❌ No bin in the toilet (so no sanitary disposal anywhere?! Don't come here if you've got your period, you're not welcome, "lol"...)?! 🤦‍♀️🤷‍♀️ ❌ No bins in the room anywhere so I'll just leave all my rubbish... On the table?! 🤔🤷‍♀️ ❌ No cups / glasses by the sink, had to drink from the tap to take my medication 😔 ❌ No hot drink facility in the room 😔 ❌ No seating or desk, aside from the bed, so nowhere to work 🤷‍♀️ ❌ Weird hanging frame thing that you can't hang clothes on properly. Also no hangers 🤔 ❌ Metal bed frame is bigger than the mattress, sticks out & is very difficult to walk around to get to the weird clothes hanger thing (also where the towels were) so really poor accessibility 😫 ❌ Windows sealed shut, over the front of windows that could open! 😢 ❌ Stuffy, claustrophobic little room with poor amenities, overall pretty poor for >£100/night 😵 ✅ Convenient location. ✅ The service has been great! Friendly & helpful. ✅ Clean room. ✅ USB ports in the plug sockets. ✅ 2 pillows, comfortable bed. ✅ A lamp, a mirror, a small fan.

Nice place, quiet. Felt small, but had everything I needed. Helpful staff when checking in, and staffed 24/7. Lockers were good, bit of an awkward location in the actual bunks and no actual lock provided, but roomy enough. Nice hot shower and appreciated the provided shower gel and hand wash. Beds were pre-made and towels provided. Main downside was arriving - had a lot of trouble finding the actual building as signage is not great, had to cross the road to see it but nice place overall and would stay again.

While booking it was shown as double bed but allotted the sharing room. The experience with front office is pathetic. I don't know about the day but night staff horrible. Not upto the expectations. It could be okay if someone want to just stay for few hours and move on. Don't get excited with the fake reviews.

If I could give this place 0 stars i would. I wouldn’t recommend at all. Our room was like a sauna, we have a fan in our room which we had on our whole stay, we also had our window open constantly but nothing made our room cooler. Electric sockets our dodgy and not fitted properly. When showering the water will go from warm to cold so you cannot enjoy your shower. No storage to put clothes. There is a green emergency light in every room, which when you’re trying to go to sleep is really irritating and bright. When asked for an extra fan downstairs the lady at reception said she would get us another one however she never did and never told us. We asked again at around 8pm, the lady at reception advised us that she would have a look and if not she’d give us a refund for one nights stay…however an hour passed and we went downstairs to check what was happening and she had left, meaning we had another boiling night. The next morning we complained to the manager who told us we’d get a free meal next door…however when we came down to get our free meal as told, we were told that the kitchen had closed…so their solution to the first problem was then followed by another problem. I wouldn’t recommend this place to anybody! waste of money and terrible staff who didn’t help at all! Save your money and go elsewhere. The only positive thing I have to say about this place is the location is perfect…however it is next to multiple bars so it’s loud in the evenings when trying to sleep. 0 STARS!! worst experience, terrible management.

It's not as bad as the reviews say. Though I have some concerns, the service is worth the value considering this is the cheapest stay I can get. They give towel and shower essentials while in some hostels you need to hire and pay extra for this. I stayed in a 4-bedroom female, the bathroom was inside the room. I give 4 stars because: 1. The bathroom lock was broken 2. While you have a shower, the water seems to be clogged and took slow to sink in 3. You need to wait more than a minute for hot water while running the water in the shower Other than that, I have no issue.

My partner booked this room and it was extremely disappointing. Unfortunately, the rooms were very basic, which was fine, but with no other access to clean water it would have been nice to have had at least a bottle in the room, or a glass for tap water. We were directly over the street, across from a lively and extremely loud bar. The shouting and drinking went on until the very early hours, followed not long after by the dustbin truck clearing bottles from bins. The street lights blasted through the curtains, and it with the noise it was impossible to get any sleep. Worse of all, the floor was slightly muddy with ingrained dirt on the tiles which was activated by any water drops. Finally, there was no hot water in either at night or in the morning. After a long day walking around Manchester all I needed was at least a warm shower, but no luck. You are paying for very basic accommodation, but an air bnb offers far more for the same price. The location is good because it’s really close to a car park, but other than that, unless you plan to spend only a few hours sleeping, I would avoid at all costs.

