Went here this week and had a great time. I went on my own, climbed about an hour, had a coffee and met some better climbers. Two other single women got together for mutual support and the five of us coached each other up things we struggled with. So 10/10 for friendliness of customers, the same for staff. Huge centre, well routed. It is about 12 -15 minutes walk from Piccadilly Station. Under five from Victoria. Also, an indoor bike park. Take a padlock for your locker

*EDITING MY REVIEW AS OF NOVEMBER 2023* Reduced my stars from 5 to 2. The pictures you're seeing on here are no longer a good representation of the centre. The centre has gone so downhill it's untrue; the roof is still leaking as of 6 years on, they've opened 2 new centres but ZERO new holds meaning the original centre is sparse and barely worth the visit (not to mention that the new centres are completely unimaginative), and DO NOT get me started on the prices... £12 per visit as a concession, £13 standard entry. £10 membership as opposed to the £1 "lifetime" membership fee 4 years ago and £8 entry. If you want monthly it's £40pm concession or £45 non-concession.... Depot is cheaper AND has more centres, is warmer, and hasn't been leaking for years (not to mention it was Depot that stepped up and offered holds to RO when there was a fire). I have to say, having climbed there for years and working there for a year, I've gone from thinking this was the best centre in Manchester, to knowing it's a full time money grab with no passion. Avoid before 2pm on weekends and between 5-7 on weekdays if you visit.. Though it's not really that busy anymore anyway.

Just by sheer luck I found this place and booked a party for my 7 year old and his friends.... Thought it might be fun to try something different and thankfully I was right! Big thanks to the team, especially Nathan, Nick and Matt who instructed the climbing party and all had the patience of saints, making sure everyone was involved and had fun. After the party we went to the 'party room' .... which was basic but adequate. Major mum fail as I'd overlooked this and not planned and decorations 😬 The kids were served pizza, which was actually really good and I think prepared in house. They also provided Crisps and brownies. I'd taken sweets, chocolate and birthday cupcakes. Would definitely recommend this place, my son loved it.

My favourite climbing gym in the region. Good variety of styles and grades, helpful and friendly staff. Not intimidating or overwhelming like some other places can be. Grading is usually pretty accurate.

Excellent!!! Definitely five stars! Brought my six year old here today and it was brilliant! Really cheap and such good fun. Staff brilliant, really helpful and friendly. One staff member in particular helped us a lot with the bigger wall and harnesses. We are 100% coming back. If you're an adult and accompanying a child, wear comfortable clothes because if you're physically able to join in; you will definitely want to! Excellent place. They also serve food and have good facilities.

My daughter has just had her birthday party here. Booking was easy - I did it online and received a confirmation email instantly. I phoned up to confirm some details and the person that I spoke to was friendly and helpful, as were all of the staff on the day. There was free parking for customers opposite the venue. Sign in was easy. The venue was clean and had plenty of seated areas for adults to sit down whilst the children were climbing. Children had ample time in the different areas and because they moved to different rooms, never got bored. Even the children that were nervous about heights had a great time. Their instructor was really good with them. The food was ready as soon as they had finished climbing and there was plenty - 3 large pizzas between 8 children (ages 9 - 12) and crisps and large chocolate brownie each. I would recommend Rock Over Climbing to anyone. All the children have gone home very happy and wanting to climb more in the future. As a parent of 2, this is the least stressful party I have arranged or attended. Good value for money.

We did the birthday party offer. The kids loved it, got to go on all the different types of walls. Our host was great. Great value. Party room for food could have had a bit more effort made, was a bit like sitting in a tiny office.

Had such a great time, we did an introduction session for adults and it was really useful we were taken around the venue and explained the numbering system and gave different climbs a go. Afterwards we were able to stay and climb on our own. Would definitely recommend it for anyone new to climbing or anyone who hasn't done it in a long time.

Used to be a great centre but despite its size there’s not a great deal to climb. Blocs are really sparse, usually no more than only 1-2 of each grade per section.

The space is so big, so much potential but there’s barely any climbs on the walls, littérale 8 climbs of a grade which is ridiculous. Might need to bring in more setters if they want the gym to be good. Staff is very nice good contact and the setting is fun but lack coordination problems, quite old style of climbing. Training area is also very old seems like their investing all the funds in the new gym which is sad cause this one has so much potential.

