I got a double room just for myself but i found the room barely large enough to fit my suitcase opened up, i had to move the chair aside and open the suitcase on the floor tucked under the desk. Now imagine if this was a double room for two people - you definitely won't be able to have both suitcases open. I found it laughable that they provided a foldaway suitcase table because even that was too big for the room. Having said all this, I was still happy with the quality of the accommodation, clean room and bathroom, very well kitted out. The location is superb, close to night life and shops. The buffet breakfast is also worth getting off you want a traditional western breakfast as no other place in the area will serve breakfast like this (eggs, toast, etc) as there are mainly sushi/ramen shops around and most don't open till 10am anyway, so you're better off getting the breakfast at the hotel.

Beware unsafe and worst service. Be careful when booking this hotel as they do not accept children even though they allow booking children via online apps. We were refused to check-in and had to find available hotels which are mostly booked already and costs twice as much. The staff were not helpful and just wanted us to leave instead of offering other hotels or any help at all given that we were with toddlers. Also, the location in front is very bad as homeless people and dangerous people are loitering around drinking, lying on the floor with their trash all around, Smelled so bad with piss. Not great at all. A must-avoided hotel and location. We had to walk kilometers to find a decent hotel. There are more decent locations with better view than this.

We recently stayed at the Shinjuku APA Hotel, and regretfully, we must advise others to seek alternative accommodations. This was without a doubt the worst hotel we’ve stayed in throughout our entire trip in Japan. The room was extremely small, leading to a cramped and uncomfortable experience. Additionally, the absence of a warm toilet seat was a surprising and unwelcome discomfort. A significant drawback was the noise level. The hotel’s central location did little to mitigate the loud street noise, especially over the weekends. The area outside the hotel was very messy and extremely dirty. Most disturbingly, one of the morning we witnessed a man openly urinating outside the hotel, a shocking sight that spoke volumes about the lack of order in the vicinity. In summary, our stay at the Shinjuku APA Hotel was far from satisfactory. For anyone looking for a comfortable and serene experience in Tokyo, we strongly recommend considering other lodging options.

Reconsider booking this hotel. They cut corners to save money and do not make any effort to better their guests experience. The windows have no soundproofing so good luck getting a good night sleep in this busy area. When addressing this concern to the management they had little to no care in my concerns. They make check out time 10 am which any other place I've stayed was 11 or 11:30. No good Apa hotels try better next time.

We really enjoyed our stay here. We did a last minute trip to Japan, and we were able to get 2 rooms. Recommend the 2 twin for 2 adults. Our teenage girls were able to do the double room. Staff is nice and helpful. The rooms are clean and come with everything you need and more. They are small but totally doable. If you have alot of luggage it may be a tight squeeze. The area outside the hotel is a little questionable but we never felt frightened by the people. Plenty of shops and convenient stores around. Overall great stay!

The staff here is extremely rude with foreigners. If you want to be treated as garbage, come here. The staff at the front desk treated me very rudely. They pretended not to understand nor speak English and over all are lacking basic customer service skills. Very rude service. All I wanted to ask if I can add breakfast to my booking, they were pretending they don’t understand and couldn’t do anything. All I wanted is to add breakfast to my booking - all I heard that I can’t do it and was treated extremely badly. Never had such a bad experience in Japan. I wish they had not only English training but general politeness in customer service. I lived for 3 years in Japan and was never treated so bad.

Great location, cozy rooms, and good service. These rooms have everything you need to spend your holidays. Each morning, the staff replenishes your essentials and towels, which is great if you go to the onsen every evening. The onsen is open until late, so you can enjoy it even after spending the whole day exploring the city. There is only the indoor onsen, but pretty cool anyway. Breakfast is superb! Everything is freshly made, and there's plenty of choices. I suggest you go early in the morning because it gets crowded very fast. Check-in and check-out were very easy, and it's super handy to have the possibility to leave your luggage there until you check in. Highly recommended

Borders the red light district. Paid $120 for one night for a small room with no common amenities. Room was clean and very practical. Bathroom had lots of toiletries and front desk staff is helpful. I will try a capsule hotel sincev the bed size is the same and they have more amenities

I was a solo traveler and got the twin bed room. It's Japan, everything is going to be a tight fit, but everything is super clean and felt nice and polished. Bathroom was awesome. Onsen on the top floor was nice. Big thing it has going for it is the location right next to the Warp nightclup if you plan on clubbing past the time trains would be shut down. Plus, it has some separation from the streets with the African guys trying to get you into seedy bars.

