stay there. I understand that some dogs can't help but be aggressive, but if that is the case don't bring them to the dog park.. everyone was on high alert and talking about that dog the entire time.

Love this park to go walking in on both sides. Tall Pines Area is beautiful and well shaded.Would recommend a visit there. Even has a very nice dog park. Only thing that needs to be fixed here is that certain areas along multi use trail get flooded a lot when it rains and you can't use it as it is usually closed off for days. Other than that beautiful park to visit.

Loved this Metro Park! I was astonished by the beauty of the pines and sweet gum treesβ€” absolutely breathtaking! Peaceful, quiet, immaculately maintained trails for hiking and biking. Saw various species of birds and all sorts of butterflies while hiking. Great little getaway! I spotted wheelchair accessible picnic tables, too, which I was excited about.

I always love walking at the Tall Pines area. Actually I love walking all the trails. Nice flat trails which is wonderful for the physical challenged I saw a couple teaching their kids to ride a bike. This is a perfect safe place to do that.

Very good and fun. I hiked on the buckeye trail. Nice. 2 dog parks. Plenty of picnic tables. I also did the monarch and kestrel trails. Very long and only for the strong. You will need good shoes and time. Kestrel trail has ponds, observation deck, and swing. Go for it.

Very lovely park - well kept and my pups love walking the trails and playing at the dog park! The park ranger was also very kind and waited for my husband and me to get back to our car before exiting.

Super easy paved trail. A little under water in one spot but not so much you couldn’t get by. Tick alert so we stayed in the paved trail. We went in the early morning so it was not busy and nice and quiet. There is a parking lot that has plenty of parking. No restroom facilities but does have a porta john on site. It was big and not too gross (as they can be) and had hand sanitizer which was nice. I recommend this park. We were able to make it a 3 mile walk. By using the loop through to make a figure eight. We came from Dublin so it was also a nice drive.

This is a relatively new park with lots of geometrically planted trees - it’s a bit odd, but beautiful in a planned kind of way. It features long paved trails looping around the park and through meadows and two dog parks (for large and small dogs.)

Great spot for engagement photos! you have to walk about a mile to get to the pines. If you’re looking for symmetry it’s within the pines, not from the walk way

Beautiful park over-all. As most have commented, its mostly "undeveloped" providing a great habitat for the wildlife. Great picture opportunities for nature photographers, especially for plants, insects or birds. The center section of the park has bike trail along the north end, that connects the Tall Pines area on the west, with the other area with dog park on the east. In this center section is an Osprey nest and the birds can be frequently seen either flying, fishing or eating. The attached photo was taken from a cell phone, through a cheaper spotting scope (the color is a little off and chromatic aberration is from the scope) but does give a decent idea of what to look for if you wish to photograph the birds. Enjoy!

Very pleasantly surprised. The tall pines trail is excellent and much shaded. I walked at peak heat of day and the temp Was -10degrees cooler under the lovely tree canopy. Paved flat trails. Could easily push baby running buggy. Clean, well Maintained park. Ranger staff was helpful and pleasant. I will return.

Very surprised by this park! Nice paved trails that are suitable for running. I like it a lot and will add this park to my daily runs. Very close to three creeks metro park so if you enjoy the outdoors you can do both in one day. They are 5 minutes apart by car.

Pups had a good time. Would have been nice for them to have a water spigot in the area for the dogs to drink, I didnt see one but, I could have over looked it. Also more things for them to play on but over all the pups got to burn off some energy.

We use the dog park here frequently. This is a very nice park for the doggie crowd. They have a large dog and a small dog area. Things for them to play on and a large area to run. There is almost always some other dog or dogs to socialize with. Lots of friendly owners too. There is also a doggie swim area but closed for the winter.

Good place to take kids if you don't like crowds. I do wish dog walkers would use the dog park part. Not the kids play area or the sides of the walking paths. They provide doggie bags I wish dog owners would use them

Amazing park and great place to walk our dogs. Paths are paved for the most part and very dog friendly. Great place for a picnic with beautiful scenery. Only item to address is more trash cans for waste. Park is alway immaculate and it’s because everyone is respectful and carry their trash with them through the whole walk. I know trash cans may take way from the scenery and it would be nice to have at least one during the trail

Very lovely park. We did the Buckeye, Monarch, and Kestrel trails. Very well maintained. Before setting off on our hike, the Ranger on duty was very informative on the area and shared insight on the frogs/salamanders currently out. She also warned us of the water on one of the trails. The playground area was also well maintained and had neat climbing rocks, a tire swing, and various other things children could climb on and play. The dog parks also looked great and we can't wait to bring our dog next time.

Haven't seen the whole park yet, but the trail through the woods we walked was very nice. Fair amount of tree shade from the sun, no road noise, some bike riders but they were courteous, saw some small wildlife. The trail that connected to the rest of the park was through open fields, so no shade from hot sun.

The park is beautiful but there are swarms of mosquitoes on the trails. My toddlers were eaten alive and it made the whole walk a living nightmare πŸ˜•

Floods a bit. Dog park is best in the area but people aren't always making the best choices for their dogs. Aggressive Huskies seem more plentiful than dandelions. About 50% of people don't clean up after their dogs, and for some reason people bring beagles and other breeds that just bark incessantly at other dogs, ruining the playful mood of some dogs. Park can be great, when the people aren't thoughtless.

Great place to relax! Awesome dog park. There's a section for small dogs and a separate section for large dogs. The large section has a small pond. Terrain is fairly open and flat with small trees.

We went in the Tall pines trail during winter and the view was absolutely breathtaking. There are such great photo spots. My favorite part of the trail was viewing the Tall pine trees. A couple told us they spotted deers on the trail, we weren't fortunate to encounter deer's on our trail. But we will surely visit this place again.
