2023 ... Now open on Saturday. Our stopping place on the way home from Smokies. Shrimp Basket and Fish today. Great chili, nice and thick, lots of meat and flavor. Tasty Coleslaw again. Look at all those shrimp ! Dang hungry again looking at photos. We try to stop here often when traveling. Their shrimp basket is surprisingly good. Closed on Saturday because of Covid. What happened ? We stopped again after Christmas 2020 on the way home ... 5 in shrimp basket, no cocktail sauce and the tiny coleslaw was terrible (2 bites) compared to the best I've ever had back at Thanksgiving. Very disappointed. 2022 Enjoyed our visit. Best onion rings and root beer

Awesome place, we hold a car meets here sometimes with the older people that bring their older muscle cars out. The employee's haven't chased us off yet so that's good lol. I'm super glad they let us hang for a few hours every other Friday. Thanks guys! Sincerely, Team 7愛.

Second time here. The food has been fresh, tasty, and as ordered and has come out promptly. We will be back. (The Sriracha cheese curds are my new favorite thing!)

Did someone say old time drive-in A&W, and I mean old time. They still have the push button for calling in your order and the flip switch for them to get your tray!! Okay get past the cool old school stuff that's way cool and it experience went good. Stopped here following a kids softball game and had by far the best fast food burger I've had in a while. I mean the cheese was melted and I didn't feel shorted on what I was served. The fries were crispy and the root beer was amazing. If you are passing through and are thinking of hitting up the other Drive-In burger place over A&W, don't this is a must stop. The only reason I'm giving a four star is because I had to send back my daughter's hamburger twice, and still ended up scraping the cheese off to give her a hamburger. But other than that it was a great visit.

Like the old days you order from your car, the burgers and fried curd cheese were very good. The A&W root beer is very good.

I love the nostalgia! The A&W Root Beer is a must have. I also got the dip dogs and fries ($4 deal) and that was really good too. When I was a child (40 years ago) we had one of the little A&W mugs and I was pleasantly surprised that they still have them. Of course I now see it as a shot glass vs a drinking cup. 😂

Just ate there earlier today and the food and service are awesome!!! Had a minor problem where the menu had recently changed so I got chicken sliders instead of the bacon double I thought I ordered. Also got my root beer in a cup instead of that frosty mug. They fixed both right away and even though I offered to pay the difference, they left me with the cup of root beer and the sliders. You can't get a better fast food burger anywhere. Made fresh like it should be. The fries are nice and crispy too. As far as a frosty cold mug of A&W root beer, well, what can I say other than there's no better way to have one than that. Wish we had the A&W in Athens as I don't get up to Madisonville too often. I'd trade it for the local "America's Drive In" ANY TIME!! (forget McDs).... Of course, the staff there is very friendly and helpful too! Lots of smiles and great service!! If you want a REAL American burger, you need to go there and ditch the rest. I know I'll be back when I get the chance!!!

Loved it. Fast but fresh

Coming back from a trip, we noticed it was a traditonal drive in resturant. My lady was excited, so I said lets stop. We had already eaten, and was mostly interested in a desert treat, but I notced the family meal on the menu. 6 decent sized Burgers, Fries, and a Gallon of Root Beer. I bought it to take home, and the food and Root Beer was delicious. I may head that way another day just to get it again.

Literally my favorite place to eat. We live in maryville but with our business, most of our work is in Monroe county so we frequently come here. The papa burger is the best! And the staff is always friendly.

Driving to Cades Cove,TN I saw this and had to make an quick visit. Growing up with A&W in Phoenix it was aways a treat with the family in the 50'-60's, they are so rare now. Got a mug and a Root Beer. Mmmmmmm Can't wait to go back!

Pretty disappointing experience....when I arrived, they had turned most of the intercoms off because it was within an hour of closing. They also said they had already cleaned the ice cream machine, so I couldn't get what I wanted. I ordered cheese curds and waited and waited and never got my order so I left. All the workers(all teenagers) act and look like they are absolutely miserable working there. Needs a major facelift. 👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻

The food was prepared quickly and correctly. Everything tasted awesome. Employees were awesome. My only complaint is they are no longer open on Saturdays.

This place is still out of date and the convenience of paying on an app or at the menu would be so much better. I never like to see my card being taken away out of sight to be charged. All that being said, I still go once in a while for fixes like root beer floats!

