Excellent British Restaurant parked in the midland hotel. Very nice cozy dining room. Very good value ala cart and set menus. Simple yet refined dishes made with very well sourced British produce. Flavors we bold and techniques we faultless. From the starters, mains and desserts everything was very good. Stand out dessert was the brown butter cake, perfect toasty butter flavor with a nice gooey texture. Their twist on a rhubarb crumble was interesting. Only gets 4/5 stars as the meal overall might have been a little heavy but probably due to the season and the dishes we ordered. Service was excellent and attentive. Cocktail menu was interesting. Well made and tasty. Overall a must go if your in the Manchester area.

I had breakfast here, and it’s interesting to have such deluxe breakfast in the U.K. I love the egg bar, and the chef who cooked the omelette for me was wonderful and lovely. The overall vibe therein was marvellous.

Food and atmosphere was quite nice, I really liked the experience overall. Only think I didn't like is that on the receipt there was 12% service charge that was not on the menu: the set menu was £40 and drink set menu was £35 so receipt should have only that. This service charge is like a scam

We arrived at 7.10 and the person seemed annoyed that we were late. We hadn't been told a time and had asked if we needed to book at check-in and were told no. The food was mediocre on the set menu or as the table next to us described "uninspiring". The tomatoes on the starter looked like they'd been in the kitchen a week and tasted bland. The sausage and mash was ok, the fish cakes seemed to have little cod in them. The brownie was v cold, surely you want a brownie oozing chocolate not solid. Breakfast was ok, cooked was good and there was an egg chef. The pastries were hard and over done. The coffee machine tasted like it needed a good clean. There was no salt in any of the salt shakers on the tables around me. One of the waiters found some for me though.

Great place. Amazing steaks and grills. Food was beautifully presented from starters to desserts. Wasn't a fan of the starters except the scallops. The kids menu is really boring and wouldn't recommend even for the price. It's basically nuggets or fish fingers so we ordered the cod from the main menu for toddler, which we enjoyed. Would go again for grills and drinks. Drinks and cocktails were good as well.

Lovely setting Staff very helpful and friendly. Pork Sunday lunch unedible. The roast potatoes weren't cooked inside and my pork was virtually all white large lumps of fat that wasn't cooked through.

Disappointing experience here for my birthday. Was taken as a treat by a friend who had prepaid for my meal. Started promisingly with two tasty starters of scallops and truffle mushrooms on toast with a poached egg. Really delicious. Main course, my partner chose the beef cheek (delicious) and I chose the 10z sirloin steak with peppercorn sauce and harissa salt chips. Then the wheels came off... I don't think the chips were salted at all. The peppercorn sauce was very sweet and not at all the peppery tang I'd hoped for. But the steak itself - 5oz of it was just pure fat. Pretty much inedible. I mentioned this to the lovely waitress who collected our plates and she agreed it was very fatty and said 'let me see what I can do'. Then watched her approach another staff member (youngish bearded guy in a suit), and show him the plate, at which point he then looked at our table and then shake his head! As if who we are and what we looked like made any difference to the fact that they served me a steak that looked like it had been cut from a blubber whale. One nice touch was a pre ordered happy birthday plate. Very nice surprise. Desserts we chose were the roasted pineapple and coconut - bother were not great. Ice cream was mostly melted on both by the time we got them. The first was a weird dessicated little shard of something coconutty and strange tasting pineapple. And the peanut butter and chocolate cheesecake was rich and claggy, which I'm afraid I found quite cloying. Honeycomb was good though. Then there was a long delay with the bill as the aforementioned bearded waiter forgot it. Then the bill was wrong which took more time to sort. And after all that they still added a service charge! And anywhere that charges £4.50 for a bottle of still water is just shocking in my book. Had high expectations but sadly only 3/6 dishes were decent and the service wasn't quite up to par - it felt a little chaotic. Not the best birthday experience alas. Photos supplied (note the fatty steak!).