AVOID AT ALL COSTS. If you're thinking about booking a room here and are currently reading reviews, do not take them as hyperbole, they're all accurate. My wife and I are doing a tour of the UK and this is by far the worst hotel we have stayed at and that includes London! No hot water at all, and when we asked reception about it nothing was offered, not even a change to a different room or a free breakfast or something, just "run the water for 5 minutes it should warm up." It never did. The rooms are very noisy, even on the first floor we could hear the noise from the street and the doors slamming in the hallway are so loud they sound like they're next to your head. Please, for the love of God find a better hotel.

Not a co-working hostel. If you want to work remote this is not the place at all because there is no designated space unlike most Selina locations. The only options are to work in the reception area or the bar or the shared kitchen, and all of those places are very loud so you can’t be on meetings. The staff are great. Very friendly and helpful.

Where do I begin? We arrived before check-in and we were told we could leave our bags in an extremely visible area within the bar with no lock or safety feature, anyone could have walked in off the street and taken them. Once we arrived for check in at 3pm, we were given one key and went to the lift, which was disgusting, covered in smudges and obviously had not been cleaned for quite a while. When we got to our floor, we noticed a large black pipe running overhead. It was clearly painted to look as though it was a feature/decor rather than an inconvenience. Once we reached our room, we found it looked nothing like the photos. While advertised as small, this was absolutely miniscule. It was uninhabitable. You could not take more than one step into the room and looked a lot more cramped than the photos suggested. There was no chair, no desk, nowhere to put your luggage that you wouldn't immediately trip over. The windows were completely sealed shut, making the room an absolute fire hazard, as well as a sauna with the heat coming from the pipe that continued from the hallway to above our bed. The windows were a frosted glass so we could not see outside of them. The mattress was smaller than the bed frame, showing a significant amount of bed frame underneath. Make note that it is a shared bathroom before you intend to book. There is no ammenities whatsoever, not even as much as a hairdryer, phone or television. While cheap, it is no excuse for a room of that state, we decided to book other accomodation because we simply could not stay in that room without suffocating. We booked travel lodge which ended up being almost half the price and much better quality. The location is extremely handy, I will say that, but not worth staying in unless youre a single person and insanely desperate.

I really enjoyed my stay, I couldnt get picture ID but she was more than helpful & friendly. I tell you now the lady at the front desk was very lovely. I give a 4 star on the room, not because of how it looked because everything was perfectly presented but you will not get any sleep in that room anyway with the old windows. If it isnt people screaming outside it's the vents going off 24 7 and the windows are very old probably older than me. Not double glazed. Also I understand that you cant catch everything but if someone smashes glass in the room in future it's best to go over with a brush then a hoover. I cut myself on a tiny bit of shard of glass that was on the hotel room floor. It was very tiny and didnt cut much but because I really enjoyed my stay I didnt want to complain at all. The staff there are so friendly like extremely and made us feel extremely welcome. 10/10 recommend, I would definitely stay again regardless the glass situation because of how nice everyone was there. Even people next door at the cafe was extremely friendly.

having stayed at many hotels and apartments in Manchester this has to be the worst stay yet. Staying here for four nights was extremely difficult not only was the room extremely hot apparently due to hot water pipes ?! but the room did not have a tv which is usually a given in 2022. but the room very basic, in addition to this the bathroom lacked many basic necessities such as hand soap and a shelf or storage for toiletries. As well as the shower kept changing from hot to cold at random times so having a shower was extremely annoying and frustrating. moving onto the room itself the bed was somewhat comfortable, despite this with the room being extremely hot we had to sleep without a duvet and with the fan on. but this made it even more difficult to sleep as the fan was very loud and sounded like you were in a wind tunnel. Furthermore we tried to sleep without the fan and having the window open but yet again was extremely difficult as it’s always loud outside. the room also had this weird green light on and we couldn’t turn it off so yet again sleep was extremely difficult. regarding the room as well the electrical sockets were faulty and falling out of the wall. Overall I would high advice against staying here and saving your money. On countless occasions we asked for an extra fan as the room was as hot as a sauna which the staff did not help we asked them on multiple occasions and they said they forgot ? in addition to this they offered us a complimentary meal however when we went to get our free meal after all the mess ups the manager didn’t realise the kitchen closed early. He should have realised this and informed us to come earlier, so yet again another mess up by the staff which further gave us a bad opinion of the place. Moral of the story is STAY ELSE WHERE and DO NOT STAY HERE

You want to see how bad a hotel can be? Here it is. This place looks great from the outside, all hipsters and subdued lighting, but if you want hospitality, you're going to be disappointed. The reception looked at me like I was crazy when I asked for a bottle of water, the room was hotter than a sauna and the sole concession to this was a giant fan which was as noisy as you'd expect and wholly ineffectual. Said hipsters were making a huge, annoying noise outside, presumably discussing the best moustache wax or most daring beanie, for most of the night and there's a general air that anyone younger than 20 is in the wrong place. Hateful place to be avoided.

