Interesting place if you are here when it is open( the second weekend of every month). The entrance is free, we booked the tickets in advance but nobody checked them. There is like a market with lots of stuff inside also but the prices are very big. The trains are interesting and well maintained.

Locomotives telling the history of Spanish Railway. Rooms exhibiting railway tracks, tools, pictures and clothes give you more details on how things were in the past. A room with three train scale models is also part of visit. We visited Saturday around midday. During week it costs 6 euros. Weekend 3 euros. No queues. A nice flea market selling old toys in two platforms. We spend around 1.5 hours there.

Great place for railway lovers with over 20 items on display. Went on a Saturday and a flea market was there so entrance was free

I liked it. Can't say the same about my wife or my daughters though 😂. It's interesting to see steam locomotives and some fancy reason carriages belonging to rich or important people. Reminds you of a time when train was the most advanced transport mean. Access into a few of the locomotives or carriages is allowed. I wish there were more. Though this is not on the top-10 places to see in Madrid, I would give it a try if you're out of ideas. Random fact: tickets were more expensive compared to some nicer museums.

Visited during the market on Saturday, spent there whole afternoon. Very cool place to shop some original gems, to have a drink or eat something nice.

What an absolute gem of a museum but not all exhibits have English translation. Excellent exhibit about OLE which I have never seen in any other rail museum. Only €3 to get in.

It's nice, I love trains but too little information in English. Even the QR code provided doesn't have any English information on Google Arts. Anyway, it would have been nice if inside the trains could be visited as well not just from the outside. I also feel like because of the COVID, some facilities have been closed like the Cafeteria and the outer courtyard.

I had the best guide in my long whole life: Luis G. Legido. Been there twice in the past, but never enjoyed it so much as this time with the guided tour. Trains are magnificent! Although quite big it should be a bigger museum!

Extremely interesting railroad museum in a beautiful, historic Madrid train station. We did not know about this before arriving in the city! Great selection of locomotives and rolling stock from the mid-1800s through the 20th century.

Entrance: 6€, reductions available (kids, students, etc.) A lot of trains, few big models (whole railways with electricity and running trains) and also hundreds of models of trains. It was possible to go inside few of those trains. Too bad it is impossible to go inside more of those. Also: entrance outside (there were more trains) was closed and prohibited. Anyway cool to see.

The Railway Museum is converted to a market one Saturday per month. The old trains are the supporting structure for the market. You can tour some trains, eat in some, and find stalls set up in front of others selling crafts, artisan food, and clothing for men, women and children. Behind the station there are food trucks. The food is somewhat pricey. You will also find food and resale items outside on the right of the entrance. Another feature of the market is live music and dancing. The music made the market come alive.

Lots of trains. Some reviews said they don't have English translations but when I visited (Aug 23) they do for all the trains, it's just missing for some of the smaller exhibits in the side rooms. It's an old converted train station, and lots of detailed information about the trains. I finished everything in around an hour. If you're interested in train history you'll like it! I wish more of the trains were open/accessible, as in the Sacramento train museum for example.

Once a month they have a market full of shops from home made crafts, antiques, live music, unique selection of food and more. Great place to bring your kids and if you’re looking for a place to have a wonderful time with friends and family, this is would be great the place!

Absolutely gorgeous place for children. My 4 year old daughter fell in love with the trains and miniatures. There was also a mini train to ride outside the building - funny and unique experience. The ticket was 5 euro per adult and free for her.

A rare glimpse into the past. It's a nice place to visit if you are into old trains and such. There are various railway related items exhibited in the waiting rooms that worth to visit. Also, there is a room where model trains are on show presenting the history of trains from steam to bullet trains. My favourite piece is a steam engine cut up in a way that shows the inner working parts of the locomotive. It's like an exploded drawing but in 3D. Maybe it's my fault but I didn't find any written explanations or guides about the technical details of the trains or what they did what they were capable of. None the less I enjoyed being there. The trains are not moving so it's a fairly safe place for kids too.

Magical place, we couldn't help but imagine ourselves living back in the 19th century and traveling in one of those marvelous trains....and they even had a musical play today about the Orient express

  • 4/5 Norm G. 10 months ago on Google
I like this place as an adult person. However, I went there to see if I could bring some kids there. The answer is no for young kids because most of the old train locomotives on display were not allowed to be climbed or entered by visitors. With many plaques for people to read, it will certainly kill the interests for kids.