I had a very bad experience here. The receptionist looked at me discriminately because my clothes were not of high value. My husband moved out right after knowing that I asked the receptionist for help and they refused.

The entire experience has been hassle-free. Check in was a breeze and the staff is very helpful. The rooms are modestly sized and priced. Smoking rooms available. The bed is comfortable and clean. Can't speak to the location as I'm a foreigner and it's all new to me but it wasn't hard to find the place and is proving convenient for my trip.

Great location right in the middle of shinjuku. I'm staying on the 21st floor so can't comment on whether the noise outside is a problem. Rooms are small but comfortable. It's humid but there's a dehumidifier which works a treat. Breakfast was standard and not bad at all. Overall the hotel was pretty great value for money, especially for the location. There are no washing facilities for clothes but the staff were happy to take my laundry and returned it washed and dried later in the day. The staff are friendly and speak great English on the whole. I'd definitely stay here again, great hotel for the cheap and cheerful traveller.

Great location, room decent. Kinda small, but OK for two people. The guests next door tried to put three people in their room and ended up taking out the essential stuff from their suitcase and leaving their suitcase outside their door... So don't expect to put large amounts of luggage in your room. Overall acceptable lodging that I would stay at again

I've been to Japan 3 times and stayed in many parts of the country before including Tokyo. This was the worst hotel I've stayed at before, in Japan. Cleanliness: The bedding had blood on it. Yes, you read that correctly. It was dried blood and it wasn't a small amount. We asked for an extra blanket and we were given one, but it was the most uncomfortable scratchy blanket I've ever had in a hotel before. Overall the whole room had a musty smell as soon as we walked in and many surfaces were covered in dust. There were some hairs in the bed and the carpet was filthy. Size: The hotel rooms in Japan are known for being extremely small (keep this in mind if you've never been to Japan before). But the rooms at this hotel are on another level - there was no space for our bags (it was only myself and one other person in the room). We had to climb over our bags in the tiny walkway to get to the bed. Noise: The location is a big party area, but you can definitely hear the noise from the main area at night. It was not a big issue for us but if you are a light sleeper it will be a problem. Elevator Issues: You are not allowed to use the stairwells in this hotel at all unless there's a serious emergency and the alarm will sound. So you are forced to use elevators. However, it took us 30 minutes to get downstairs in the morning (that is not an exaggeration). Because there are so many people checking out at the same time using elevators. There is a warning about this on the TV when you get in the room but we were not aware of this at all before booking. I would not have booked this place if I knew this ahead of time. Essentially if you try to leave your room between 8-10 AM or 2-3 PM you will literally have to wait 30 minutes for an elevator. My advice: The kabukicho area of Shinjuku is a great place for nightlife and good food. You might be tempted to stay at this hotel because the location is amazing, you're right next to 2 nightclubs for example and tons of restaurants. But you can pay the same amount of money and stay at a Mystays a few blocks away (there are many better hotels in the area within walking distance, just do that instead).

Beware, this hotel is literally smack bang in the middle of the red light district. We stayed 2 nights before we got sick of stepping over homeless just to get into the reception, and avoiding punch ups between drunken party goers literally just outside the lobby. Unfortunately for this hotel it's location is to date the worst place I've been in Tokyo. Rooms are so small we were constantly climbing over our luggage just to move around. The shower/bathroom is effectively a portable station made from plastic that they have retrofitted into the room. Foreigners need to be mindful that the staff speak very limited English however like most hotels in Japan there is automatic check in/out stations at the desk which practically do it all for you. However if you have any enquiries outside the normal you may struggle. In saying this staff are courteous and do try to facilitate you. Overall, if this area is where you want to be (for obvious reasons) then it's is smack bang in the middle of the action. But I would not recommend bringing children here or coming here to experience any sort of culture outside of alcoholism, debauchery, and drunken violence.

While this location is located centrally in Shinjuku, the front courtyard area is usually covered in litter and loitering homeless. The hotel rooms are small which is fine for Japan standards but the washroom was not very clean. Mould/Musty smell and lots of mildew all over. Elevators were clean but the hotel does warn that hotels are busy at checkout and will result in big time waits. I wouldn’t say this hotel was kid friendly due to the red light district and all the activities happening outside. Any arcades and claw machine stores were closed to children under 16 after 6PM. Early check in is not possible unless you pay 1000 yen an hour.

The rooms are fine. Bed is comfortable, plenty of room to keep your suitcase out of the way. I was on the 22nd floor and could still hear what was happening on the street below late into the night. Convenient to Shinjuku station, restaurants, shopping, etc.

