It’s
insane
that
white
Europeans
pay
over
$100
per
night
to
sleep
in
a
wooden
hut
with
no
doors,
no
windows,
no
airconditioning
and
a
bucket
of
fresh
water
for
washing
(cockroaches,
mosquitoes
and
other
insects
included).
In
the
morning,
there
were
two
types
of
animal
footprints
around
my
house
-
a
dog/cat
and
what
staff
told
me
was
a
rat.
At
night,
there
was
a
bird/bat
flying
over
my
bed.
In
a
different
country
such
a
primitive
house
with
no
basic
comfort
would
be
considered
“budget
accommodation”.
But
in
Kenya,
tourists
are
paying
crazy
$$$
for
the
privacy
of
a
remote
beach.
The
staff
were
moody.
I
asked
a
waiter
at
the
restaurant
to
recommend
me
a
good
dish,
and
he
told
me
“You
can
just
read
the
menu”.
The
food
was
expensive
and
very
simple,
“home
cooking”
level
with
no
flavour.
Fruits
were
served
with
their
skin
on
in
the
fruit
platter.
I
stayed
here
for
two
nights,
so
had
two
dinners
and
a
lunch
and
all
dishes
were
unremarkable,
compared
to
food
I
had
in
Diani
and
Lamu.
The
place
gets
packed
during
lunch-time
with
day
visitors,
who
get
a
free
sun
bed
if
they
buy
lunch.
And
I
think
it’s
the
best
way
to
experience
this
place
-
come
here
for
a
few
hours,
pay
for
an
overpriced
lunch
and
get
complimentary
access
to
the
beach
and
lounges.
Sleeping
here
is
a
waste
of
money
-
with
all
the
heat
from
outside
and
animals
making
noises.