To be honest I felt real good about this place until I started looking for one of my ear plugs and encountered a blood stained tissue. What I’m not sure of is who to fault me for not letting go of the plugs, THE PERSON who made a mess or the cleaner for just changing the sheets and moving on. Otherwise it was great. had a toilet/bathroom for just the people in the room which meant you had a higher chance of meeting it clean!! Perfect for solo travels

Something feels just off about this place. Upon arrival, we got a cold room with the air vent pulsing out freezing temps, our room was colder than outside. No warm water either. After a room change we got a nicer room with a warm shower but it's still far from ideal... Very noisy street, a green light from the emergency sign that keeps you awake (and makes the place extra spooky too). And you get woken up by housekeeping slamming the doors right next to our room. The staff are helpful and probably just as disappointed by their workplace. Will never set foot here again.

Really good location right next to Piccadilly Garden. The beds have good mattresses, decent pillows and cover/blanket, light, a cubby shelf, two power outlets, and privacy curtains. Towel is provided without fee. Each room has a private bathroom, too, and they also have a towel for the floor next to the shower and another for hands. Kitchen could be better, especially the fridge but has the bare essentials. Bar next to it will give you one free drink as a guest staying at the hostel. There was construction going on outside. Lobby has small room for storaging luggage/bags with CCTV. Lift available. The cleaning of the floors in rooms should be more frequent.

The location is great and having privacy curtains on the beds was nice but those are the only good things I can say. The water would never heat up in the shower and I had to constantly ask for toilet paper for the room. They hardly cleaned the rooms while I was there. The biggest negative was that it was right on top of the bar so it was incredibly noisy every night. There’s no sound insulation for the rooms so you can hear everyone in the hallways. It was hard to get a good night’s sleep.

The location is great (Northern Quarter), right in the centre & everything is close by. Considering the price, the hostel defo does its job. Basic kitchen facilities available (including pans, cutlery etc.). My partner & I stayed in a double bedroom. The room was clean & again, considering the price, in a good condition. Only minus was the bathroom which was a little old & therefore, not the cleanest. However, one should not expect too much, you get what you pay for. One other thing: Because the hostel is right in the centre, it may be a bit noisy. That’s not really a minus as it naturally comes with the advantage of being close to everything. Earplugs defo help! All in all, if one is on a budget & looks for a place to stay in Manchester close to the centre, Selina is a good choice! :)

Loft room. This room was dirty, needed a hoover as it had debris on the floor, this is concerning when we're coming out of a pandemic that a proper clean had not been done. The room was freezing and had no heating on. Had to run the shower for 15-20 mins before it was warm enough to try and shower in, the drain in the sink and bath are slow draining. Seems strange to also offer bubble bath in the room but you can't have a bath because the bath has no plug. As to be expected the rooms are quiet loud as its on a busy road in a city.

I have stayed at this hostel on multiple occasions and customer service here is fantastic. Emily and Muhammed have got to be the most friendly, generous and sociable receptionists I have ever encountered. In addition, the rooms are beautifully designed and the kitchen is homely and quiescent for the most part.

Pleasantly surprised by this modern mixed form room in the buzzing part of town. Could argue it's spenny for the dorm rooms but it's in the centre of where you wanna be. And in return, the rooms are modern, and very clean, the bathroom was spacious and didn't feel like it was cheap, very good shower. The beds are comfy and have great access to bed side lamp and plug sockets, as well as a draw curtain on the bunk bed for privacy. The shared lounge and kitchen areas are quiet and comfortable. The complimentary pint in the neighbouring pub was a nice touch. The staff were very nice and helpful. Great place to stay for a couple of nights if you wanna be right by the bars, record shops and vintage outlets!

There was no hot water in our shower, so the lack of a shower door didn't matter! We asked to use another room's shower and were allowed to do so. The floor of that cubicle was dangerously slippery, and I fell: I banged bones in my elbow, shoulder, back, and hip and twisted a muscle in my knee.

