Such a great pleasant surprise! The little old Toll House is absolutely a gem coffee house next to the river! We had the opportunity to try those amazing croissants (so yummy), the cheese twist (do not miss), Kent crisps (delicious), local ice cream (fab chocolate flavour) and last but not least the coffees… believe me; if you are either a foodie, or lover of great flavours, you going to love everything that this small coffee shop has to offer! The personnel is amazing; friendly, with a smile, prepared a really great coffee experience. The spot; ideal, enjoying your coffee or tea, under a tree, next to water… 9,5/10

A lovely place to stop and relax and enjoy a cuppa or a bite to eat. Our dog loves it too for the treats and the Dog ice-cream. Staff really friendly. Can highly recommend!

Fantastic place to stop for coffee and a snack if out walking or mountain bike riding like I was today. Had a flat white - was excellent as was the sausage roll. This will now be my preferred mid ride stop for this route. Blankets available with outside seating so you can enjoy a coffee even on those chillier days. Stopped by again a few days after this review mid ride. Coffee and steak pasty excellent. Really pleasant place to rest for a while by the river. PS be sure to look out for the bold as brass Robin who likes to snack on cake crumbs etc! June 2022 update - seats and chairs upgraded - this place continues to impress!

An absolute gem of a place right by the lock and situated technically on an island. 2 cream teas, massive portion of clotted cream, lovely fruited scone (which I prefer), comfy seating. Yes, the weather helped as well, but the ladies serving were so friendly too. Just the perfect spot for a pit stop.

A favourite place to walk to, have a coffee and chill. It’s a perfect location, friendly staff and high quality food. For such a tiny place they do amazingly well. I’ve introduced many people to this little gem. The dog biscuits are genius. My dog won’t walk past without joining the queue for her biscuit so our furry friends approve too!!

A beautiful little place to stop. We had the cream tea. The scone was perfect, warm & not dry. The blueberry muffin was delicious too.

What a beautiful little place to stop on the river, truly the friendliest and helpful owner with beautiful snacks and drinks, I have no idea why anyone would choose to walk by here and go to Malta Inn if you’re just after a quick bite and a drink. Really enjoyed our time here today and cannot wait to go back!

Decided to pop here one lunchtime after a walk along the river, seeing all the good reviews it has, and we were so glad we did! It's a lovely little hut serving food, cakes, coffees and much more. We also picked up a pup-cup for our dog which was really good and came with a chunky biscuit he loved! There is also water available for dogs too. There are a number of outside tables available but it can get quite busy so best to go early. We had some of their chocolate cake and it was really good! The staff were so friendly too, we will be back.

Absolutely beautiful team room! They even decorated it up for the platinum Jubilee which was lovely. Menu options are fabulous and was pleasantly suprised at all the vegan options on the menu. Fab! Best tea I have had in ages!

What a great find on our walk along the Medway. Lovely sausage roll, fresh out the oven cinnamon roll and coffee. Lovely people too and snacks for your dog. Deckchairs with cushions or blankets available but tables and chairs as well. A lovely place to sit and relax.

Lovely little spot on the side of the river to grab a coffee. Super friendly staff, dog blankets, the promise of soup and a piece of cake too 🙂

What a find! We were out paddle boarding and were not expecting much from the little coffee shop - but we were really pleasantly surprised! Really extensive menu for such a little place - including LOADs of vegan options and treats for dogs. In top of that - the service was so friendly - We will definitely be back.

We visited The Little Old Toll House a couple of times and really loved it. The pasties and pies are delicious, great ice cream and the best milkshakes ever! Also good vegan options. It's in a beautiful location on the lock, really pretty and peaceful. Staff are really friendly too. It's just a really cool place!

Stopped for a drink after checking in with the lock keeper. Nice friendly staff. There’s a Seating area and great views of the river and lock. Nice stop off place on foot, bike or boat .

Delightful little cafe in a great location, with views of the river. A great selection of food and drink (good vegan options!), and very friendly staff. There was some seating, and also a selection of picnic blankets for you to use. Top option for those with dogs too (doggy ice cream, anyone?)

5 stars across the board. This is a great place to go to have a coffee and cake, meet others, walk or cycle to, or for literally anything! Wide selection of food and drink available and I would definitely recommend due to the many walking/cycling routes you can take to get there!

Lovely little cafe with a new gazebo area for seating down by the river. Food's always excellent, with snacks for dogs available as well (our Mini Dax loves the pup cup & biscuit), and the staff are friendly and welcoming. Great spot for a quick treat on a weekend!

I've been coming here for a couple years now. My favourite thing to do is walk along the river and get a drink at the toll house. Staff are very friendly and you can tell it's popular with locals: especially ramblers, cyclists and dog walkers. They make a surprising amount of food and drink options considering their size: many teas, cakes, pastries, coffees and more, with plenty of gluten free and vegan options too. Love their eco ethos and using local suppliers. It's lovely to see their growth and success. Only criticism is that it would be great if they would add sandwiches to their menu but pastries are also nice.
