What a fantastic place to visit. I visited with my husband and family today and we were very impressed by the exhibits, real life stories and the restored synagogue. Our guide Julien was very knowledgable and it was interesting to hear more about the Jewish faith. The rest of the staff were really friendly and we all enjoyed the experience. Many thanks !

There was a lot to see and learn about about the Jewish religion and what happened especially around the second world war and escaping to Manchester. There is also a synagogue to explore, which is really neat to see. P.S. get the peanut butter maize crisps, they're spectacular

It's quite a small museum but a lovely one. There is a vegetarian cafe and small shop on the bottom floor; they were happy to cater to my gluten intolerance. On the upper floor is the actual museum gallery, there are a lot of items packed into a few rooms so depending on how much reading you like to do, your visit could be anywhere from 1-4 hours. Some very interesting stories from the Manchester Jewish community and the history of how the Jewish community grew in Manchester. Attached to the museum next door is their historic synagogue. The whole place is wheelchair accessible with accessible toilets on both floors.

Our first time to visit this great museum in Manchester, we went for the Laure Provost Exhibition which is amazing! From the collections my wife likes the English/Hebrew teapot and my daughter saw the batik pattern kippah which is her favourite. For me, I very much liked the synagogue stained glass windows and we really enjoyed coming here. Hope to do this again the future when we go to Manchester!

It was a very interesting museum on the history of the Jewish community in Manchester. It has recently been refurbished and looks amazing! The information is so interesting and there is a wide range of items and objects to learn about. The synagogue is also beautiful. The café is fantastic! The food was 5* and all the staff made us feel so welcomed. I would 100% go back!

Day visit with college staff. Excellent talks and workshop. Did expect museum to be bigger (more exhibits) however what was presented was informative. Lots of reading and listening though. Impressed with cafe. Lovely CLEAN food. There was a small shop attached. Definitely need to go back with my family. Lovely day out.

Wonderful museum. Absolutely lovely staff. Thank you to Lawrence who was super informative and explained lots of interesting facts about the synagogue. The cafe was worth visiting the Jewish Museum in its own right! Delicious and really relaxing atmosphere.

We can not recommend a visit to the Manchester Jewish Museum enough! We visited on a Saturday, and arrived in time to have some lunch before going around and we were so glad we did. The cafe they have there is small but serves incredible food and our education in Jewish traditions started here. Given that we visited during Passover, the menu was tailored to this and it was great to experience. If you are planning to visit we suggest you get lunch there before going around, it felt like such a good introduction before we went around. (The food was so good we ended up buying a cook book to take home.) The cafe and shop are in their new extension which is incredibly well done and seems to compliment the original synagogue perfectly. Once we headed up to the first exhibition we were greeted by this incredible volunteer who was possibly the highlight of our visit. Annoyingly we can't remember her name, but she had short red hair and mentioned that she was currently studying a PhD. She gave a great overview of what we were about to look at and then answered all of our questions in such amazing depth that she really helped bring the exhibits to life for us. We can not thank her enough for her time and knowledge, she completely transformed our experience. The exhibits themselves were brilliantly laid out, with great themes in each case and had a connecting thread that allowed you to move from one to the next seamlessly. After we had been given more information than we could ever fit in our heads, we moved on the actual synagogue which was a wonderful example of how original architectural features can be preserved in order to tell a story. Again, we were met by volunteers in there, who were brilliant at answering our questions and providing extra context to what we could see around us and making sense of it all. Overall, we could not recommend this enough, and consider it a must-visit if you find yourself in Manchester for the weekend. We ended up spending over 3 hours in there in total, but only realised this once we had left as we were so engrossed the whole time we were there. The volunteers really make this place the incredible experience that it is, and we can only thank them for their thoughtful approach and incredible attitudes.

Very interesting visit and good to see the well preserved Synagogue. We parked easily on a side street and had an inexpensive and tasty bowl of soup with bread for our lunch. Highly recommended.

Super little museum, with staff who are welcoming and friendly. One of the highlights of my recent visit to Manchester. Everything is well-labelled, the artefacts are evocative and moving and the synagogue is a fascinating bonus. Having said all that, it's worth making a trip just for the vegetarian/vegan cafe, which is amazing. Everything is handmade with care and attention and the staff are lovely. I began with a coffee and ended up staying for lunch. Highly recommended all round.

Beautiful museum, made on base of old Spanish and Portuguese synagogue. Exposition contains a lot of personal stories, and it’s so touchy! Synagogue itself extremely beautiful. Vegan cafe on the ground floor is also pretty good. Lovely place, I will definitely visit it in future.