It was a hotel we went to with high hopes. The place is really beautiful. However, even though we had an en-suite room, they told us that there was no room and gave us a room with a shared toilet. It is in a very noisy environment because it is very close to places such as pubs and bars. The thing that bothered me the most was the unannounced entering our room twice. Employees enter the room randomly saying it's cleaning time. But they never clean the toilets. Toilets are very dirty They even left our room door open once. This is truly irresponsible. Unacceptable. On our last day, before our check-out time came, the cleaning staff asked us to leave and our door was opened again without permission. Definitely not a place I recommend.

I really liked this place, the staff were all super friendly and helpful, the rooms were nice and clean and the beds were comfy. The USB outlet didn’t work in my bed though. I would say it was expensive for what it is though, I’m not sure if that’s because I booked rather late. The sign outside is tiny and I actually missed it the first time I walked by.

Honestly not sure where to start with this one. On the whole the staff seemed pretty nice and our check in was easy enough, but when we went to use the communal kitchen we found a baby mouse in a glue trap. My partner actually managed to rescue it and went to reception and they insisted they don't actually use glue traps. One guy on reception treated her like she was stupid for saving the mouse but she's worked in hospitality for nearly 10 years and has seen her fair share of mouse infestations etc. On her way up the lift she heard him saying that she clearly had no idea what she was doing which is a pretty unfair assumption, and something she's unfortunately used to hearing because she's often talked down to for having a foreign accent. Obviously glue traps are pretty inhumane and it wasn't great to see that just laid out in the kitchen. I have no idea whether they actually do use glue traps or not or whether someone else put it there, but either way they clearly weren't cleaning the kitchen area enough to spot that before we did. Our bathroom floor was also really dirty and we had like a quarter of a toilet roll when we checked in. On the last day we had no water at all so couldn't wash before leaving. Odd vibes overall. I was surprised we weren't offered a partial or even full refund after finding the glue trap and everything, they didn't offer us anything at all. Not even some extra loo roll lol. Honestly if it wasn't for the free drink we got at Wilson's next door this would be a one star rating. Just save yourself the money and go somewhere else.

Had a really good time staying at this hotel, amazing location and central enough that you can get to most places in Manchester within 5-15mins walking. the room was amazing but had to give it a 4 as the roof did leak the first night because of heavy rain so id get that checked out room 303. Service was amazing and the staff were really helpful lots of complimentary items like ear plugs, eye mask and even a coffee machine for are room which was amazing to wake up too. Will definitely be coming back to stay when in Manchester next just make sure to get the room fixed up a bit 👌

Not worth a star. Arrived to a room that had not been cleaned from their previous guest - having made the team aware - there was nothing they could do about it. During Covid/pandemic, this is disgraceful. Having accepted my fate for the night, there was no hot water/no heating in the room. Safe to say i checked out the next day. I have requested a phone call multiple times as i would like an explanation - little to no response. Potentially an exception, but how this has been dealt with, without a phone call to apologise, I would suggest anyone reading this to stay away and book at other hotels who appreciate my/your custom

You get what you pay for. It was a hostel (not a hotel) that was is in need for restoration including replacing broken light bulbs broken electric sockets, restoring hot water to showers and to deep clean all communal facilities. As hostels go, this is a mediocre place with it being close to the city centre too.

  • 1/5 George M. 6 months ago on Google
No curtains for privacy in the room, lights didn't work properly. My friend got a full refund but when I asked I was only allowed one night refunded. When I asked about getting the other nights refunded like my friend I was told I could sleep on the streets if I'd prefer. Disgusting & rundown & extortionate.

Loved our stay at Selina. Really brilliant hostel, clean and great prices. I booked for the wrong day and they were able to sort it as they'd had a cancellation. Was super happy and they had brilliant customer service. Also - nice touch they are dog friendly (free of charge) and have shampoo and conditioner in the showers!

Great location, spacious room, comfy bed, 4 bed private dorm. right by bars pubs food etc not too far from train or coach station. friendly reception staff and checking in process -- rude staff getting back in, its 24hrs had to wait a good 10mins+ for someone to come let us in. and he didnt seem too happy about doing his job like we disturbed him. very noisy till around 4am due to location. more a party place people up late and noise

On my first night at Selina I had some issues with noise in my room and didn't sleep. When i told reception i was given a free breakfast and was put into a different room. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful throughout, so I can't possibly fault them. Selina is a lovely little hostel- rooms are quite clean, although there was a broken handle on the inside of the shower room door and the shower handle did fall off. Location is perfect for young travellers- right next to pubs, vintage shops, coffee shops, art stores etc etc etc. Everything is within commuting distance of Piccadilly park, with trams running throughout the city. Would definitely stay again!