I was surprised to see this restaurant on the Confidentials app, offering £25 vouchers for a £50 spend. I opted for the Confit Chicken and Morel Mushroom Terrine to start, followed by the Butternut Wellington for my main. I had no complaints about these dishes other than the portion size…miniscule! My friend ordered differently but found the same. When we got home, I pretty much made a second dinner. Perhaps we should have bought a voucher each, rather than sharing one. Drinks were expensive. Service was formal.

We had dinner Friday evening no atmosphere, staff were really not interested and most of the time there were no staff in the dining room. Food was good but annoyingly our mains were served whilst still eating starters and no apology. Felt rushed. Very very disappointing won't be returning BUT special shout to sommelier/mixologist who was so knowledgeable and enthiastic he's the only reason I gave you a star for customer service

Quite draughty as is so large, not great ambience. Went for romantic meal , but bright lights on no candles etc. Not a big choice of soup, just one...pea and watercress which wasn't the best. Snacks of Olives, which were lovely and sourdough bread only complaint was the frozen butter. Had a ribeye and hubby the sirloin, cooked to perfection, don't get why you have to buy sides if its a mains.? Ordered 2 portions fries and a bottle of red wine. Good food good server's, just very slow coming out of kitchen. Not cheap paid £173.

Excellent service, Great Location Stayed here for 4 nights as a conference attendee at Manchester Central, just walk on for a few minutes since it’s near by.. Breakfast was excellent, English breakfast with additional pastry, bread and so on, their staff were friendly (esp. Elisabete) and helpful

A really nice place for drinks in the bar area. The meal unfortunately wasn't the best. The chicken was dry and lukewarm and the vegetable side was tasteless. Shame because it should be better.

We booked for christmas day our serving was at 3.30. Our overall bill was £1100.00 £130.00 per head. The service was sloppy ,the main course lukewarm, parsnips burnt ,turkey rolled and hard and roast potatoes looked like they had been reheated. The baked aslaka christmas pudding dessert choosen by 6 ,all had to be returned. The christmas pudding base was frozen . Coffee and mince pies weren't served and after asking for them twice . The cups came without saucers and tea spoons dumped in the middle of the table. It took over 35 minutes fir drinks to be served. I really disappointing experience. We shared our experience with the manager ,who accepted the service was poor as they were under pressure and advised that other diners had returned desserts too. She offer a discount to try and recover the situation. It definitely wasn't a 4 star experience. Really disappointing

Had dinner here with a friend. Restaurant was not busy at all but the service was average. Starters were both very good but very small. Mains my friend said her veg and Brie pie was good but looked terrible and very small portion. My steak was over cooked ( should have been medium rare) and didn’t taste the best. Sauce was too thin and chips not cooked properly. Overall not what I expected from the Midland and won’t be going again

The fish pie was awful. It looked, felt and tasted like a pre-made pasta that had been said for a while or frozen. Everything thing else however was as delicious as ever. Once you've had you dessert they can seem to forget about you, and leave you sat waiting a good while trying to get the bill. Difficult to get their attention as they stop looking over at you.

Fantastic quality food and drinks. Good selection of cocktails, and easy to upgrade meal from the groupon voucher by just paying a supplement. Great service and will definitely be visiting again.

the food was amazing and couldn't fault it, desserts were spectacular and so were the pies. I didn't appreciate the seating plan, a spacious and empty restaurant but seating guests right next to each other when there was no need. Just nice to have a bit of privacy so wouldn't come back becasue of that. (Booked under name Aria kaiser)

Fantastic experience for dinner and breakfast. Very attentive and caring staff. Confusion with our bill, the manager resolved it swiftly offering us discount for the trouble. The food was incredible, 2 bone lamb was amazing. Thanks

The food was excellent. We had the sharing sirloin steak and it was cooked perfectly. We had cocktails and wine which were both lovely. However, with the exception of our specific server (unfortunately didn't get her name), we found the rest of the staff and the maitre d' quite rude which didn't make for a great atmosphere. I wouldn't come back or recommend as it didn't make for the nicest experience, even though the food and drinks were lovely.
