The Bedroom was awful stains and buns on the carpet. It stank of cigarettes. Stains on the bedlinen. This hotel is obviously used to house immigrants temporarily and while I have nothing against that it means it has become run down and the microwave in the Bedroom! stank of burnt food and the fridge was out of order. The gentleman who booked me in was very polite though. I had booked for 3 nights but left after one. Avoid this so called hotel.

The pictures online have to be at least 5-10 years old….extremely deceiving. The outside of the hotel is dilapidated and needs a major overhaul. The hotel room itself is by far the most disgusting and unkept room I’ve ever stayed in. The hallway reeks of cigarettes poorly covered up by a cheap harlot’s perfume. The TV screen was broken and unwatchable…..almost as if an angry drunk broke it in a fit of alcohol induced rage. The carpet was stained with “god knows what.” Overall 0/5 stars. Waste of money and extremely misleading from the website and Expedia. DO NOT STAY HERE

If I could give it no stars I would, firstly, the window in my room was barely hanging onto the wall and was falling out, the rooms are disgusting and suffer from extreme damp. The smell was really bad. I've never left a bad review for anything before but this needed to be said in the hopes it saves someone else booking here. It's advertised as a 3 star, I said this to the receptionist after asking why the hotel was in such disrepair and even he said this isn't even a 1 star never mind a 3 star. But honestly, this place shouldn't be open, it doesn't just need a lick of paint, it needs demolishing and starting again, with the windows, this is absolutely not a safe place to be, if you were to lean on them there is certainly a chance it could fall through and seriously injure someone. I've sent a complaint and so far I have not received anything back, I imagine I probably won't. I've stayed in some sketchy places (both in the UK, throughout Europe and the USA) before as I travel a lot for work and this has just won the absolute new top place for, hotels I'll never ever stay in again. Abysmal, depressing, dangerous and dirty sums it up.

We paid £201.60 for a 2 night stay (no breakfast) and we were out in the outbuilding bit. The outside left a lot to be desired, but the inside was totally shocking, our room was dark and damp and the carpets were not only fifthy but sticky as well, it was absolutely disgusting and we will certainly not be staying there again.

Avoid like the plague. Dirty scruffy hotel, black carpets, no towels or toilet roll in the rooms.. no tea or coffee etc... banging all night long. Worst hotel I've ever stayed in and certainly won't again. This is what you would expect for £15 a night. Certainly not worth £57

This place charges a hefty fee to stay yet its in great need of modernisation and in bad need of repair. To compare it to Faulty Towers is a bit of an insult to FT...odd panelling in the room that you had to  look through to view the small TV on wall see pic, unfreash tired and very old tatty wallpaper chairs .... the redeeming features were the bed was comfy & the guy on reception was pleasant. But I would most definitely give this place a miss if you are after a decent stay in a hotel /b&b .

What a dump. The state of the pillow sums up this place to a T. I was scared to walk barefoot on the carpet because of the state of the place. Has a run down hostel vibe to it. The pictures are false advertising it looks nothing alike. Most certainly will never stay here again.

Rooms were Grubby and hallways smelled of cigarettes and fish. Reception and welcome was terrible. Asked for another room and it was much the same and hallway smelt bad. Didn't stay and lost our money. Booked Ibis Budget at short notice, which was infinitely better in all ways. xxx AVOID this place xxx

Very cute and small place, the garden was very pretty 👍: Room included a mini fridge, microwave, fan, kettle and hair dryer. The shampoo conditioner shower gel was actually pretty nice for a hotel, smells great and works well. Shower was good. However, service at the register was very slow, we had to ring the bell about 5 times. The room’s light was extremely bright, the bedside lights didn’t work, one didn’t even have a bulb in it. The shower’s shampoo was empty. The bed was not very comfortable.

DO NOT USE! Booked two rooms 28 Aug 22. Hotel truly awful. Outside building - drab, dreary, dirty, flaking paint, failed double glazing units, windows unwashed, damp in corners and grounds unkempt, with debris and litter scattered around. Waste bins overflowing and empty beer cans scattered about. Inside, rooms cramped, beds uncomfortable and small. Thick dust on lampshades above the bed. Pubic hair on top of the push button toilet cysten. Carpets stained and dirty. Shower arrangement meant you had to step into the small cubicle before the taps could be operated meaning a gush of either freezing cold or scalding hot water. Hygiene levels very poor. Corridor with stained, worn carpets, rising damp in corners, windowsills thick with dust. Breakfast cost £10 per person and was poor - very fatty bacon, cheap sausage, fried egg rock hard, one spoon of tinned tomatoes, one spoon of beans and a hash brown. Largely inedible. Tea was without doubt the worse I have ever tasted. I spit it back into the cup! Our party of four felt uncomfortable because the place was so dirty and run down. We would not have stayed a second night even if it had been booked. We will NEVER visit again.

