This is a well run museum that actively restores old buses and bus paraphernalia to a very high standard. The people who work there are quietly passionate about history and transport. There's so many buses, you'll be amazed!

Been in Manchester 10 years and finally visiting this museum. It's a great little place for bus enthusiasts or anyone interested in the bus and tram history of Manchester. The only downside is that it is just really busses and trains. For a Transport museum I was expecting a bit more, which is why I've gave 4 stars instead of 5. But all in all its a good way to spend a couple of hours. Plenty to see, plenty to learn and you can even go inside some of the buses as well. Remember to look up when you are inside as there is lots of cool signs and stuff all around the room which you could easily miss.

Brilliant. Well worth a visit. Cheap to get in. Staff helpful. Cafe excellent - pie, mushey peas and gravy £1.50! Check opening times though. 10 minute walk from tram stop

Excellent little museum of buses, kids can visit for free and adults pay five pounds which I assumer goes to the upkeep of the vehicles. There is highly knowledgeable staff whom give us some detailed information about some of the display vehicles. Take a hour or so out and have a visit. Some of the buses you are allowed to board which is fun if you like that type of thing

Fantastic family day out! A fascinating trip down memory lane! Very well laid out, and charming atmosphere. Seeing all the beautiful old buses looking at their best was such a thrill. Pure nostalgia! Highly recommended!

Nice place. The buses are in amazing condition, they really maintain them. The entrance is ok, £5 adult and free for kids. One Con...the staf from the store need to be prepared much better about their products on sale.

A really interesting museum, lovely to see all the buses and things like the ticket dispensers. Run by lovely staff that I believe are volunteers. There is also a small cafe, and a shop selling model buses, books and other transport related items.

The opening time to the actual opening time was quite accurate, we arrived at the museum at around 9:50 and entered at 10:00~, the tickets are not expensive if anything, probably cheaper than most places in Manchester. The inside was nice and contained a lot of buses and engines. Some you could enter and some not. The shop is also very cheap and there’s a Tea Shop inside the museum. Would recommend! 9/10

This was a lovely museum for visiting, with classic buses from different eras! There is additions like maps and ticket machine replicas giving insight to them, trams are shown as well back from their early days. Some transport even allows walk on which is brilliant, models are superbly crafted and old signs bring the feel of what it was like for those travellers!

A wonderful living museum celebrating the history of public transport in Greater Manchester. Lots of exhibits, friendly staff, and a great cafe serving basic meals and snacks at bargain prices. On special event weekends a free bus service to/from the city centre operates, using buses from the museum collection. Very atmospheric and a great place to visit.

Came here with my 2 year old daughter to take a look at and go inside some old buses. The site itself is part of the very much active bus depot with what I guess was a couple of redundant sheds within it. The selection here is really impressive and features a really wide selection of buses from the greater Manchester area along with a original Manchester tram prototype and a WW2 era fire engine. Entry was just £5 for me (free for my daughter) and we spent about 45 minutes here. A highlight was being able to go inside about 5 different buses. Well worth a trip if you are in the area!

A great place to visit with or without the kids. Lots of great old buses and memorabilia. You can go inside some of the buses and remember the good old days of a conductor and a driver. Plenty of photo opportunities to be had. Helpful staff and a nice little cafe inside. May go again soon.

A wonderful museum, full of fascinating and nostalgic old buses. Lots of well-designed information boards giving the full history of each vehicle as well as items of more general transport interest. It was also really interesting being able to watch the vehicles being stripped down and restored. I loved visiting here and highly recommend it. Make sure it is open when you plan to visit as it is not open every day.

Really enjoyed this. Great to see the progression through the ages. You were allowed to enter some of the buses and even got drinks in cute transport mugs in the cafe. Would highly recommend.

Nice museum but VERY bus orientated. The good news is, you are allowed on some of them. Gift shop is reasonably priced imo. On some days they do vintage bus rides :)

Love this place, i try to go often but been recently and went to the 80s themed bus weekend and it was fab, didn't manage to go to Swinton on the Express bus as didn't have a lot of time but overall it was very good, loved the old retro buses and the merchandise. Bought an 80s bus book from the shop too and i love it.

I used to be a PCV driver with my late father, so this was a wonderful place to visit. It's such a friendly place, and every vehicle is in pristine condition. Will definitely be visiting again :)

We visited in the morning, when the museum was quiet. It was staffed by enthusiasts, who gave us a useful introduction and left us to browse. There was a lot of detailed history of the various bus companies, which would have been particularly interesting to local people who remembered the companies and colours. Possibly misnamed as a museum of transport, as it was almost exclusively about buses.