Horrible place. Poor facilities. Bedroom window did not open, making the room very stuffy. No workable toilet in one room. Beer taps in the bar mustn’t have been cleaned for years as all our drinks tasted off. To top it off, we got trapped in the lift and they blamed us even though there was no obvious sign stating the lift capacity, it was scribbled on a piece of paper inside the lift. They stung us for $220 and claimed they’d kick us out and move our stuff to the street if we didn’t pay. Terrible hotel terrible service

Brilliant hotel in the center of the Northern Quarter in Manchester. Close to shopping, quirky stores, bars, restaurants, coffee shops and cafes. Rooms are spacious, clean and well equipped. Beds are super comfortable too!

  • 2/5 Svenja C. 1 year ago on Google
Check-in was easy, really kind stuff. Room is really small, no windows to open. Has a fan in the room, which has almost no effect on the really high temperatures in the room and is extremely loud. Hostel is right in the mittle of a lot of bars and clubs, which makes it almost impossible to sleep. Bathrooms are almost always dirty and do not get cleaned often. Often no toiletpaper. Biggest pro is that you get a free welcome drink and that‘s about it. Would not recommend this place in summer or high season.

  • 1/5 Corey K. 1 year ago on Google
DON’T book they cancelled a week before our stay due to ‘construction’ and had it booked 8 months in advance. (Due to a festival in Manchester) they have clearly canceled as we got a cheap deal and they’ve been able to sell the rooms now for quadruple the price we paid! AVOID

This place is great. Good value for money. Clean and spacious rooms. Great atmosphere. Reception team were friendly and allowed us to store luggage prior to check in and also after check out. Would definitely recommend and stay again in the future.

Stayed in a private room and was very disappointing. The room in the third floor (elevator was not working but happens in hostels) felt like an earthquake every time somebody walked in the hall and the heater was standard (could not adjust). The restaurant next door is terrible service that is very odd for the Selina hospitality brand. I must say that despite this, the front desk people were very kind and that is the only good that kept me from having a lower rating honestly.

Practical but in dire need of refurb. We had two private dorms of 4, one ensuite, for £40 a night per head. Well appointed with comfortable beds but terrible pillows. Good location but obviously very noisy at night. Real problem was the bathroom facilities - shared one was completely delapidated while the ensuite's shower neither got hot nor turned off! Still, it did the job and the staff were nice.

I stayed in a standard private room and here is my opinion. Pros: • Room was very clean • Clean towels provided • Comfortable bed • Shared bathroom was clean • Excellent customer service & friendly staff Cons: • My particular room was quite cramped and very hot due to a central heating pipe running across the ceiling and no windows being able to open • Thin walls

  • 4/5 Rebekka T. 2 years ago on Google
The experience is overall lovely! I love the interior decor, the wifi is amazing, the staff were helpful and the beds were really comfy. Some of the smaller details were off, for example some of the electrics weren’t working and my bed privacy curtain was bent out of shape.

  • 1/5 Anne van M. 2 years ago on Google
Rooms look completely different than advertised. Very basic rooms without any facilities. No hot water in the shower. Cardboard walls so you hear every pin drop in other rooms. I can only imagine a pleasant stay if you’re black out drunk (which our neighbours were).

The stuff are awesome! Super friendly and helpful! Yeah, it’s noisy in the room. Like really very noisy. The noise from bar, from washing car, just from the street. But the reason is old windows. Can’t tell that it’s highly expecting but pretty predictable in old part of the city. Could be a bit more cleaned, but otherwise good hotel!

Such a great hostel, very good location. The people at reception were absolutely lovely and very helpful. I only stayed one night but would 100% recommend to anyone travelling, interested in making the most of this city on a limited budget. I loved how clean and put together this place was, I wish I stayed longer. :D

  • 3/5 Carolina M. 11 months ago on Google
I think for the price, I was expecting a bit more. The room was quite comfortable, there are curtains so you can have a bit of privacy, I liked that! The staff was also nice and available. They give you towels too (great!). It is indeed noisy but it was not a problem for me, as I was always tired and could fall asleep easily. But might be a problem for others. For me the big problem was the cleaning. The toilet was honestly a disaster, in 3 days i don’t think it was cleaned, actually you could see it hasn’t been clean in a long time. Even the common areas or the elevator. You should really invest more on cleaning!