Good, basic hotel and well worth the price. The bed was comfortable, sheets crisp and white, nice choice of pillows, fan provided, parking straightforward. There was no one on the desk, so I hit the bell and waited and waited and waited. Then I spotted the sign with a phone number to ring, and that worked fine. However, the member of staff who came had a very strong accent which was difficult to understand. Each time I said "Sorry?" he increased the volume and it felt like he was being condescending. Basic hotel or not, it would be a nice idea to work on a few clear explanations and instructions, eg "Your room is in the annex which is back through the main entrance", "There is a code to open the door to the annex and the code is printed on your pass", "There are no numbers on the buttons you have to press but they go 1-5 from top to bottom", "Your window is fixed to open only a bit, but you can press these buttons here if you need to open it wider", etc..

For me this was a last minute booking, therefore was £80/night. The hotel is located in a nice area in Sale/Manchester (5min driving from Sale Centre or 30min waking). The outside, from the road, looks promising but going inside is a complete let down. The reception had a beautiful fireplace but the room was smelling very bad. The room is actually small. Mine had chipped paint on the wall, broken furniture and chipped sink. The bathroom is small but is acceptable. The pillows had yellow stains on them which I think is not acceptable at all. However is has a generous car parking and I loved the garden at the rear.

Booked the Normanhurst last minute as it was the cheapest in Manchester at the time and I didn't want to stay in an air b&b room. Very easy to find and the outside really looks like it should be full of history. Parking is at the rear and I struggled to get my small car out the next morning (I don't drive often so it might have been me, but the spaces are a little tight). The main house looks great with wooden interiors and stained glass windows, unfortunately my room was out the back in the newer build. I was rather glad of a ground floor room near the door, that was until the heard of elephants arrived at regular I intervals throughout the night. Very thin walls so you can hear lots. The rooms are very dated, with a modern shower. Had everything I needed including a small fridge which came in useful. The staff member was friendly but not a conversationalist. The area that the hotel is located in is lovely with a few restaurants within easy walking distance. I would highly recommend the Armenian restaurant. It wasn't the best budget hotel I have ever stayed in and it wasn't the worst, if the price was right I would probably stay again

Avoid at all costs! 0* for me. Hotel corridor smelt of cigarettes, wall covered in damp with wallpaper peeling off, room smelt strongly of damp and cigarettes, carpet stained, towel rail hanging off the wall with exposed screws & light fixtures hanging off the wall. Unhelpful staff, they didn't care one bit about the condition of the room. It looked more like a hostel. We have requested a full refund. Not worth the money at all.

Like others have said, it is tired and could do with an update. The rooms are spacious and clean, lovely Egyptian cotton bedding and towels. The staff are all lovely, helpful and friendly. Great breakfast, Jackie was fabulous. For the price you can't go wrong.

First up, the positives. Our room was clean and comfortable, the TV was good, and the shower was fine. Perfectly sufficient for a bed for three nights. For the price, it fulfilled our needs but the overall experience fell well short of what we hoped for, even allowing for the Covid limitations. On the other hand, the hotel and grounds seemed neglected and uncared for. The paint on our windowsill was peeling and there was a screw protruding at least 1cm from it. The gardens are potentially a huge asset but are being left to decay. How much does it cost to keep the grass mowed as minimal maintenance? Despite booking a room for two of us, there was only one towel and one glass in the bathroom. We had to give our kettle to my mother in law because she didn't have one. The bar was closed, and there was no catering at all, despite the regulations relaxing to allow indoor hospitality. There is a great business opportunity here going completely to waste. If only I had the resources!!

I have stayed in well over 100 hotels all around the world and this is by far the worst place I have ever stayed in. Well, I say stayed, the room and bedding were so dirty we refused to stay at the property. To top it off the member of staff we talked to did nothing be consistently lie to us and then refused us a refund. Every wall had stains and rips in the wallpaper Winds had streak marks all over them. The Bath had brown stains in it and marks. The bed has someone hair in it, one brown mark and another that looked like blood. The carpet was covered in soil and marks. I took lots of photos to show them and Expedia but no one seems to care, I will be reporting it to the health department. The management are currently ghosting us and refuse to answer calls or e-mails. Stay away !

