We visited Manchester specifically for this restaurant. My partner has been coeliac all her life but we've always struggled when it comes to Chinese food. Fear not, fellow Coeliacs! Do not hesitate for one second! The food is fresh, exceptionally tasty and they don't hang about. We visited on our anniversary weekend and Helen and her team made us feel extremely welcomed and we left with a lovely gift to boot! Not only will we back, we will be bringing others too. The food and service was excellent! If I could rate this place higher than 5 stars, I would. We went for my birthday and they were kind enough to give me a birthday card. Super sweet touch. I will recommend to everyone I know and we will become regulars there! Planning on going again in a couple of weeks. Thank you so much and thank you for giving multiple gluten free options. After only just being diagnosed as coeliac, I was worried about visiting Manchester but come across this amazing restaurant. The staff were lovely and assured me about the gluten free options available. Everything in this picture is gluten free. I personally loved the different menus on the table to avoid the embarrassment of asking for the GF menu. The food was absolutely delicious too. We will definitely be back on our next visit to Manchester. If you are around the area it is a MUST!

We came here today for our anniversary meal and it was so lovely and such a nice experience. The food was tasty and delicious, the staff was attentive and nice. Towards the end of our meal a waiter came over and asked if we were celebrating anything special and when we told them it was our anniversary they asked for our names and 3 minutes later they brought out lovely and kind card with a little gift. It was honestly so nice and made our day even more special. The place is decorated beautifully and we will definitely come again!

Good range of options for gluten-free and vegan diners. I lived in Hong Kong for 6 years so my standards are very high for Chinese food. The set menu food (gluten-free) was fine. The zodiac-themed cocktails were extremely tempting & delicious - I especially enjoyed my sheep cocktail.

What a fantastic find! I researched the area for gluten free restaurants when due to be staying in Manchester and came across Sweet Mandarin. It’s amazing to finally be able to eat Chinese food again after many years living a gluten free diet! Staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful, assuring me that everything was cooked separately. Portions were generous (so much so that I had to take some away as I couldn’t eat it all!). Highly recommend and would gladly go again next time I’m in Manchester! Thank you!

Hidden, delightful gem! Delicious food, quick service, super clean, enjoyable music. Portions were more than filling and can feed 2. The Sweet and Sour Chicken was fantastic as well as the Chicken and Prawns Pad Thai 😋 Highly recommend if your looking to satisfy your hunger!

Looking for seriously good Gluten Free Chinese food? This is the place. A huge selection of food carefully prepared and is delicious. Make sure you're hungry because there's so much choice, you'll want one of everything.

Very friendly service and very clean bathrooms. The interior and the music are not Chinese in any way (pop songs covered by a saxophone player). The dishes are full of sauces that are over-thickened and over-sweetened, whilst vegetables are merely a decoration. The dishes tasted exactly the same as at the cheap take-away places I used to dine at as a college student in the States. This is a pity, because this very restaurant is mentioned in the film footage on display at the Lee Kai Hung Chinese Culture Gallery (at the Manchester Museum), as a restaurant where dishes are made in accordance with cherished family recipes handed down from generation to generation...

Such a lovely independent Chinese restaurant. Being gluten free I have always missed having this cuisine and it was so lovely to have the set menu. It was a shame we were going to a concert so couldn't take the leftovers with us! Highly recommend

I visited Sweet Mandarin today and went in with no expectations. We waited outside in the cold for about ten minutes and a chap walked over and set the placard to open but didn't open the doors for us and we had to open it ourselves, which was a bit odd, but aside from that everything was perfect. The cocktails were very tiny for 9 quid. However the food was incredible! Amazing selection of vegan and gluten free options, my mum was in her element. I had the salt and pepper tofu, salt and pepper mushrooms, chilli tofu, green curry and egg free rice. The food was perfect and it was the best Chinese food I've ever had! Not sure of her name but our waitress was really sweet and attentive, and she brought me a birthday card and a small box of coffee creams. I was so taken aback by this lovely gesture! The other lady behind the bar was lovely too. The decor was really pretty and I'd absolutely go back in a heartbeat. Best gluten free curry sauce we've ever had, and the salt and pepper tofu was delicious ☺️ thanks for the lovely birthday meal.

A Chinese restaurant with a full gluten free menu!!! What an incredible find for our short trip to Manchester. To have such a wide choice of gluten free options at a Chinese restaurant was just incredible and so we over ordered, wanting to try as much as possible. We were not disappointed when the food came, incredible crispy salt and pepper wings, sweet and sour chicken, crispy shredded beef and much more. Tasted exactly like gluten containing Chinese. Will definitely be visiting here again if back in Manchester.

Lovely food, great gluten free and vegan menu. I was very disappointed with the portion size, not sure how they can justify their prices for tiny bowls of rice and curry sauce! And couldn't believe the small measure of cocktails we got which were 9 quid each , ridiculous!

