An absolute gem hidden in the Kent countryside. Our 2 night stay from start to finish was fantastic. The rooms are spotless with all the facilities you need, the food is fabulous, a,great choice for breakfast, all freshly cooked and the meal we had on Friday was delicious ,even providing me with gluten free bread for my moules. The staff are outstanding, whatever we asked for was given with a smile. We were attending an event at Leeds Castle and stupidly had not booked a taxi to fetch us back, not a problem as,one of the receptionists offered to pick us up after her shift, what an absolute star. You will not be disappointed staying at this beautiful pub full of history and intrigue. We will definitely be back

After a long trip we originally found this place on a third party website. As we were driving by we decided to go directly in and ask for a price for a room. They say book direct for the best price. The lady behind reception gave us a price of £100 which was higher than booking through the third party website which was £94. It’s a few quid here or there. However, the lady must have thought I was a fool and tried telling me that it wasn’t cheaper for me to book through a third party. Well clearly it would have been and they would have also ended up paying fees to the third party (approx 15%). They would have received around £80 for the booking. It’s a shame because everything else was fabulous! The rooms are so cosy and the food was delicious! Perfect for an overnight stay after a long drive.

Wonderful location, great service. Food was just alright (and prices are elevated). Side with my side dish had way too much salt in it, tasted briny; prawn cocktail did not taste or smell fresh. Otherwise, food was just OK.

What a lovely place. We stayed over in one of the 34 chalet rooms they have on site. The room was clean, warm and comfortable. This was an evening out with friends and a stop over. The pub was busy throughout the afternoon but we found a table and enjoyed a few pre dinner drinks. The table was for 7pm and we were allowed to keep it as we were staying. Dinner was absolutely lovely and nicely priced. Service was excellent and it was refreshing to be attended to, but not intruded upon. We absolutely recommend that you try this dark horse of an eatery. 10/10

What a find. We only stayed one night but wish it had been more. It was a stop off from travelling from France back to Wales. We had a lovely welcome and our room was excellent. All that we needed. Lovely tea tray with choice of drinks and biscuits. Our evening meal was soooo filling and delicious. The staff were welcoming and great at anticipating our needs. We had the best night's sleep. Breakfast was so tasty too. All freshly cooked. Will definitely return .

The pub and staff were absolutely first class from taking the booking to checkout. Lovely pub bar with open log fire, wide selection of ales and lagers as well as gins and even dessert wine! Our lodge, Primrose was lovely, great shower too. Our evening meal in the restaurant was spot on and waiting staff fantastic. This theme was carried on at breakfast, lovely being an understatement. We will definitely go there again and recommend to friends.

First I will say, the staff are very friendly. BUT, the restaurant needs something done. 2 of us, staying for the night....Cost us £270 for a nights stay with food... Evening meal we ordered 2 starters, but only one came. Had to go and chase the waitress (whos mind was somewhere else) for the other. Not good start to our stay. The main course and puddings were acceptable. Breakfast the following morning was something that should never have got as far as our table...fried egg on BURNT toast. Pic attached. The restaurant services need a lot of attention.

Stumbled across this lovely pub and hotel. It has gorgeous interiors and interesting layouts which are a marvel to look at. We ordered some really tasty food which was very generous in size and filled us right up. Staff were a little inattentive as we asked for the bill 3 times but overall very happy with our visit.

If someone said take me to a proper English Pub I would take them here! Lovely old pub atmosphere with dried hops hanging from the ceiling and a log fire. Friendly staff, excellent food/ales and nice simple accommodation in the adjacent buildings. Also some good walking around with fantastic views from the North downs

Had a meal with friends and the staff were so warm, welcoming and efficient, nothing was too much trouble. The bar and restaurant area where we sat and ate was intimate, warm and relaxed. The food was good, and we all enjoyed our meals and the relaxed atmosphere. Will definitely return as it's a really special place.

Fantastic chef! The food is top notch and the staff couldn't be more helpful and attentive. A thoroughly enjoyable birthday dinner. Thankyou to everyone working there. I definitely highly recommend this Inn.