This hotel is in a lovely setting on a quiet road. The parking is safely off the street. The building is lovely and the garden at the back is welcoming and peaceful. My room was warm and clean with a very welcome tea kettle and tray of supplies so I could relax with a cuppa as soon as I got to my room. The bed is clean and comfortable. The desk is handy. I was amazed to see the microwave oven and mini fridge in my room. There is also a hair dryer, an iron and ironing board, and even an electric fan if I get too warm! The window is easy to operate to bring in fresh air and the sound of the many birds in the peaceful garden. I slept well. I could hear other guests in the hallway but not once they closed their doors. There was plenty of hot water for my shower and the provided soap just had a pleasant smell without clinging to me all day. Every employee I have met has been polite, helpful, and willing to go out of their way to assist me if needed. I'm glad I booked my room for a second night.

If I could give a no star rating I would. Blood stained sheets Dirty room/carpets/bathroom/microwave Dirty towels from previous stay left in the room Broken towel rail, paper peeling off wall Tea and coffee not replenished; milk curdled Toiletries (shower and sink soap dispensers empty): manager stated, yes that is correct as it is for the customer to come and tell us they are empty and we will provide if necessary. This should not be the responsibility of the customer who is paying for the service: the customer does not wish to stand naked and wet in the shower to find there is no soap as advertised and the wall dispensers would suggest is there for use, to then need to go to reception to sort this out and ask for soap! Room not fully cleaned for the stay, as the manager admitted, informing us that the cleaner was Pakistan and had to leave suddenly due to an emergency with her daughter. The lady's nationality and personal information is not the customers business, it is the companies responsibility to provide what the customer is paying £90 to £120 per night for. The grounds were unkempt with broken garden furniture which were a safety risk. No bar as advertised. Another customer was complaining about the breakfast and stated they had vomited after eating it. Hotel providing accommodation for homeless whose cans of lager that they sat drinking in the garden were just left there; and for the Police needing a place for someone to reside that was due in court. If the hotel is in fact a hostel then the pricing for a night should reflect this and it should be advertised as such.

Stayed at this hotel for the first time last week absolutely lovely! definitely a vintage style room but I adore that! Staff are super friendly no issues with cleanliness or area or facilities I have already booked again!

Run. We booked this place thinking it was the same place in the pictures. Management changed and it is now dilapidated. Rooms are just abysmal. Fotos speak for themselves, so I won’t have to say much here. Do not give these people business. Sheets are clean, but that’s probably the only thing they change in this “hotel.” Very sad. Older pictures from previous management look romantic and quaint.

I arrived at the hotel for my 3 night stay, the welcoming was what I expected I just got what’s your name and told how much I needed to pay. I was handed my key I looked at him like to say where am I going he then said have you been here before I said no first time, I was shown to my room which was in the other building. I got into my room and it smelt really bad of cigarette smoke I asked if someone had been smoking in here I was asked if I wanted to change room and I said yes please. Went back to reception and given a new room as going to it felt a bit uncomfortable as he was huffing and puffing. Got into second room looked lovely and good size, the little electric heater was turned on, the room had a big radiator and it didn’t work unfortunately it was late that I noticed the electric heater wasn’t working the room was absolutely freezing. I left a note on reception asking for a new heater as no one was on the desk till 10am and I would be in my room all day having a training meeting. They brought a new heater which just took the cold off and I appreciated but the main radiator never came on at all. The shower pressure was awful it was like washing in a small fountain took me 20minutes. The bed was a bit hard definitely need a new mattress, banging around til 2.30am the first night then the following night till midnight. There also some stairs that take you to the other building from the main building be careful coming off the stairs as there is a hole in floor and worried me. The building needs a bit of money throwing at it, holes in wall, wallpaper ripped and carpets stained. Such a shame as main reception was lovely looking the rest let it down. I couldn’t wait to get home and get warm and a good shower.

The hotel is tired and not very welcoming. The room was meant to be premiere. the carpet was a disgrace, and it smelt damp .it was not in any shape or form , the only saving grace was the lady that made the breakfast, she was lovely and the food was good ,but everything else was not good , it may have been good once, but not anymore.

Honest review: ok set up, shocking customer service, AVOID, if possible...... The property is fine, location is good, the rooms are decent, but the customer service is shocking, and non existent. When we checked in we specifically asked the manager of the property, what time you would like us to check out. The manager said 11:00 am , which was fine. We get a knock on the door at 10:20, by a member a staff, saying that we have 5 minutes to get out of the room because there was a marathon and the street will be closed. We rushed out but we couldn't get out ASAP. Once we got out, 10:45, which is within what we were advised in the evening, the road was closed because of the marathon, so we had to stay in the hotel until 7:00pm in the afternoon...... as you can imagine our whole day was messed up... I talked to the people that organized the marathon and they said that this has been promoted for months and that they have advised residents and the hotel weeks in advance, as the hotel was adamant that there was no communication to advise of the event. Furthermore, when I questioned it with the manager of the hotel, he said that it was my responsibility as a guest to do a full research of the area before visiting and I should know better.... shocking. I stay away for work 2-3 times a week, if I have to research every single area, I will do nothing but research...... The manager of the hotel said that I was making his life difficult.. but the funny thing is, I wasn't making his life difficult when he took my money the day before. There was no compassion and no trying to help, we asked the question "can we at least have out our rooms back so we don't stay outside in the rain". If we didn't ask the above question they would have never offered... Honestly, shocking service..... avoid if possible

