We just had lunch at this fantastic gem of a place, no wonder you are lucky to get a table as a walk in with no prior bookings!! The service is warm and friendly promoting that family fun feel, with the right mix of attentiveness. The food is on another level, from the perfectly cooked monkfish to the divine Beef cheek that melts on your tongue. This place is not on the budget side but if you want to have delightful food it is well worth the money! I will most defiantly be returning, probably sooner rather than later. Many thanks for a delicious lunch!

Fantastic evening at Bar San Juan. Very friendly and accommodating staff, attentive throughout. Definitely worth booking as they were busy, the food was cooked to order but was awesome. The lamb pastures were a personal favourite but every dish (and the wine) was amazing. Bar San Juan were also very helpful when we forgot our bag and held it for us! Very much recommend the place, we'll be back!

Had a fabulous lunch today. The place was packed as soon as it opened, so I recommend booking. The food came fairly quickly, and in manageable intervals. Each dish was delicious. The beef cheeks and the lamb parcels were a real highlight - simply fabulous. The staff were very friendly and prompt. Overall, I think Bar San Juan deserves it's reputation as one of the best tapas places around. It felt like we'd gone on holiday for a couple of hours. We will definitely be back.

As recommended by a friend S, I went on the off-chance of them being able to fit me in for a late lunch, as visiting from Yorkshire. It was packed even at 3pm. After a wait a table was freed up and what a bonus. The staff were professional and efficient and very cheerful and polite. Had Patatas bravas and beef cheeks with an excellent dry white wine. Will return but I do advice booking. Excellent all round, thank you.

One of my go to restaurants. Food is phenomenal! If you have not been I suggest you go. Service is great, very chilled environment. My recommendation would be to get there early to avoid waiting for a table! Even though its worth the wait!

Small but authentic Tapas bar. Best to book as only ever seen it busy. Outside area is nice on a good day but a bit hit or miss in inclement weather. Four of us shared 10 dishes; all excellent. Shredded lamb parcels were my favourite. Draft beers include Alhamra, Estrella and Cruzcampo. Been a few times and hope for a few more.

Little gem nestled in Chorlton. It’s always busy so definitely not a hidden gem. The atmosphere is a bit chaotic and feels a bit rushed but that kind of adds to the authenticity. The food is fantastic, all dishes were a hit and offered more variety to other tapas style restaurants we’ve been to. Overall I’ll 100% head back and try some more of the food and you should too!

Great atmosphere, lovely, friendly staff and - as others have said - a proper Spanish tapas bar feel to it. And the food is proper, traditional tapas. None of that 'fusion' or 'with a twist' nonsense. Having said that, the quality ingredients, cooking, presentation and style elevate it well above the usual. What aren't elevated are the prices - I thought it was excellent value. A great choice of sherries and wines too, also good value. Highly recommended but be sure to book well in advance to avoid disappointment.

I recently dined at this restaurant and had a delightful experience. I savored a variety of dishes including Boquerones Marinados, Monkfish, Ham Croquets, Saquitos de Cordero, Chorizo a la Sidra, Papas Bravas, Pimientos de Padron, and Calamares Fritos. Everything was incredibly delicious! Also loved the Sangria! Highly recommended for a flavorful culinary journey. This restaurant offers an authentic Spanish culinary experience. Don't miss out if you're looking for genuine Spanish cuisine!

bruh this place is so good, you have to go. Especially on a sunny day. The waiters are all chatting in Spanish, the sangria is legit, the food is INSANE. Whenever we go here in the sunshine, it really feels like you are actually on holiday. Who needs Ryanair when you've got Bar San Juan.

Fantastic place food staff and atmosphere. You feel like you you in taps bar in Seville. Between us had so many dishes all perfect 👌. The wine was also good match. We all enjoyed it vegetarians and not as the orders suit everyone and everyone one loved it. Wish we had room for the afters but we were full leaving that for next time.

Wondered if the hype is justified... It definitely is. Every dish delicious, particularly recommend the slow cooked beef cheek. Prawns, croquetas and patatas bravas all amazing but the beef cheek life changing

Amazing food and great service! Highly recommend everything on the menu. The best for us today was the Esparragos Trigeros.

After 10 years in Manchester I still find it difficult to explain the all buzz around this place. So today, after paying a respectful visit, I decided to share my modest opinion. I'm not going to mark Bar San Juan down for the fact that most tapas on the menu involve very little cooking, this comes with the fact that you decided to eat in a Spanish venue.... Having said that, you'd expect perfect tapas to justify such enthusiastic reviews. I come here very rarely, always invited by people raving about the place, and I must say I've never experienced any wow factor. Most negative notes: the bread was nothing special, some tapas way too much oily, some pairings on the menu didn't work for me, like for example the swordfish fried bites were lacking a dip element to make the plate less dry. On top of that, I am writing this 8h after my visit and I still fill my body wrapped in an overwhelming garlic sensation, which will be probably sticking with me for the foreseeable future. Despite Bar San Juan definitely not being my cup of tea, my review is still a quite generous 4 stars. After all, if you appreciate tapas more than other cuisines, this place will do the job for you. On the positives, the bread of ca' San Juan comes with a lovely and fresh tomato sauce, the potatoes are cooked to perfection and the staff was friendly enough. The interiors are pleasant, although it's a very small environment - I guess that adds to the character. I would personally reward with merit other places on the manchester scene, but fair play to this gaff for what they have achieved with so little effort. Enjoy your visit...

