The Cibeles Fountain in Madrid is a magnificent and iconic landmark that embodies the city's grandeur and rich history. Situated at the intersection of some of the city's major thoroughfares, this stunning fountain has become an emblematic symbol of Madrid. It is a remarkable example of Neoclassical sculpture and architecture. The centerpiece of the fountain features the Greek goddess Cybele, symbolizing Earth, agriculture, and fertility, atop a chariot drawn by two lions. This allegorical representation is beautifully executed with intricate details and craftsmanship. Surrounding the central sculpture are several smaller fountains, adding to the overall aesthetic appeal. The entire ensemble is set against the backdrop of Madrid's historic buildings, creating a picturesque scene that blends the old and the new. One of the most remarkable aspects of the Cibeles Fountain is its role as a gathering place for celebrations and sporting victories. It has witnessed countless joyful moments as fans gather here to celebrate their favorite sports teams' successes. The fountain has become a symbol of unity and pride for the people of Madrid. Visiting the Cibeles Fountain is not only an opportunity to admire its artistic and architectural significance but also to soak in the vibrant atmosphere of this bustling city. Whether you're a tourist or a local, this fountain is a must-visit destination, offering a sense of connection to Madrid's history, culture, and the spirited enthusiasm of its residents.

It has a stunning view at night and tends to be crowded at all hours. This place is the heart of Madrid.

One of the main landmarks in Madrid. For the fountain, of course, but also because of the beautiful buildings around like the Ministry of Communications building. You'll certainly pass by Cibeles square so just stop for a few minutes and take some photos.

Beautiful fountain which, however, is totally overshadowed by the overwhelming presence of the quintessential post office building. It simply steals the show. One of the focal points of the city.

What a beautiful fountain. I was in wonder and just stood for some time admiring it's beauty. 18th century neoclassical fountain depicting the goddess Cybele on a chariot pulled by 2 lions. One of the city’s most famous landmarks, it depicts Cybele, the Great Mother of the gods and Roman goddess of fertility, atop a chariot drawn by two lions. It stands in the centre of the Plaza de Cibeles, the square to which it has lent its name and which marks the start of Madrid’s avenue of art, the Paseo del Arte.

Beautiful fountain, but it is in the middle of street, so it is impossible to access it.. you can only enjoy the view.

Spectacular statues in this fountain! You can only take photos across the street as it's in the centre of a roundabout. My guide told me this is where Real Madrid celebrate their wins...that would be cool to see!

No street dogs, no homeless hanging around no bandidos that we may feel a little unsafe. locals are very nice means sincere. Decent enough fountain and quite ornate monument but set in the middle of a busy roundabout so can’t get that close to it. Nice surrounding area.

One of the most beautiful plazas in Madrid. If you take the 203 Airport bus, this is the first point you get to see in Madrid city center. If you are staying in Sol, La Latina or Salamanca; they are all walking distance from Cibeles. Or; there are plenty of stops and busses right at the same location. Apart from the logistical benefits: the plaza is spectacular.

Cibeles refers to both a prominent square and a fountain in Madrid, Spain. 1. **Plaza de Cibeles (Cibeles Square):** This square is a significant landmark in Madrid, situated at the intersection of Calle de Alcalá, Paseo de Recoletos, and Paseo del Prado. It is known for its stunning architecture, including the iconic Palacio de Cibeles (Cibeles Palace), which serves as Madrid's City Hall. The square is a focal point for celebrations, events, and sports victories. 2. **Fuente de Cibeles (Cibeles Fountain):** The Cibeles Fountain is a majestic marble fountain located in the center of the square. It features the goddess Cybele, symbolizing Earth, agriculture, and fertility, riding a chariot pulled by lions. The fountain is a popular meeting point and a symbol of Madrid. Cibeles Square and Fountain hold cultural, historical, and symbolic significance and are must-visit attractions for anyone exploring Madrid.

Great place to experience the Transhumancia festival where the farmers lead their sheep through the centre of Madrid. Help annually in October.

Very nice. It's not crowded. A beautiful building. Unfortunately, because of the New Year, it was under the watch of the police, so it was not possible to get too close.

This lovely fountain features the Phrygian fertility goddess. This is the place where Real Madrid players and supporters celebrate their achievements.

The Cibeles fountain is part of the Cibeles park, it's not only the beauty of the fountain itself, but also the park, the flame, the communications building (referredby some as Palacio Cibeles), where's a terrific viewpoint of the area whether from the terrace of the Cibeles restaurant or the Cibeles bar, both located on the 6th floor. The neighborhood itself is beautiful. Don't miss it!

In my personal opinion, Madrid is home to numerous aesthetically pleasing fountains, but I find this particular one to be exceptionally captivating.

I visited it during day and it is too far away in the middle. You can't get close to it due to traffic. You can take pictures from far away. During night may be it looks better with all lights and less traffic.

Beautiful roundabout Stopping at the Plaza de Cibeles is a must do. Easy to see and close to Prado. In the summer many shops align the sidewalk with cute spanish items. If you are brave enough and have a wide angle lens pop to the middle of the circle for a unobstructed picture. Otherwise, time it right to eliminate the cars. Enjoy!

Always love it and it's just a short walk away from home 😊🙏🏻❤☝🏻Especially loved the snow tonight, it seems it's the largest fall since 2009. Have missed snow because I'm used to seeing it each winter))) So glad 😊

Madrid has the most incredibly gorgeous fountains, parks and architecture. Super safe to walk around at all times of day. Evenings are incredibly busy with people, the social mingling is integral to the culture... so pre dinner time social, lingering dinners, coffee... mean streets are packed with folks happy to be sharing life. Many fabulous museums, and just being surrounded by the historical buildings and statues and fountains everywhere was overwhelming! We loved Madrid! Restaurants are safely clean and food is diverse. Servers are very patient with non-Spanish speakers. Go and enjoy the rich life, history, and safe streets unlike any city in the US.

It a must for first time visitors!.. my favourite building in the city it's behind the fountain: the old post office building.. now it's the city hall

  • 5/5 Nuala G. 7 years ago on Google
Great views of the city from the top. The exhibitions on the different floors are also worth visiting. There is a good tourist shop on the first floor. There are also chill out areas with couches if you want to kill a little time in a relaxed atmosphere - with sockets to charge your phone etc.

Beautiful place amazing building historic site. It’s in the middle of the road it’s no easy access to it. It’s very difficult to take a picture of it. Unfortunately, I didn’t go inside. But outside picture worthy of it.

Amazing place in the middle of Madrid. Really nice to walk around and enjoy the night. It stands near a huge junction but the street is gorgeous and easy to walk through

Nice interior. Pay attention to the ceilings. Spectacular facade. You can access to the roof terrace and enjoy the views. There is also a restaurant at the mid level terrace

  • 5/5 Paul G. 1 year ago on Google
There's a lot going on round here. Cybele's is akin to Piccadilly Circus in London... Try getting to the centre if you dare. Upalong, amongst other museums of international repute, is the Museo del Prado and adjacent is the El Retiro. You could spend all day here and go nowhere.

  • 5/5 Nick St. G. 2 years ago on Google
Cool fountain of a lion-chariot in front of this more impressive government building. Hard to know a ton more about it as it continues the trend in Madrid of being smack-dab in the middle of a busy roundabout. Still give 5/5 stars due to the Warhammer vibes.
