Just about to hit 1 year at Recursive. This was my first time joining a CrossFit gym and I was very tentative. Everyone here was super welcoming and there is a very positive culture which made it an easy decision to continue. The coaches are amazing at working with all skill levels and helping everyone grow. I would 100% recommend this gym no matter if you're a CrossFit expert or total beginner.

I went looking for a new gym after a year and a half away with a new baby and covid. I need consistent exercise in my life and some motivation and accountability, especially in the winter when it gets so cold and harder to motivate myself to go for runs. I checked this place out based on the strong google reviews, despite a worry about the typical crossfit reputation. It's been a great choice, and not like the reputation. I'd compare it more to a group sport than a gym. It's not a typical large gym where you might only spend 60/month, but you barely show up and no one knows you/notices. Here you learn everyone's name and they know yours, you get to know a regular crew and it's a supportive environment, no matter where you are at. Coaches are experienced and always give personal attention every class. It's been worth the investment to have that accountability and community.

I've been going to Recursive for about a year now, and I have nothing but great things to say. The coaches motivate and consistently provide feedback to help ensure you're improving. The community and members of Recursive are friendly and welcoming. I've never felt intimidated going there, even when I was new. Lastly, the programming allows you to challenge yourself and can be scaled to not be overwhelming for any fitness level. I can't recommend Recursive enough if you're looking to challenge yourself and get in better shape!

After re-locating to Madison from NYC, I needed to get my fitness routine back in order. Nikole welcomed me to CrossFit Recursive with open arms, and this was my first CrossFit experience so felt a bit intimidated, I must admit. Coaches are really supportive and patient, workouts are always fresh and challenging, and fellow members are embracing--truly a no-judgement, you-do-you kinda space. It's been an amazing addition to my re-located life!

Everyone is non-judgmental and extremely supportive no matter where you are in your fitness journey. Whether you’re young or old, just starting out, or a veteran, the culture is based around supporting each other. My fitness journey has significantly changed since going to Recursive.

If you had told me year ago I would love being part of a CrossFit gym, I would have laughed. I’ve never been much of an athlete or particularly fit and CrossFit was intimidating. Yet, I’ve never felt out of place at CrossFit Recursive and feel lucky to be part of this enthusiastic and friendly community. The coaches strike a balance between encouraging me to push myself and making sure I don’t go too far and get hurt. The other members are welcoming and I enjoy the after hours activities the gym puts together. No one has ever made me feel bad for adjusting the movements to match my fitness level, and we all encourage each other throughout the workouts. Most importantly, joining has allowed me to be more independent in my daily life. No more having to ask the boyfriend to carry the giant box of cat litter inside. During a recent move, I was able to carry and move much more than I had in the previous move. It feels fantastic to be stronger and more self sufficient. If you’re on the fence, I would recommend CrossFit Recursive as the place for you. Come in and meet some of these wonderful people and know that you’ll be welcomed, no matter your fitness level.

Owner is inhuman. While visiting Madison on the second anniversary of my father’s death, I asked to drop into a class and do my dad’s memorial workout, but the owner refused.

I've been a member at Recursive for about 2 months now. I love it! You always leave feeling great because it's such a good workout. (although you know you will be sore the next day) If you want to feel like an athlete join a crossfit gym, everything is designed to increase your entire body strength. The coaches at Recursive really are awesome too! They're all super friendly and will help push you to the best you.

It's evident from the start that the owners care about the athletes (aka anybody who comes to workout). Every coach is knowledgeable and encouraging, and there is a welcoming sense of community. Whether you are new and still trying to decide if CrossFit is right for you, or you are a highly-experienced CrossFit athlete, I'd highly recommend coming & checking it out.

Very clean. Coach was nice and gave some good tips and various scaling options. Could use some updated equipment and generally just more equipment, would be hard to accommodate a full class, this is the only gym I've been to that doesn't have chalk. Space is pretty small. Website isn't very user friendly for a drop in.

I just started working out here just 3 days ago and i know i'm still fresh and I haven't even completed my fundamentals yet but I LOVE IT. The gym is very clean and well taken care of, every coach I've ran into has introduced themselves and that's wonderful cause you can tell that the owners and coach's care a lot about there business and helping people reach there fitness goals. I am very pleased with my first few days and am excited to get stronger as i go!