First place I’ve been that has a large selection of Gluten free options. All I can say is wow the food is unreal so tasty and flavourful. The service was fast and the food came fast also we wasn’t waiting long at all. The staff were super friendly and very helpful with the gluten free selections. So happy we found this place and we will be returning very soon.

Had a really nice meal here. The staff were all lovely and very attending. It was great to be given a separate vegan menu, and the portion size for the noodles was huge, I was very full afterwards. Would go back again 👍

We visited Sweet Mandarin today as I am Celiac and heard amazing things about their Gluten Free menu. It was mine and my husband's 2 year anniversary today and so decided to book here for a meal. The gentleman at the desk when we arrived was lovely. He asked about whether it was an occasion and gave us a card during our meal wishing us happy anniversary. It was a lovely gesture. Given I haven't had a good Chinese in a while, I would absolutely recommend. My husband even said the food was just as good as a normal Chinese. Excellent service and food 😊

Food is delicious but it can be too sweet depending on what you order. Sweet & sour chicken is obviously sweet but crispy beef is overly sweet to me. Pastas are great and a plus if you’re looking for gluten free food. Cleanliness is ok overall but not great, there is definitely room for improvement there. Would I come back again??? Obviously yes! Thumbs up for me!

What an amazing find!! Gluten free heaven, but tastes better than any similar restaurant regardless of gluten or otherwise. Super friendly staff, great prices but best of all, amazing food!! So happy with my visit to Sweet Mandarin. I’m coeliac and the choice of gluten free food was incredible. The cocktails were amazing, my favourite was the Rooster. Highly recommend and will definitely be returning very soon.

Popular place for dinner. Friendly staff, fast service and food was quick to arrive. Gluten free special chow mein with rice noodles is delicious. Beef was well seasoned. Gluten free Peroni is also available. Accepts contactless payments. Will be back.

I cannot rate Sweet Mandarin high enough! We come here every time we stay in Manc but usually get take aways as we’re in a rush. The gluten free menu is out of this world and the quality of the food is to match! Not to mention the value for money! Tonight we ate in for the first time as it was a special occasion and the experience was second to none. The food was delicious and perfectly cooked, the service was warm and welcoming and we were even given a little gift and a hand written card thanking us for coming in on our special occasion. This place is unreal! We’ll surely be back! Can’t thank Helen, Colin and the Sweet Mandarin staff enough 🥰🥰

My absolute favourite place to eat in Manchester. Food is absolutely delicious and service is super friendly and quick. The gluten free menu is full of variety and tastes amazing too (which is hard to do when making thing’s gluten free lol)

Love Sweet Mandarin! After a recommendation from a friend before COVID hit, I waited two years to finally visit Sweet Mandarin and it did not disappoint! I’ve been gluten free for 4 years, and not managed to have any Chinese food since being diagnosed, being able to have salt and pepper chips, and prawn toast was the best!! Even though my partner ordered non gluten free options, they still made them gluten free so I could try them, thank you for being so attentive! Fantastic food, friendly service, and I will 100% be visiting again!

Simply amazing! Sweet Mandarin fitted us in shortly before they closed. The food was fantastic and most importantly for my wife; they had a lengthy gluten free menu which was absolutely delicious. Such a friendly place to eat, we cannot rate it highly enough and we will definitely return!

Visit to sweet mandarin was totally wonderful, attended a concert, was looking for something informal for a family get together before the show for tea. Found the restaurant and was intrigued by the website intro history regarding family. from booking online to chatting with Helen totally Made me feel relaxed with her interaction, as I’m no tech guru. Once confirmation was made I was relaxed knowing food was sorted. Entry into the restaurant was in my opinion very warm informal and so welcoming. Made a point of saying hello to The owners out of respect for there strength and desire for family traditions, really approachable people whom made myself and family feel at ease. We all enjoyed our food order, everyone made a sweeping comment of one of the best Chinese meals for a long time, for me this was high praise indeed. I mentioned to I believe Colin on our way out who was a true gentleman. Will definitely return when visiting Manchester. Good luck for the future.

All i can say is a brilliant place. A menu full of gluten free items. I recommend the set dinner for 2 as it is delicious and massive. It fed me, my partner and 2 young kids and it was so good. Staff are really friendly and we even left with a bag full of extra food given to us just out of kindness! We will be back for more next time we are in the area. 5 stars

If I could give more than 5 stars I wouldn’t hesitate to do so, absolutely amazing all around! Impeccable service and simply wonderful food. Every single server we dealt with was so warm and friendly, especially Helen. Ordered gluten-free due to coeliac disease and have rarely felt so safe, or eaten such amazing Chinese food. 10/10 would definitely come again and recommend to anyone!