The best tapas and wine in Manchester. I live near by and always try and get in here a few times a month. The staff are fantastic and the decor is absolutely beautiful.

Great little place. Awesome atmosphere and even better food. Best tapas we had in a very long time. Highly recommended.

Has a great reputation and rightly so. Super busy even on a Thursday lunchtime. Food is amazing. 6 out of 7 of our dishes were 5*, the other 4*. We enjoyed chorizo, goats cheese, papas bravas, calamari, bread and manchego, washed down with sangria and Spanish beer. Monkfish was the highly, meaty and juicy and piping hot. Staff are jovial, loud in a good way and friendly. Environment is small but that just adds to the authentic atmosphere. A great place.

Authentic tapas... I love this place and been here a few times now. All staff are super friendly and welcoming. The food is delicious and never disappoints. The atmosphere indoors is so cosy and full of character. This is one of the nicest places to go eat in Manchester.

The best Tapas in Manchester? Probably…. Great food with a menu that doesn’t just offer the generic tapas that you get in most places. Very small and busy so book in advance!

This is the best Spanish tapas restaurant in Manchester area. Food was amazing and brought me back to Spain. Staff were friendly and attentive.

One of my favourite restaurants in Manchester. The food is outstanding, and the service is always really friendly. My only issue is the size of the place, which can't be helped but it does make the eating experience slightly cramped.

The food is absolutely amazing! Drink is fantastic too! Service is great, staffs are super friendly. The best tapas in Manchester! Will definitely come again! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

My favourite tapas restaurant!! However it’s been a couple of years since I last went. Since then the spanish omelette has been taken off the menu and the steak fillet was insanely salty! This was my only gripe! I’ve had it before and it wasn’t as salty as that, so I gave that as feedback to the staff, which was very welcomed! All in all, food is top here!

Best Spanish food I ate in UK. Is our favourite place to it in Manchester.

The best by far, Spanish waiters, all dishes a 10 out of 10, we feel like we are in Spain, black pudding from Burgos, ventresca with roasted peppers, cheeks, it is a typical bar in a town in Andalucia , Fito singing in the background, liquors like we could have the caballero punch or the catalan cream. Without a doubt we will go again, and the prices are not expensive, compared to others I saw cheap. También resaltar el personal, agradables y simpáticos, atención 10 de 10, rápidos y eficientes como en nuestra España.

Excellent service and very authentic Spanish food. Desserts were a tad bit disappointing but wonderful service made up for it!

Best dining experience I have had in so long! As an Spaniard living abroad (Ireland) I tend to be very judgemental when it comes to Spanish food and I must say the quality of the food was beyond my expectations! I loved everything I ate, the sangria, the atmosphere, decoration..everything! Delighted! No doubt I will be back if I am ever around again😊. Also very well looked after by Judit and the rest of the team, thank you😊

Came on a warm evening, sat out in the alley on the side and it was great, we even got offered a table inside when it freed up, but didn't want to change. Place was pretty full but the service was quick attentive and friendly. Menu was all favourites, the house wine good and we all had a lovely meal. It wasn't too pricey either. Believe all the hype as it is even better than they say it is.

Went there for some tapas for our 10 year anniversary, food was absolutely amazing, atmosphere was exactly what you'd hope it to be, staff super friendly...if it wasn't for the miserable Manchester weather, would be hard not to feel like you were in Spain...cant wait to go back.

Very disappointed with the way I was treated on my last visit, I go there almost twice a month spending a considerable amount of money and I have a disabled son who doesn't live with me and he couldn't make after testing positive for covid I asked for a take out and they said that they don't do that anymore, which is fair enough, but I said is there anything you can do for me and they point blank refused, then after speaking to another member of staff they said that if I would of ordered my food to the table and then asked about wrapping that up they would of done that for me, what a disgrace that is the last time we will eat there and give them my hard earned money, I have been eating and drinking in this bar since 2006. I am very disappointed that I have to write this 😡😡

Absolutely sublime - has to be the best octopus I've ever eaten, and everything else we had was equally delicious (including the sangria!).

  • 5/5 Tricia S. 1 year ago on Google
The food is absolutely delicious; best octopus I've had in ages. Lamb parcels and the baked veg with goats cheese were also highlights. Very good service too! Best to book ahead though as it was full on a Tuesday early evening - we ended up on the only table outside which isn't heated.

I went to celebrate my birthday, my son thought I’d like it, it was a beautiful sunny day and we sat outside in the sun, the service was impeccable and our server was nice polite and helpful, the food was just delicious and authentic, I’m not an expert but my lord it was tasty and every bit as good as the tapas I had in Barcelona if not better, I would recommend the beef cheeks in particular just so tasty.

Still can’t get over how great this little gem is. The food was super tasty. Amazing atmosphere and background music! Staff are friendly. Honestly THE BEST Spanish food I’ve tasted (given that I’ve been to Spain too…) no joke, try this out guys!
