Beautiful, remote and chill place. We were there just for lunch but also got to experience a beach walk. The beach is private and you can have fun without the usual distrubance you get at most beaches due to hawkers trying to sell you goods and/or services. However, the food we ordered took over an hour to be served and the kalamari we ordered was under cooked. The place relies on passive natural cooling, no fans or ACs, especially at the restaurant. This would explain the smell of sweat coming from the waitors serving food as they closely interact with you. Other than that i think it's a very decent place.

It’s insane that white Europeans pay over $100 per night to sleep in a wooden hut with no doors, no windows, no airconditioning and a bucket of fresh water for washing (cockroaches, mosquitoes and other insects included). In the morning, there were two types of animal footprints around my house - a dog/cat and what staff told me was a rat. At night, there was a bird/bat flying over my bed. In a different country such a primitive house with no basic comfort would be considered “budget accommodation”. But in Kenya, tourists are paying crazy $$$ for the privacy of a remote beach. The staff were moody. I asked a waiter at the restaurant to recommend me a good dish, and he told me “You can just read the menu”. The food was expensive and very simple, “home cooking” level with no flavour. Fruits were served with their skin on in the fruit platter. I stayed here for two nights, so had two dinners and a lunch and all dishes were unremarkable, compared to food I had in Diani and Lamu. The place gets packed during lunch-time with day visitors, who get a free sun bed if they buy lunch. And I think it’s the best way to experience this place - come here for a few hours, pay for an overpriced lunch and get complimentary access to the beach and lounges. Sleeping here is a waste of money - with all the heat from outside and animals making noises.

We had the most amazing weekend here! Fantastic food, very relaxing atmosphere, the beach is gorgeous. Quiet and serene. The perfect place to getaway from your kids but also the perfect place to take your kids. We enjoyed adventuring out into the surrounding dunes, absolutely stunning, as well as enjoyed a taster Kite surf course! It's one of our favourite places in Kenya!

We only went for dining, and therefore had to rate the rooms out of what I've heard and pictures. The service was quick, attentive and very friendly. Much more casual than we expected in a place considered "exclusive", but that suits us very well. Maybe a bit to quick, when it came to clean up the table, but the friendliness and smiles balanced that. The food was good. Definitely above average standard. But there's some small "buts"; The salad following but the Calamari and the Red Snapper, was fresh but honestly boring. No condiments or flavorings. The grounded pepper and bowl of lime saved it though. The Calamari was a bit "rubber-like", not as tender as we prefer it, but still better than most. The fish was a bit to much fried, and had become a bit dry instead of juicy. But also better than most places. The red onion confiture was really good, but unfortunately frozen... Luckily Mambrui is hot, so it was ready to eat quite quickly. The mango salsa was nice, but the mangoes was almost going over in fermenting. I general i consider the food as simple but well prepared, though lacking small improvements that could have lifted it up to excellent. For the order of it; I'm a picky chef, with more than 40 years on the business, and not easy to please. Still I was overall pleased, just pointing out the things that could make it even better. We will definitely be back.

We stayed at CheShale for a week during our honeymoon, and we couldn't have asked for a more authentic and romantic place on the Kenyan coast. We were barefoot for an entire week 🧘‍♀️ and had some amazing, fresh seafood. The beach was huge, clean, silent (perfect if you, like us, hate loud music in public spaces) and we almost had it all for ourselves, as there are no other resorts around.

Che Shale is a rare and special place. It's set on the most stunning beach which is covered in 'fools gold'. Miles of tranquil walking on the empty beach, with mellow entertainment watching local fisherman or the kite surfers. The rooms are super comfy with an authentic vibe. We ate like kings and were beautifully looked after by Justin & Gussy and their team. Nothing was too much trouble and they organised a 24 hour bush trip for us at Kulalu Camp where we saw masses of game. We will be back!

We had a great meal at the restaurant with our family as a part of our daily trip. Great selection of meals and very nice natural design of the restaurant. We traveled with a driver and we wanted him to have a food and drinks on us. When the waiter brought us a bill they asked us to only pay his drink with the card and his food with cash. His food was the most expensive from all of us so we were happy he had a good meal. However when we talked to him, he told us that they only give him a small plate with some fish and rice. He was shocked himself about the price they charged us and we couldn’t help but to think that the waiter purposefully overcharged us and took the money for himself. This is obviously not a fault of the restaurant, but there is clearly a practice going on. We really wanted to treat our driver well and we were very disappointed that this happened. Let this review be a note to the owners and management to make sure this will not keep happening. Otherwise I would still recommend this restaurant.

A wonderful place with sand that appears to have metallic flakes in it. The food was excellent and the crab dishes are highly recommendable. We loved the stay and so did the kids.

Make sure you have a good vehicle, getting there is a challenge. Unless your white person you will experience discrimination from the gate man and waiters.

Fantastic remote chill out place, laid-back and easy going. We stayed 10 days in the hotel during new years. It was already our second time. It very much feels like home. Food is tasty, the beach is pretty and empty and we had good wind for kite surfing. Again, Justin and Gussy and their staff did a fabulous job with their hospitality.

Great chill out place, with a traditional African look. Staff were friendly and efficient l. I was hoping for a great crab lunch given that it is a place that breeds crabs but the soft crab portion I ordered was quite small. Hope you can look into that.

If you're into sustainability, nature, and places with a small environmental foot-print, this is the destination for you! Enjoy relaxing views and sounds of the crystal clear Indian Ocean at Che Shale - where you'll be spoilt for choice when it comes to their vast crab menu. The boiled crab was absolutely delicious - served in the shell (cracked) simply with garlic butter for maximum enjoyment of the delicate crab meat. The claws were meaty and gigantic! Built entirely from locally sourced materials (didn't see any concrete) this makuti thatched, mangrove poled and mkeka floored getaway is truly an eco-friendly experience that combines awesome views, funky music, a chilled vibe and delicious food! Definitely one to repeat!

It's like a paradise although it is difficult to access. All sand and everything is so some you should not expect the coolest furniture and fittings. Tends towards a traditional African setting. The beach is very clean with no sea weeds. The Dhow excursion with Captain Bongo and crew is a must have, so make time for it.

Perfect little getaway - a hidden gem. Absolutely the place for you if you want to unwind and enjoy the beauty of the coast - plus some pretty good watersport activities available. Lunches probably the standout highlight of each day.

Was meeting friends for afternoon and evening drinks. The drinks service was so sporadic that I had to switch from cocktails to bottle services. Our friends were having dinner on the beach. It seemed to take forever to set up and the children fell asleep before dinner was served. I didn't eat but when the food finally came, they all said it was divine!!

One of the most beautiful, charming and relaxed places to stay on the East Kenyan coast, on one of the best Kite surfing beaches in Africa. Family run by Justin & Gussy with original wooden and thatched bandas discreetly positioned close to the beach, superb food and cocktails and helped by a charming and most efficient team of helpers, including the excellent kite surfing instructor Omar.