Stayed here whilst working away on more than one occasion. The food is fantastic, beer also. Rooms clean and well equipped. Plenty of parking ideal for big vans. Very quiet area too. The staff are very attentive. Beware though, the food is a bit pricey! On one occasion, we got charged £18 (2 of us!) for broccoli and cabbage as a side x2.

We stayed one night here on the way from Kent to the West since it's close (5 minutes) to the M20. The 20 or so chalets are spread out from the main pub building but there is lots of parking close to each chalet. The room was warm, good beds, tv, shower, there is even an umbrella in the room (which had to use!). We had a drink in the pub, it's a super authentic English pub, locals sitting at the bar, friendly place, several local ales. Food looked very good (we only had ice cream), probably a good idea to book a table in the restaurant at busy times. Breakfast was a very nice full English served by the owner who had many stories to tell. Overall if you are looking for good value and something memorable from a visit to Kent/England then this place is perfect.

Once seated, the service was great, however an acknowledgement of some sort, whilst waiting at the bar, would enhance the overall experience. Surprised, after naming 2 local butchers, that a French pork chop was served, which was tough and lacked flavour, the sprouts appeared all but raw, the croquettes were lovely. The biggest surprise, was the sign on the dog bin outside, asking for just customers waste, can't think why, that would be so important. The hops could do with changing.

One word to describe this place - wow! If you are looking for a traditional looking pub that does amazing food then you are looking in the right place. From the moment of walking in, I am welcomed with a walm welcomed face, there’s hops hanging from the ceiling that gives you the most walmest homely feeling - there’s no better place to be on a late cold evening. every meal I have had has been exceptional, not one bad word. And this is why this is the best kept secret in Kent. I will continue coming here and I look forward to every meal that comes my way. If you are a newbie and you are thinking whether to travel out to eat here, then you will not be disappointed. Well done to the team at the black horse.

The pub is really authentic, the staff behind the bar in the afternoon are very nice, fast and efficient. The staff in the morning serving breakfast appeared to be very busy. The choice of breakfast items is really quite shameful. Seven choices on the menu, all cooked and most with eggs. On the second day I asked if there was yogurt, cereal or fresh fruit, the answer was "no, but there is a toasting station". Don't drink the coffee, it tastes as if it was brewed 3 weeks in advance and then left on the heat to boil. We actually wanted to have dinner in the pub, as the menu looks good, but we were so disappointed with the breakfast, we decided to go somewhere else. Unfortunately, the rooms are in desperate need of a really good clean, or better yet a complete renovation, they are very dated. The furniture is old, the towels are frayed, there was mold both in the bath tub and on the tile. We have stayed in numerous places over the past twenty years, this was the first room without a fridge. There was also a very strange oder in the room, as if a cat had once lived there. Try the pub in the afternoon, the sitting area outside is nice, but I wouldn't spend another night there.

Really, nice pub with decent food and range draft beer. There are as well approximately 40 cabins, most of them for 4 people, including 2 bunk beds. Great place to eat and stay

Lovely spot. We spent a night here before visiting Leeds castle then heading to France. The room was down a slight hill but was spotlessly clean and very spacious. Design had been very carefully thought out. There was ample bedding for 5 of us which is normally very difficult to find. The breakfast was exceptional. Full continental and cooked options including black pudding which to me is a sign that they are making an extra special effort. All the staff were completely charming. What a great find!

We visit regularly now, for family meals, the food is really excellent and the staff are very helpful and friendly. Nice relaxed atmosphere in quite a traditional setting. Highly recommend.

The Black Horse is a really lovely country pub with friendly, welcoming and helpful staff. There is a good variety of craft beers available and the food is excellent. Two very happy customers on a sunny autumn afternoon!

