A local gem! A true madridista experience with delicious desserts and hot chocolate. TRY THE SERRANO AND CHEESE CROISSANT, mouth watering. Sit upstairs and enjoy a true local experience (packed with tourists yes, but still local)

You have to be patient with the line (as it also moves fast). Take note that there is a separate line when ordering a cake (as I’ve learned that in an embarrassing way). Once inside, I highly recommend ordering the napolitana con crema! Or any other pastries because they’re all delicious.

Nice bakery place and a pretty wide selection of pastries and other sweet and savory bites. Always crowded and the overall space to move around isn't too big. Similarly, there's no tables and chairs to sit in so if you're having something to eat in, you'll be standing kind of in the style of bars.

We visited this patisserie, because the guide from the truth that we did in the city told us it’s considered to be one of the best in Madrid. I actually think it’s quite a simple place. I didn’t get to try a lot of the pastries but we did try to and they were good but not the best we ever had so I’m not sure I’m going to visit it again when I’m in Madrid, but if you wanna try some traditional pastries, I guess this is a good place to go.

Placing an order was quick. Paying took longer. Service kind of hectic. Only ate sweet stuff which was really good. Probably due to Covid rules several windows had to be open which resulted in sitting at the table with the jacket on.

Big lineups to enter the shop but ordering is quick once you get in. We didn't go to the cafe, just bought in the shop to take home. So many delicious items to choose from, all are incredibly fresh and wonderful. Staff are very helpful.

We took away some pastries due to too buzy to dine in. The pastries were ok. Nothing really special unfortunately.

I can't express how much of a tourist trap and delicious this bakery is. They're located on one of the most popular plazas in the country and get a lot of foot traffic. They create some of the most succulent and memorable pastries I've experienced. The bread is perfectly flakey, the chocolate is decadent, and the presentation is nothing but enticing. I can't wait to go back.

Must visit this place. Stopped for a quick pastry and coffee on our Madrid walk. Amazing pastries !! Don't miss the chocolate filled croissant ! A wide selection of cakes and chocolate also available!

An amazing and traditional bakery in the heart of Madrid closed to one of my favorite squares in the world: Puerta del Sol! Just go into the bakery and see it yourself! Making a choice is difficult due to the incredible variety of cakes, pastries and chocolates! Make your choice, take it away and enjoy it at Madrids Gate of the Sun.

There is probably too much hype about this bakery. The pastries were fine but I believe there can be better ones elsewhere. Maybe my expectation was raised too much from the long queue we saw and the good write-ups.

Traditional ‘must-visit’ pastry shop with old-fashioned windows and inside layout. The pastries were good, but not as delicious as expected, especially taking in account their reputation. We had to queue, but it moved quickly. Not really a ‘must-visit’ place in my opinion.

The line outside is what draws you to this beautiful patisserie in the center of Madrid. As soon as you walk in the smell of pastries is just mesmerizing and you have a multitude of options to choose from with various counters to service you to avoid long waits. I took some to go and some of the choices were the doughnut, the cream eclaire and the apple croissant. Definitely worth it and highly recommend if you have a sweet tooth. They also had some cute arranged boxes of small pastries or chocolates that you could take with you which would be perfect as gifts.

Always packed with people especially weekend. Classic style of bakery. Like it though. May be somewhat sweet comparing to modern bakery. But I do like it. Just annoyed with those elderly behind me who tried to cut the queue all the time and finally did it to me. Well cannot speak Spanish so don't know what to say. LOL!!!

Excellent! Pastries, came at 8:30 right before close. Took some things to go, things still looked really fresh. I asked the staff who was serving me and she recommended the bun filled with cream. I was just so light and fluffy and the cream was just so good. Took some other things to go. Definitely recommend stopping by this institution

The shop is busy as it can be ! Staff is overexposed by the flow of people ordering to go or having sweets on the spot. There is a small window on the side to order take away. You must know what you want as you won’t see the full display. I found the pastry ok nothing mind blowing Large selection of sweet

Extraordinary pastry shop with a wide range of truly irresistible products. Excellent breakfasts served upstairs with fast and friendly service. Excellent value for money. Absolutely recommended!

A fascinating and interesting pastelería, very busy when we went to buy some presents on a Friday evening at 7 pm. Luckily they have 3 counters, where each is dedicated to sandwiches & snacks, sweets & bonbons, and coffees etc. It’s a very busy shop and I’m sure the staff do extremely well to keep smiling through all the hustle and bustle. I managed to get a small packet of marron glacé for €11 which I thought was pretty reasonable.

It was recommended by our host (walking tour). I ordered a pastry that has cream inside. The cream or custard was good and it is too sweet, the outside is flaky. I went back Twice. They have people taking your orders. The wait is not long.

I visited here in 2014. It was so crowded, you can't find place to eat. Cakes are okay.

Good selection of pastries, cakes, baked goods, sandwiches, etc - the best I've had in the immediate Sol central area. They wrap up nicely to go.

For some of the freshest pastries and a proper stand-at-the-bar, devour your pastry and quickly enjoy your coffee kind of experience, this is the place. The torijas was incredible. Don’t walk, run here.

Been there three times by now, trying to figure out the secret of this place. Oreo milkshake is my favorite so far. Other than that, I don’t really find anything that is impressive. But I would recommend to pay a visit just for experience. Also, I think the torrijas they have is a bit disappointing.

DELICIOUS! We stopped in for a quick breakfast and everything we got was delicious! They are crowded and do not have places to sit. They do have counter space, but if that is full you might have to take it to go. Definitely worth a visit. We wish we went every of our stay in Madrid.

Fine bakery, VERY busy in the morning. Have to wait a lot to be served and the staff has no minute to take your order and get you the bill. Merliton is tasty, crispy tart with smooth egg filling.

I wouldn’t recommend their croissants and most of the pastries, there are cheaper and better places to get those. You could probably even find a better croissant at a grocery store. But they do have a fair amount of wonderful cakes that are unique to their shop that you can purchase by the slice. I particularly like their strawberry shortcake; the whipped cream is refreshing and for the quality of the ingredients and amount of fruit it’s not bad at €3/slice (20€ for the whole cake). Their red velvet is also good. The only reason I hesitate to buy from here sometimes is because there are a few shop attendants that can be rude and package the cakes sloppily. I feel that premium bakery prices should at least entail a solid box packaged with care. I speak Spanish when I come here but most of them are not very good with English or tourists.

Very popular place so very crowded but cheap, delicious pastries. We went back again later for more!

(Translated by Google) One of the most illustrious, traditional patisseries in Madrid, is located in Sol. Normally it has two queues, one to enter where you have to wait a long time, although it moves quickly and the other is sold quickly. It has a great variety of sweets, pastries, chocolates, etc. Everything goes by weight.

(Translated by Google) One of the oldest Spanish sweets and bakery shops in the area.. Very crowded and even locals visit it and there is coffee inside The decor is great, the staff are friendly, and the baked goods are ready from the oven Not everyone knows how to translate, but with Google Voice Translate it works fine 👍🏻 A must pass if you are in the area (Original)

(Translated by Google) Without a doubt a tourist place but it is worth it. Eat breakfast. We were at the bar and the experience was just as pleasant. I recommend going around 9 in the morning since you don't have to stand in such a long line to get in. We order the Galician empanada and it is really worth trying it, you will not regret it. And the rich Neapolitan ones but they gave us something cold. So if you are going to get to know Madrid, this point to start the tour is fantastic. And then you take the opportunity to take photos in the Plaza del Sol.