My small toddler is in a phase where he loves vehicles, and he absolutely enjoyed this museum. For the adults, it's also pretty cool to see and learn about the various trains that were in operation throughout the years.

  • 5/5 Alun E. 11 months ago on Google
Free admission, possibly because of the artisan market going on at the time. The trains are beautifully kept and there are information boards about all of them. You can go into the control area of some.

Few hours on Saturday at Railway Museum was fun to look at the old trains and carts. We liked set up with market vendors stalls along the old train station and locomotives. Outside it was flea market and plenty of food to try. Good place for sunny or rainy day. Flea market offered a lot of vintage and antique items, as well as from more recent times especially for those who like music memorabilia, and of course, clothes.

Beautiful collection of trains starting from the first steam engines, first electric locomotives to the first diesel motors.

A really great museum, showing the evolution of trains and engines since the 19th century. In my opinion it is a must-see attraction if you go to Madrid. Unfortunately since we only had 1 hour, we didn't get to look at everything, so I would recommend at least 2 hours for a visit in this museum.

Growing up on the rail tracks at home ,this was a great morning to spend wandering around old train and rail history, Great place, set up very well, hands on with a lot of stuff, Seeing how a steam train worked was fantastic, The first generation bullet train also, Well worth a visit, Great musuem .

As stated this venue is a Train Museum and very interesting even if you are not a train fanatic. I enjoyed seeing that several of the exhibits were made in the UK, namely Newcastle, Birmingham and Liverpool, remnants from the UK industrial revolution. The entrance is free and woven between the isles of the trains on exhibition are market stalls, selling anything from artisan food to railway memorabilia. Worth a visit, interesting history.

If you are in any way interested to see how fast technology moves forward, do visit this gem. An old railway station transformed into a museum with numerous exhibits. From working machines to modern transportation. It has everything. And to tickle your imagination further, a room with scaled models.

A must museum for train lovers. Good most of the descriptions were also available in English. Learnt a lot about trains history in Spain. Bit too commercial with all the selling trains stands though. Made it difficult visiting with our 2 years old.

  • 4/5 Gary T. 6 months ago on Google • 25 reviews
An enjoyable couple of hours and some interesting and unique exhibits. Much of the labelling has English too, which was thoughtful (and informative). I particularly enjoyed the cutaway steam engine and the light alloy Talgo 2 train, but theres something for anyone with even a passing interest in railways. I hadn't realised how early Spain had started using electric trains (the UK was very much a latecomer in comparison), nor that the railway gauge is different to much of the rest of Europe. A cafe would have been nice to take a break partway, but that's the only slight negative to a worthwhile visit.

The visit allows you to discover a complete collection of historical railway material, from vehicles (from locomotives to passenger wagons). ) to all kinds of pieces, elements, photographs or recreations that illustrate the different professions related to the railroad throughout its history. Different themed rooms allow visitors to take a journey through Spanish railway history. The museum also hosts temporary exhibitions and has various activities aimed at children and families, such as educational workshops, theatrical performances or circulations on garden trains. In addition, the cafeteria is installed in a beautiful restaurant car from 1930. The Railway Museum houses the Railway Historical Archive and the Railway Library and Newspaper Library, a unique complex in Spain whose main objective is the conservation, study and dissemination of railway heritage . I am a model train collector so this was a must for me to visit. It did not disappoint. I don't know if this is common, but the day we went there were tables set up and people were selling model trains. I model in 'O' scale and they were only selling 'HO' & 'N' & 'Z" scale. As for the displays? They are great. There is a good mix of locomotives and coaches. There was also some very interesting displays about maintenance and scheduling as well as the history of the station turned museum. A must see for the kid in all of us. There are few things more amazing then standing next to a 100 ton, 20 foot tall locomotive. Enjoy the view.

Great musuem! Exhibits were interesting and reflective of the age. I particularly enjoyed the small touches, like the luggage and luggage carts on the "platforms". My highlight though, were the models trains, made so much more enjoyable by the friendliness and knowledge of the operator, Alvaro, who made a very kind effort to accomodate me in English. Thank you for the enjoyable visit!

Nice museum with a lot of trains from different epochs. There is not enough information available in English, and probably they could add a bit more interactivity.

  • 4/5 Alberto L. 6 years ago on Google
Great experience if you are a rail fan! While it's all in Spanish, the equipment in the museum is fairly unique to Spanish railroads, though there are a few pieces that are not. Make sure to see the miniature train collection, very special pieces here. And it's always kid friendly and a great place to keep the kids entertained for a couple of hours.
