Small museum, not so many historical object are displayed, most of them only display the historical text of Makassar City. Could be improved..

Small museum about the history of Makassar which is housed the former town hall. The building alone makes it worth a visit. Staff are also very friendly and helpful. Not that hours on Google maps are wrong. See photos for correct opening hours.

I visited Makassar a week ago. Actually this is not my first time going the daeng land. But it's my first time visiting museum kota Makassar with my friends and colleagues. I learnt so much knowledge about the history of Makassar in the past time and how great ujung Pandang was in hundreds years ago. Come to this museum and find amazing story beyond the beauty of Makassar

Yes, it is a museum. It is lovely that there is no entrance fee, but the museum is rather done for Indonesian people ONLY as there were only 5-10% of the textes translated into English. The amount of shown pieces is not huge as it was in Fort Rotterdam too.

I came on Sunday at 14.00, when I opened the entrance door, I found a group of ppl were eating lunch saying that that the museum open only from 09.00 - 13.00 on Saturday & Sunday. But, they allowed me to wander around the first floor which shows the history of Makassar, their traditional clothes & the first major of Makassar 1942-1945 (found to be Japannese during the Japan invasion in Indonesia) till the recent one. The museum itself was free of charge and located near the Tiger Park. I hope that they manage to open the museum till afternoon especially on weekends.

A place to learn the history of Makassar and its development prior the Kingdom of Gowa-Tallo up to post-revolution era. The antique collection was quite a few. Staffs are friendly and welcoming.

The museum is very good, well maintained, clean, the service is friendly, exhibitions are often held so it is very suitable as a study tour destination for students.

The place is clean and the staffs were very friendly. They walk you thru all the rooms and give brief explanation about the history, etc. All the historical items are well maintained, the museum also have its very first flooring displayed. The vibe inside museum isnt spooky at all because of the good lighting and ventilation.

A delightful place. Staff are especially welcoming and helpful. An interesting introduction to local history. The building itself, dating from the Dutch colonial era, is fascinating. No admission charge is the icing on the cake.

Wrong hours. Closed on saturday. Wasting time! Please update your opening hours. This is not good for your tourism reputation.