I had a great day. The staff are lovely and welcoming... I felt very comfortable the moment I walked through the door. It was my first time climbing in Manchester, there are lots of spaces/bike racks for bicycles inside the premises so I knew my bike was safe while climbing. Can't wait to go back again :)

Been today for my daughters 7th birthday party. Absolutely fab place, Matt the party host was great and really engaged with the kids. They all had a great time and hopefully we have inspired some future climbers! My only feedback to the team is with regard to the party room. It could do with some tlc and some music maybe, but perfectly adequate.

Very friendly staff and welcoming atmosphere. Great selection of walls to climb, with varying levels of difficulty. I really enjoyed my visit and will definitely be back again soon!

Staff are always super friendly and make an effort to remember you. Although the centre can get quite busy in the evenings, people respect one another and even help you out with tricky climbs. I recommend this place all the time.

Super friendly staff, good coffee. In terms of climbing there seemed to be alot of chalk on most of the holds and some of the matting needs refreshing. All round decent setting, fair amount of climbing with varying wall types.

Lots of boulder lines of different levels of difficulty! My girlfriend and I really enjoyed our sessions. The staff is very friendly as well.

Love this place, like a tardis of climbing. Super friendly staff who make the whole experience a pleasure. Great for kids, first timers like me and for the more experienced. Couldn’t recommend it enough.

We've been this morning (in fact that's us first in the queue!). Brilliant set up, great climbing, chill out areas with bean bags and even a log burner, and the staff were super, SUPER friendly and helpful. Highly recommend Rock over Sharston!

Really enjoy coming here. As someone very much with the beginner bracket having been climbing inconsistently over the past few years, the are lots of problems for me to have a go at. Staff are friendly and there's always a nice atmosphere. Routes reset regularly. Great place to climb 😊

Mat our instructor was fantastic and friendly. This was our first visit as a family and would definitely return. Loads of climbing walls with a great relaxing environment no pressure to do more than your ability. Perfect way to spend the day as a family with reasonable prices.

Brought my children here for a junior rock climbing taster session. It was brilliant!! Every member of staff we met was lovely and encouraging. Great coaching and saw my kids get more confidant and skillful just in the 1 session. Fantastic bouldering courses that get changed weekly to keep the challenge fresh and a great cafe for the observers. We will be back and signing up for the next the junior rock climbing course.

First time climbing ever. I have to say the staff and the people that go here are incredibly friendly. I have never been surrounded by so many kind lovely people. It seems everyone goes out of their way to assist, advise, and encourage each other. Will make this a regular hence forth.

Had such a great day here. Dina gave us our induction and was really wonderful. She gave the children great advice and encouragement and made sure we all felt safe and comfortable before we began our bouldering. So many good routes and lovely clientele. Also great music playing throughout the centre. Highly recommended

Who would have thought bouldering would be great fun? We had the best afternoon and it was an amazing workout. The team was friendly and the facilities were first class. Brilliant for children and adults.

Really good wall. Great variety of problems and something for everyone. If I lived in Manchester I would be here regularly. Definitely worth a visit, even the children's area is great if you have a little one.

Love this place, always a great choice of routes, even at beginner level, I never get bored like at some other bouldering centres. Friendly, relaxed atmosphere and the brownies in the cafe are delicious, our favourite climbing centre by far 💗

My youngest child had his birthday party there with some of his friends... Milly was the party host and she was brilliant, kept all the children entertained and nothing was too much trouble for her. Subsequently our party went very smoothly and everybody enjoyed their time at 'Rock Over Climbing'.. Highly recommended.

Classic climbing wall. It has some old school vibes being located in an older building and having a random mix of rooms and training areas. A massive variety of boulders and areas so it was easy to find space even when the wall was busy. There's a nice big functional training area upstairs and some free weights too. Took about 5 mins to sign up and get registered and a competitive price with all the other walls too.

The best climbing centre I have ever been to. They have the best variety, the best route setters. They care about every ability and do not have a corporate feel. The staff are supportive and are always on hand to talk you through a climb and have a laugh. They also reset ALL THE TIME!

  • 5/5 Lucas H. 2 years ago on Google
Fantastic and clean facilities and equipment, with helpful staff, easy sign-up with multiple options and cheap prices. Has a great variety of climb areas, each with a great variety of skill-level climbs. Felt very safe while climbing and was always surrounded by people willing to help and give advice.