Whilst the rooms are tiny, they are well equipped. Unfortunately, our stay was very noisy as our room opened onto a square where people were passing through at all hours of the night. This hotel is centrally located and only a short walk from Shinjuku station, which was excellent after catching the Narita Express. We would only recommend this hotel for a very short stay.

Very clean, great location, close to the train station and shopping. This is located in the red light district, so lots of bars and other "unsavory" businesses. The square outside the hotel gets loud and dirty at night, but they do a remarkable job of cleaning up in the daytime hours. The rooms at the hotel are very small, but we were expecting it. Just enough room for my husband and I and all our luggage. You end up sort of climbing over each other. There is no closet, just coat hooks and a few hangers. The water pressure in the shower is amazing, there's no running out of hot water, either! All in all I would definitely recommend this to a friend - just maybe not one with kids.😉

I’ve stayed in a lot of APA hotels. This one is the worst so far. Every fixture has spots of black mold. The ventilation is bad, you can smell it and feel it in the air. You can’t open the windows ofc. Also, even on the top floors, the rooms are loud. You can hear everything on the street. The location and view from the rooms are nice tho. And the roof top bath is kind of nice, you can smell korean bbq from the outdoor bath. Probably will not book here again, but one of the many other APA in kabukicho.

Location is good for partying, but there are many homeless people outside. Tiny room, no ventilation or air conditioning for part of my stay. Zero English speaking staff

  • 1/5 J S. 6 months ago on Google
Let me preface this with this is the worst hotel I've ever stayed at in Japan. I come to Japan often on a regular basis and have stayed many places. I will never use an APA hotel in the future. The rooms DO NOT have Air Conditioning. I called the front desk and asked for someone to check my air conditioning. The front desk responded as if they were going to send someone up. 10 minutes later I call back and someone else answers. "only hot" Next, the room windows do not open to help cool off the room. This should be an immediate deal breaker. Trying to sleep in a muggy room on vacation is nobodies idea of a pleasant time. There is absolutely no reason this should be acceptable by any hotel that considers itself a quality stay. The location is Kabukicho square. That being said anyone familiar with the area should expect to see many homeless people outside of the hotel and be harassed at every intersection by non-japanese "club promoters"/scammers. I expected this but it's extremely annoying to get harassed by these scammers to go into night clubs when I'm just trying to find dinner. Leading up to check in I kept getting emails saying that I needed to call the hotel and let them know if I would be arriving late otherwise my reservation would be cancelled. I called and let them know what time I would arrive. Then I continued to get these emails as if nobody made note of it. I showed up and half expected to not have a room reservation anymore. Oh and 10am checkout. Nothing is open at 10am in Japan. They may as well be kicking you out on the street with the homeless. Terrible stay. Never again.

Nice place to stay if you are travelling on a budget. The staff are very kind and helpful. Stayed in a single room with a larger bed (since the rooms can be a bit tight) which was well kept and clean with some toiletries provided. Only thing to be aware of is that it can be a bit noisy from the outside at night sometimes. Located in the heart of Kabukicho, it is about a 10 - 15 minute walk from Shinjuku station; or if you do not want to walk the extra distance, you can transfer to the Seibu-Shinjuku line which leaves you 2 minutes away from the hotel. The breakfast in the cafe below is a buffet with options that change every couple of days. It is good but at some other APA hotels it has been a bit better. Will probably stay in an APA hotel the next time I visit Japan.

The room is tiny and old. The windows CANNOT be opened for natural fresh air and ventilation even if you call the front desk to request for it. Although I visited in January (during winter), I was expecting there to be air con because I really can’t sleep in the heat or in a warm environment. I asked the front desk for a fan or a portable air cooler to help me sleep through the night, but the front desk said they do not provide these services. They suggested that I leave the door open and said there was no other option. The room isn’t cancellable either because I booked it through agoda. While I hate the room, I enjoyed the public bath on level 28 that is open for hotel guests to use till 12 midnight. I believe other hotels have public baths that are equally amazing so I would advise you to look elsewhere and not consider this hotel. The response and non existent service provided by the front desk with regard to my compliant of the warm room was far from acceptable. The staff are mostly very poor in English, so you will face problems communicating with them. Don’t even try this hotel. Move on and consider other options.

The room was quite tight but I guess it is quite common in Japan. The location however was great, quite central and very good if you enjoy nightlife!