Descent enough place to stop over before a flight from Manchester. The room was clean and tidy, comfy bed. The only reason I haven’t scored any higher is that a lot of the facilities such as bar etc. we’re closed for reverb

We booked a room at short notice arrived off a plane in Manchester to get to the property at 2am this morning 10th June nobody answered the door so we couldn’t check in was in darkness me and my family stayed in the car safe to say I won’t be booking again!

Stayed for an early morning flight the next day. Staff seemed lovely but it was an awful stay. Assumed just a bed next to airport how bad could it be. Main issues were noise and cleanliness. The place is bleak but can get past that. The slamming doors and paper thin walls kept us up all night. Shower was full of hair and hadnt been cleaned. Extractor fan sounded like an air raid siren. Slept on top of duvet as sheets covered in stains. Read the other reviews before booking.

I've used this place twice and I've booked in very late. Never thought about check in times. But today I realised it was 3pm. I asked to cancel but they are denying me. If I was on the other side id just cancel it. Not very happy atm. Will change if they follow through.

I think the photos of the room, carpets and the grounds say it all. Beers bottles thrown on the garden, dirty items left outside. No sign of smoke alarm in my room and electrical wires hanging from the ceiling. Potentially dangerous. I think the owners need to consider if it's fair to subject customers to these conditions.

By the other reviews it's good for a one night stay. Stayed here recently for 4 nights while working in altrincham ..room was never serviced once in the whole week . Seems there is only a 2 coffee a week ration and your bed never needs to be made..your only renting space . On the good side it was quiet

Lovely main building. Good location, easy to reach and with carpark. We stayed in the building on the back - not that fashionable but ok. We turned off the fridge that was a little loud, but then my partner was awakened during the night by other guests leaving their rooms. The fan in the bathroom might have been not operative and the filter looked dirty. Which might be the reason he had a little bit of allergy in the morning. Kettle tea and coffee where available, and a nice desk in front of the window. Wi-fi signal wasn't strong but we didn't really need it.

  • 1/5 Lucy H. 1 year ago on Google
Unhelpful staff, toilet was leaking so I asked to change rooms & the staff made me feel like I was causing ww3. The exterior is falling apart & there’s a skip which is overflowing right outside the building leading to our room. The dust in the rooms are terrible, god forbid you get the bottom floor because you can’t open the windows without being greeted to overgrown hedges flaunting into your room. Also apparently got a complaint but I wasn’t aware until I was made to feel extremely uncomfortable the next morning when I was checking out. If someone complained to the staff about my noise level, why didn’t any of the staff come and tell me straight away? The microwave & fridge in the room is the only unique thing about this place.

Very affordable, last-minute booking turned out so well. Warm, cleans rooms and friendly, helpful staff. Such a pretty location and a short walk to the tram station that takes you right into the city. Would stay again.

Incredibly run down hotel - I would not stay there again. Bed was at least clean but the hotel itself is not functional - no bar, restaurant etc. Probably the worst hotel I have ever been in - more like a dormitory with thin walls and loud neighbours. It must be crazy at the weekend. Avoid at all costs.

What was probably a lovely hotel long ago has been run down quite badly. Stayed in the annexe area. Bedroom window was filthy and the window catch broken. Room was relatively tidy but did not inspect too much in case of findings things that might be worrying. Room over looked garden that was overgrown and had bins overflowing with beer cans. Unlikely ever to return

  • 2/5 Catherine W. 1 year ago on Google
Really friendly but very run down which is a shame because facilities for business stays are great - fridge, microwave, kettle etc. But rooms and communal areas are really tired and dated. However beds and linen are beautifully clean and crisp.

Room was nice and clean, breakfast was good. Jackie was lovely and bright in the morning at breakfast. Only downside was the WiFi in the annex part of the building is was extremely poor and couldn’t do work in my room but it was good in the house which is not much good if you want to relax and work in your room

Nice friendly hotel with free parking. Good firm beds. Clean rooms. Good breakfast freshly prepared, not a buffet. Good price too and a nice part of town, with cheap ASDA petrol only a mile away. We'll use it again when visiting relatives.