We were used to stop here on our way to or from the Channel Tunnel. We loved the pub atmosphere. Very cosy, especially in the winter. The rooms are not as equally cosy and I have to say that the beds are now some of the most uncomfortable we ever slept in. The mattress is soft and soggy. The worst night ever. On the other side, the breakfast is very good. The food is not exceptional but good, especially compared to the appalling level of food quality in pubs nowadays. And the staff is very nice too. So… Please invest in new bedding and try to improve the food. Because it’s expensive for what it is…

What a restaurant! The location is out of the way from the hubbub of the town, the food was just amazing - probably the best burger I've had and service was perfect - enough servers (even though the restaurant was busy and there was a wedding going on!). I love the cosy fires and the hops in the beams. Just a lovely place to eat for all occasions.

I stayed at the Black Horse Inn for 2 nights whilst visiting Kent for some motorcycle training. The place is an absolute hidden gem. The food and beverages were top notch and served by attentive staff. The room was very clean and comfortable and well appointed. They even had a dedicated motorcycle parking bay outside my room! The rooms are behind the atmospheric pub and set out in a series of single storey buildings. I'm planning on returning to Kent soon and will have no hesitation in booking in with the Black Horse again. Final tip - Book direct with the pub as you will get a better rate than other websites.

Amazing value accessible room chalet. V spacious well equipped. Great size bathroom. Even has small sitting area. Parking right outside your door. Lots of electrical sockets. Both double bed and single bed very comfy. Short wheel up to main pub for the restaurant. Nice touch an umbrella on back of door in case it's raining.

We stayed here for our daughters wedding it was so beautiful. The old building is amazing with hops hanging from the ceiling .so quaint and felt like i had gone back in time. The room we stayed in foxglove was immaculately clean lovely comfy bed too. The girl at reception was polite and friendly made check in very easy. Room was airy and had very pretty decoration loved the little pond outside and surrounding hanging baskets so pretty. I found all the staff very polite and friendly nothing was too much trouble . If you are looking to say in a gorgeous pub in the beautiful surrounding of the Kent countryside give the Black Horse a try.I know you will not be disappointed. The breakfast was outstanding too good choice and very well presented and all served with a smile

Stayed on route from France with friends. The staff at both dinner and breakfast were really nice people and made you feel welcome. The food was enjoyed by us all, I went for the pork from the specials board it was really good and presented really well. The pub has a great atmosphere and good beers. The rooms are very comfortable we all slept really well. The only thing that could be a problem is the walls between the rooms are quite thin we could here the TV in the next room but it was in the background and went off quite early so not a problem for us. Would stay here again no problem.

THE place to go for a Sunday roast. Epic food, fresh and tasty. Just glorious on all fronts. Love rustic pub and restaurant area, only downside is parking can be a bit tricky some times. Can’t mark them down for this as it’s only tricky because it’s popular!

Serene, picturesque, and immaculate. The cuisine was excellent and the service very friendly. The suites are clean and comfortable. So glad we found this amazing sanctuary. Can’t wait to visit again! The photo is from our dinner table - lovely!

I had an excellent overnight stay here. The staff couldn't have been more helpful. The room was immaculate and modern with a really comfortable bed and a good shower. Meals in the restaurant were nice including some interesting specials. My only minor criticism is breakfast was cooked only. There was no cereal, fruit or croissants.

Room was very clean and had everything we needed. Unfortunately my partner and I found the mattress too firm and didn't sleep well. Breakfast was a little disappointing, had a long wait due to a large table before us and not all food was hot. The inn is beautiful and we had an evening meal there, which was delicious. Staff were helpful, finding us a table even though we hadn't booked and they were very busy.

Stayed 2 nights, took our dog with us whose 13. Rooms were lovely, bed very comfortable. Hairdryer and ironing board, kettle etc. Also a dog towel and blanket for her. Meals were up some stairs in the main pub, I did have to carry our dog up, but she could get down fine. Lovely food, staff were superb, really attentive, friendly and made a fuss of our dog. If you have trouble walking with hills, some of the accommodation is on quite steep hill but it's not a long hill, but I'm sure discussing this at time of booking should resolve with accommodation closer to main pub. Will definitely use again for our show weekends whether with or without our dog.
