Fancy something fancy in the heart of Manchester, Harvey Nichols is the place for you It’s so hard walking through the store to get to the restaurant, but when you’re ready for some good food who cares about the shopping (though hard to resist when walking out). The second floor is where you find the Bar & Brasserie and it smells amazing. It’s one of those restaurants that smell fancy kinda like Tom Ford’s Italian Cypress, so we were loving the smell. Our meal here was genuinely a great experience and felt like we were looked after with some amazing staff. Our meal consisted of; Olives [£4] - Such a big bowl of yummy olives Eggs Royale with Smoked Salmon [£8] - Soft breakfast muffins topped with smoked salmon and oozing eggs, just the way we like them. The hollandaise sauce had nice, subtle flavours and this dish went straight down. One of the best smoked salmon egg royales we’ve had in a really long time! Avocado on toasted Sourdough [£8] - A good balance of tomatoes and avocado with the avocadoes smashed nicely with a smattering of coriander. The spinach was cooked right and not overcooked (as some places usually do) and the sourdough was really soft, albeit the crust was a little hard With drinks of Espresso and Fresh Orange Juice. The espresso was smooth and not bitter at all, with the biscuit adding a nice touch. The Orange juice was totally fresh and loved every sip of it. And then a Luxury Afternoon Tea [£22] because how can you not?! And boy, were we glad we did. For those of you wanting this, make sure you book beforehand and let them know of any dietary requirements and they will try their best to accommodate. All the items are made fresh daily and to the amount required, so be prepared - even a day’s notice is enough. The afternoon tea consisted of; Savoury of; Our favourites of Goats cheese with red onion wrap, which was not overpowering on the cheese and Avocado sandwich, which had a tang to it The other sandwiches were cheese & tomato, egg mayo, cucumber and mushroom pate Sweet of; Scone with clotted cream and jam - pure yum, and a soft, firm scone. We can never figure out which one goes first, so on this occasion it was jam Brownie - Pure, rich chocolate indulgence White chocolate biscuit - Soft, shortbread with white chocolate providing a creamy touch. This is a good dunkin option Other items included strawberry macaron, lemon trifle meringue, rhubarb panna cotta We are most definitely going to return for some more goodies over here - it makes you feel so special. They must have been having a bad night , a Couple walked out as we sat down they were obviously un happy. We were shown to our table and waited for some one to take our order, the manager came over and asked if we would move to another table as they had a big table to set up which we agreed expecting for him to at Least to take our drinks order but no. Finally he did take our Oder for d Food and a couple of drinks. Between courses I asked the manger for a glass of wine which did not turn up, a waiter saw I had nothing to drink and asked if I wanted a drink I asked for the wine again, unfortunately this never arrived. As my wife and I have finished our meal I asked for the bill and the manger asked if everything was to our liking I explained about the wine and asked to pay the bill, he begged me to give one more chance and the glass of wine would be on the house, unfortunately the wine did not turn up. I asked for the bill and explained I was disappointed and he for some reason couldn’t accept that he had failed, he had 3 oportunities to turn the situation round but failed, he said he was doing a good job I disagreed and asked him to stop taking and get me the bill. I really used to like the restaurant before lock down, this first experience was very poor, the food was okay but not worth the money, the service was poor, the staff ambience was awful I think they are overstretched, the decor is drab. I would prefer to go across the road the Selfridges restaurant it is much much better.

Delicious food and great staff. OK. I go there for the 3 course meal deal which includes a cocktail. As anyone familiar with meal deals knows, you get pared down portions of the regular al la carte menu. That said, we love the views and flavoursome dishes on a budget. Given that one is getting wined and dined for the cost of 2 cocktails, something must be right. Rob the Maitre'd is attentive and welcoming. When the olives on the standard menu with chilli oil were too spicy for my 3 year old, he replaced them with the lovely Cerignola variety from the deli.

Have been for meals and drinks for a few years now, we've never had one bad meal. The food is delicious and there's a variety of drinks so at least you'll be spoilt for choice, we love coming here for New Year Eve and have made it a bit of a traditional thing

Went in hoping cocktail bar was open. reluctantly tried the brasserie. Had the Tuna Wasabi sandwich....lots of tuna and mayo but no taste of wasabi. my friend had the Welsh rarebit which was meant to be accompanied with hot mustard. Again big portion but no hot mustard taste. Had the Harvey Nics rose which was bland. 48 spent and was largely disappointed

Truly awful coffee. The coffee was stale and the drink was poorly made. Staff were indifferent and told me it was stale become it was decaf.

Intimidating and a shame of a venue. Planning on a nice family meal to see a restaurant smaller than a cafe. God awful

Here is a newly built housing estate, which is convenient for delivery attendants.

Was denied service. Wanted to purchase a doughnut to go but was told that 'today' they are trialling not selling doughnuts to go unless you bought 4 mixed flavour ones. Staff was extremely rude and said they would not sell us a doughnut unless we ate in and bought coffee. DO NOT GO

Great service and good food. Make sure to go earlier, it takes about an hour just to get your food when restaurant is busy.

Excellent food and excellent service, however, Sunday menu doesn't offer as much choice as the weekly à la carte. Please bear this in mind if you're booking a table for a Sunday.

Slooooow service. Half an hour for drinks. Food average (chips raw in parts) and different soup delivered than the one ordered. Waiter indifferent to our concern/complaint. Still had the cheek to add a discretionary service charge. Won't be going again

Visited on New Years Eve for breakfast, we went quite often previously, but will not be going again. Although the restaurant was quiet, there was only one other couple there at the time the cooked breakfast was cold and not of great quality. We asked for some toast and were offered some dry bread which had never been close to a toaster or a grill. They didn't bring any butter or marmalade or jam or even offer anything. When I complained nobody was interested. It was all in all a dreadful experience. Not to be repeated. There are other places to go which are considerably better, don't waste your money here.

Reading the other recent reviews here, I can understand the general comments. We waited about 20 minutes for our drinks, but nothing else went wrong at all. The food we ate was first class, we all finished the lot! We were served by a man with glasses called Will. He literally didn't stop in the 2 hours we were there. He was so friendly, nothing was too much trouble. He clearly understands his job role. Unfortunately the other staff members didn't seem as switched on. In my opinion of course. So for Will's first class service, as well as the exceptional food, 5 stars. We just hope it isn't Will's day off when we return!