My two daughters (8 and 3) really loved this place. There were enough little bits to interact with to keep them entertained for a few hours. If we had have stayed longer we could have done some of the treasure hunts. The kids also loved the ride on a vintage bus and that Mr Tumble had recently visited so there were lots of pictures of him there. The little cafe was also lovely and very reasonably priced. Would definitely go again.

Great place to visit & good value for the entrance prices! nice to see some of the old buses, credit to the volunteers who run and restore the vehicles, little cafe inside very reasonably priced & good access access for visitors, we parked on the street outside which wasn't an issue on the Saturday morning

Excellent selection of buses brings back memories of my youth, plus a shop and cafe. Also this year is the 200th anniversary of buses 1824-2024 check online for special avents . Great for all ages.

There's so much to see, and tons of information. All the staff are super friendly and happy to stop and chat and answer questions. Disability access is fantastic, they have a newly installed wheelchair lift (they said 2 months old when I asked!) and it is super easy to use with big button for the floors. There's also a cafe but I didn't go in there

Visited here to pass in an hour or so while waiting for someone. For the price it's a great place and the kids had a great time, especially because they were able to go on a few on the buses. The collection is large and would definitely appeal to bus enthusiasts. I was a bit disappointed with the gift shop as there is only pencils with the museum name on. Magnets would be nice maybe?

Great little museum, fab collection. Entrance fee is just £5. Facilitate on site, tea room and gift shop. Covid measures in place, hand sanitisers dotted around. Face covering not mandatory, but advised.

Great variety of vehicles, lots of interactive displays, videos of the vehicles in use and a train managers office set up (its quite hidden so keep an eye out for it and go in!). Floor is cobbled so unsuitable for prams and some wheelchairs may struggle. Just across the road from the East Lancs Railway.

It's a small museum but well looked after and definitely worth visiting if you're a bus fan. You can walk around and look at the buses, read about them and you can get inside on some of the buses too. There are also staff members around whom you can ask questions and who are happy to share their expertise. Tickets to the museum are only £6 for adults and children go free. To get to the museum you can take a tram to Queens Road and then it's about 10 minutes walk from the tram station to the museum.

Love the ancient buses , and electric bus, horse drawn trams . Evolution of public transport in world and Manchester, from 1824

Really enjoyed our few hours at the museum. Something for us as grandparents to reminisce about days gone by, and our 3 nearly 4 year old granddaughter to explore all the buses. Only big mistake we made was making sandwiches, as the cafe was very reasonably priced. At £6 for adults for admission to the museum, it’s an absolute bargain, as all the staff are very passionate about what they do. Check dates and times before you go, as it’s only open certain days.

This is the place for bus enthusiasts or anyone interested in the history of transportation in Manchester. It's for a couple of hours and may not be a perfect place to take kids since I only found a couple of buses that are open and you can get into them and feel history inside you. It's transport museum because it's around buses and tramways. No airplanes or spacecraft though.

We t on the North Western buses 100th anniversary. Interesting vehicles and well preserved. Would have liked to have had a few trade stands there.

A very educational museum , telling the story of transport through the years with excellent interpretation boards. Screens showing films of how transport evolved in Manchester and the area.

What a lovely wee transport museum! Buses from all eras and enjoy a free touraround the area in one of the exhibits! Kids go free. Cafe with lovely historic touches.

Amazing place! Holds lots of history of Manchester and surrounding area. Its prefect for transport enthusiasts! There are mostly buses and a few trams. The entrance fee is affordable; no need to book. Entry into the displays are permitted in some.

Had a lovely afternoon here with my two little boys, a must visit for anyone with children who love vehicles. There is a lot to see, and you can go inside some of the buses as well which the kids loved. The museum is very clean and social distancing measures were very good too. There is the cutest little cafe inside which is like going back in time, loved it.

Take a trip back through time and see what you, your parents, or grandparents used to ride around the local area on. Friendly enthusiastic and knowledgeable staff will happily answer your questions. It's easy to lose a few hours wondering around the exhibits. Even get a ride on running day. Great value attraction all the family can enjoy. Visit onsite cafe for a brew and a snack. Gift shop too. Museum open Wednesday, Saturday &Sunday's. 10am-4.30pm.