Small room, a little too small for 2 people. The location is great and the staff is really friendly. Great cleaning service as well. If you're earlier than the check in time you can still check in with an additional payment.

The hotel is a good bargain in good location. The plunge warm pools are a nice feature. I don’t like the 10 am check-out and 3 pm check-in Rooms are clean and well equipped

The hotel is located right at the center of the red light district in Shinjuku, so it may be ideally for someone and may not for the rest. If you are single and want to be part of the "activities", then "everything" is just a few steps away. Just walk out to any direction, make any left/right turn and you will see several boy/girl clubs. From early evening to after midnight you will see young people smoking, drinking and throwing empty cans/bottles all around. Again, you may like it. But for family traveling with kids like us, it's our mistake to book a hotels in this location. The room is very small. If you come in with 2 rolling carryons, you may open only one at a time else you would have to jump over them twice to get through. The bed is very soft, may not be ideally for people who sleep on a firm mattress. Other than that, excellent help from staffs when you need.

  • 4/5 Chris F. 10 months ago on Google
My stay was quite pleasant after a long haul flight into Tokyo. The area it’s situated in is clearly a night-life area but other than that I was happy with the hotel. The room was adequate and the front staff had kept my mail for me in time for checkin which was fantastic.

  • 4/5 Jason W. 4 years ago on Google
Foreigner friendly. They speak your language, whatever it is. Rooms are just about what you'd expect in Japan. Small, but functional. The mattresses are comfortable, but the pillows are somewhat lacking. There is a nice public bath on the top floor that is free to guests. The breakfast is somewhat lacking, but gets the job done. The view of the Shinjuku skyline from the higher rooms is one of the biggest reasons to stay here. About a 10 minute walk to the Shinjuku station, as long as you don't get lost in the station.

  • 3/5 Chanel H. 9 months ago on Google
The room and bathroom is small, but clean and smoke free. Toothbrush is of surprisingly good quality. Level 28 has an onsen (separately for men and women). The onsen is small but otherwise fine. The bathroom includes all the normal amenities plus washcloth, which seems to be normal in Japanese hotels. The front desk staff are slightly unfriendly. As it's in the red light district, at night there will be many girls in maid costume lining the street. There are many host and hostess bars in the area, and many young people getting drunk at night. It can get rowdy and noisy. But there are many security officers there as well so safety isn't a huge concern.

The location is perfect. On a main street, close to multiple trains, convenience stores, and close to the nightlife of Shinjuku. Easy access and a lot of Good restaurants and cafe surroundings. However, Rooms are definitely small - you can barely open your suitcase.

  • 4/5 Te Li Dennis T. 6 years ago on Google
The hotel was great. It was large enough to fit in two large luggage and still be able to move around. The hotel gave too many towels though. They are trying to be green but give new towels ever day when we didn't want them and had to return it each day. Checking in was smooth but when asking for help to make reservations for places like restaurants was a bit hard because if the person isn't strong in speaking English then they won't help but those that could help did.

  • 5/5 Merlin M. 4 years ago on Google
Really comfortable for a lone traveler. The rooms are small but well organized with plenty of room for luggages. The view from the 21st floor and above is quite beautiful. The beds are comfortable, the bathrooms small but clean, and the services are outstanding. The onsen on the top floor is really a wonderful experience, expecially the one on the outside. Only minor issue is the lack of a laundry inside the hotel, but there are plenty of laundromats in the surrounding area. The personnel has been incredibly polite and nice. The area is quite lively but the rooms are nice and quiet. Will surely come back.

Nice location except for the incredibly dirty (homeless people) place in front of it. Definitely not a typical sight even for Tokyo. Breakfast is not recommended, the coffee at the convenience store was better. The spa area is tiny for such a huge hotel and did not provide even towels. The lobby has no seating whatsoever. It was just super handy to put my parents in here as it's one block away from the Seibu Shinjuku line. Would not recommend for any other reason.

  • 3/5 Krista V. 5 years ago on Google
Super convenient location! The room and bathroom is very small and difficult to even open a large piece of luggage in the room. However, it is kept very clean! The bed was comfortable but the pillow was a joke. Only one inch thick foam, like a chair cushion. We didn’t have the breakfast so I can’t comment on that. The staff were all very nice and friendly. The elevators are so slow and small, it is always packed. We had an issue with a terrible smell coming from the drain in the bathroom that woke us up in the middle of the night.

I love Apa, because it is standardized. I do not have to worry about nasty surprise. However this time some amenities are imperfect. namely, broken hair band and lack of water in the room on the first day.