I've passed by this place a thousand times and never stopped. My girlfriend and I decided to try it a couple weeks ago and we where very surprised. The food was all really good and pretty inexpensive. We did wait a little longer then you might at a normal fast food restaurants but we did go during the lunch rush.

Their Fresh Root Beer is the Best! Love the ice and it's cheaper than Sonic. They need to work on improving delivery Even though I only order a drink/bag of ice, I have to wait until everyone that ordered ahead of me is served AND the bag of ice has started melting already, and then even more melts when they carry the bag out to me and holding it against their bodies like a frickin baby!

Best shakes around! My favorite is the peanut butter & chocolate shake. My husband's is the peanut butter & banana shake.

There arent many old school places left but this A & W has it all. Fresh food, Friendly service, great job guys. I come by weekly and have never had a bad experience.

I'm going to assume that the cold food and being forgotten had to do with it being 45 minutes from closing time on a Sunday night. However, it seems knowing someone that works there gets you quicker service. A group who came 5/10 minutes AFTER we ordered got their food 10 or more minutes before us.

I will never go to this place again. Twice now my food has been undercooked. This time it was the corn dog. Hotdog barely warm and mushy coating. The manager wasn't even willing to let me get a Coney dog to replace it. Charged me for it !!!! I will never have a good word to say about that A&W and will spread the word about the food and the service. Worst experience ever !!!!

Our group came and had three orders. We were the first to order. Everyone got their food and had finished except for us. When I questioned the lady said it was 20 min wait and would not do anything to compensate. I explained we were the first to order and she had zero concern as to why our order hadn’t been taken care of. We will NOT return as this is unacceptable.

This is a really cool location! Very original and more reminiscent of the older style ones I grew up with in Michigan. The food was amazing, not a single let down to this stop! Great service, fast to get our food. All in all, I will make the 35 minute trip to eat here again! I saw the 100 years painted on the building, my friends, there is a reason why they have stayed in business that long. I am not even a root beer drinker, but if it's A&W, I always have one. Cannot tell you guys enough how much my family enjoys your food and atmosphere!

Had the best blt meal for 6 bucks! It's my new go to place! Lots of bacon on the sandwich and was very very good.. fries not too salty! Loved it! Cheap cones too! Our pups love going there to get pup cups! Amazing prices!

Ordered 2 Footlong hot dogs with mustard, chili and slaw. Looked like someone pucked in the dang boxes. I didn't ask for cheese but evidently they just put liquid vomit onto it.

I haven't seen an A&W with the outdoor carhop situation since the 90s. It was such a treat when we were driving through. Everything was hot and delicious.

Had the double bacon cheese burger, onion rings and a rootbeer our total was $22 for 2 people. Hubby had same burger but Chilli cheese fries. Food was fast and tasty. Rootbeer was amazing. It says it's made with cane sugar on the cup. It was very very good. The staff were all friendly.

We had one of the best root beer floats ever here. Delicious with an incredibly perfect balance of root beer and ice cream. Loved it!

Good food and servers. The facility is a little worn and could use an update to make drive ups functional or block them off so customers do as I, and park 3 times to get a functional sign.

Set out front waiting to place an order and notice that only one person was wearing a mask, one person look like she was either real tired or she was sick and one person couldn't keep her hands off of her face so decided I wasn't going to make an order.

Took my parents here on our way home from pigeon forge for happy hour (2-4pm). We arrived 12 minutes until 4 pm and hit the order button. They didn't try to take our order until 19 mins after 4pm (31 mins after we hit the button) and proceeded to let us know that happy hour was now over. Also, wouldnt give my parents a senior discount as their sign said. The lady acted like taking our order was interrupting her day or something. We left and we won't be back. And, our car club will now be going elsewhere as well. I wont recommend this place to anybody again!!!.

Great place for lunch! Everyone is incredibly polite and the food is always fresh. We used to go here a lot when we lived in Madisonville so it's always a treat going back! Would be 5 stars, only 4 due to workers not wearing masks.

We mainly go for the ice cream which is the best. We got a twist cone for me and a large cup of vanilla ice cream for my beautiful german shepherd Rusty. Normally when someone comes up to the car he growls but never at A&W. He loves when they bring him his ice cream.. Everyone is always so friendly there. Grateful job folks!