What a hidden gem this place is. Exceptionally friendly and knowledgeable staff, my daughter (who is learning about Judaism at primary school) found the experience truly enjoyable. They keep the museum and synagogue very clean and the little café is relaxed, with a nice selection of healthy food. As a final bonus, your entry tickets remain valid for 12 months - a great way of encouraging people to come back again.

Great museum to visit, just a short walk out of Manchester city centre or a few quid in a taxi. Staff couldn't have been more friendly and were on-hand to answer any questions. The extension to the museum really adds to the overall experience. Cafe was exceptionally good; food was well-priced, delicious, fresh and locally sourced (definitely try the vegan salmon and cream cheese bagel!).

Despite its small size, the museum offers a wealth of experiences. The staff were all really polite and made us feel welcome. The museum also had engaging guides in each section. I observed one guide happily spending over 30 minutes conversing with a group, which was nice to see. The museum is specifically dedicated to delving into the lived experiences of Manchester's Jewish community through stories, artifacts, and more. This emphasis on personal narratives creates a strong sense of intimacy. The café unexpectedly stood out as a highlight for us. The reasonably priced really good qualify food and beverages (definitely try the herbal teas) exceeded our expectations.

My partner and myself came today for the first time and it was a wonderful experience. We both learnt a great deal. It's very much worth a visit and the staff are extremely helpful and friendly. Fantastic cafe too! Just a shame the gift shop doesn't sell fridge magnets. 😄

Had a quick visit here this weekend, was really interesting to hear about the Jewish community in Manchester, and there was so much to see! Good for a morning/afternoon but not really a whole day. They have a cafe that looked really nice and a small shop. The synagogue was beautiful!

Big difference from the original Spanish - Portugal synagogue. Excellent displays & information about Jewish arrivals over the centuries. I missed the football display from the old site that showed Jewish involvement in the sport in Manchester. So good I'll be going again when I'll try their coffee!

I came up from London for the day with a family member to visit the museum. Worth the day trip! The choices they made in terms of their collection were perfect! I loved getting to hear all of the stories from Manchurian Jews and see the richness of the community. They made wonderful choices of which physical items to show and how they’ve arranged it. The attached synagogue is also gorgeous. I appreciate there are many visitors with different needs from the museum and I think they’ve done a good job at trying to meet them. I cannot end this review without mentioning the cafe and gift shop. The food was stunning and I had a great shopping spree of the different cards on offer. Look forward to making another day trip back!

Lovely small museum with staff who really care about the place and its theme. Exhibits are a mixture of artefacts from Manchester Jewish life and some really well done oral histories, with the centerpiece being the preserved interior of a fine Moorish Revival synagogue. Sephardim know how to build a beautiful synagogue and it's interesting to see one with English elements.

Interesting and beautifully designed extension. Thought the film volume too low and cafe closed at 16:00hrs so a little too early for us. All in all an important part of Manchester history and includes ever changing fascinating displays.

The Jewish Museum is one of the best ways to spend any morning or afternoon. It’s jam-packed with so much local Jewish heritage and really gives you a great insight to Manchester’s wonderful Jewish community and how it formed in Cheetham Hill & spread across North Manchester. With physical objects, written stories, videos and audio monologues, there are many different ways to learn and take in the information. If you need a hand with anything; the extremely knowledgable volunteers are on hand to help with a wealth of knowledge. If they aren’t sure on a question, they won’t mess you around. If they can they’ll direct you to someone who knows, if not, they do their best to help. I’m 26 and last visited when I was in year 6 (10/11 years old). The new addition is absolutely top class but it was still the same building remember from 15 years ago. So they’ve really kept to the original museum and the heritage which is really nice to see. I brought my 4 year old and she absolutely loved every minute of our visit. 100% recommended and will be back many, many times!

Very welcoming staff and volunteers, lots to see and listen to in a relatively small exhibition space, lovely restored synagogue. Cafe excellent too. Could easily spend 3-4 hours here and not exhaust everything. Suggestion: an introductory guided tour of the synagogue would be useful to people of non Jewish faith. Shame about the surrounding area, Manchester City Council need to put some more effort in here.

Love the new refurbishment of the museum! And love the new cafe! I think it's really helped you, to modernise the museum space - to open up and reach out to more people - to tell the story of Jewish Manchester and people's stories. Looking forward to returning and seeing your autumn events!
