We are in our early 30s and were told by the bouncer we couldn’t access the club (Filthy Gorgeous) on a Tuesday night because it’s a student night. There’s no mention on the flyer or the website that it’s only for students plus the Facebook photos of Tuesday nights clearly showed people much older inside. We were not drunk or disorderly, quite the opposite. We are “ethnic” so we could only assume bouncer refused us based on prejudice (or of the owners of the club). Disappointing and won’t be spending any of my money here in future.

Such a sad and poor experience. I was poorly addressed and refused re-entrance after I stepped out to pick up a friend (and I had purchased a drink already). No questions asked but just got told “we can’t have you in here”- maybe because I’m black (no idea). This just happened. Update- I was there Tuesday, Oct 19 from about 8:50pm with 3 friends. We settled in, looked up the menu and 2 of us went to the bar to get drinks. At 9:12pm, my friend sent me a message that he was close by but wasn’t sure where I was (I was expecting him) so I went to bring him in and while about re-entering, I was addressed and told what I mentioned at the top. No question asked but just a statement that I can’t be there. This was done by a tall white male who was at the door around that time. He had another man and a lady with him. I just called my friends to come out and we left, left my drink too Cos I’ll rather spend my time some place that’s more respectful and inclusive.

Turning gay men away from a gay club because of their age really isn’t a good look. Sure its a student night. No problem with that at all. An hour earlier I was totally welcome upstairs in the bar, but not now in the club? Its a dull wet Tuesday night. Should be glad of the business. Crazy to see ageist stuff like this happening in our community. The least inclusive place I’ve ever been to. Amazed to be turned away from a gay space on canal st. Never happened me before. Spend your hard earned money elsewhere.

Always enjoyed going to filthy gorgeous on Tuesday nights and have been going for a few years now. The event has relatively stayed the same and would still be enjoyable to attend, that’s if the venue didn’t try to cram as many people in as possible. The last few times I have been now the place has allowed that many people in that it’s a physical struggle to move even an inch. I understand they want to make money and are in business but there comes a point when it becomes unsafe and unenjoyable. I think the management need to have a serious rethink about how they run this event or would even suggest that the event has outgrown the venue and should be moved to a bigger premises elsewhere. I feel it will not be long before a serious incident happens here if this is allowed to continue.

Really nice new bar on Canal Street. Clean unisex toilets and friendly staff. Drinks good prices too. Good refurb, will definitely go again.

I've not been here since it was queer. And was quite excited about it. I decided my drink of choice was a coke. I asked for a 'pint of coke'! They filled the glass to top with ice and then charged me £3.05!...thats right £3.05!...and you guessed it....for syrup coke. Boy did I make that drink last! I dread the think with the other drinks cost! Think it's pretty clear I won't return to purchase a drink. And before you reply with the copy pasted reply you've done to others about your sorry its not a positive rewiew rubbish....about actually making the change to make it a positive review....

Had an amazing Saturday night here with friends. Drinks were reasonably priced for the area, door staff were welcoming and staff were friendly. Inside was busy but not uncomfortably crowded and there wasn’t much wait for drinks at the bar while we were there. I’ll definitely be returning here next time I’m in the village!

Decent bar with friendly staff. A bit quiet when we went but I'm sure this place jumps if you go at the right time. Beer OK price, cocktails a little expensive unless you get the 241 offer, then it's a bargain.

Having slipped & fell due a spilt drink on the step of the illuminated dance floor I was thrown out by a bouncer who had accused me of being too drunk, I can assure you that I wasn't, I had only had a couple of drinks before the incident. Perhaps he could benefit from some training to learn how to assess a situation before making a judgement, maybe even check to see if the customer is ok after an accident. As it is I have a grazed elbow & possibly a broken finger, (the bouncer on the door was great & got me a couple of napkins to clean up my elbow). If it wasn't for the actions of that bouncer I would have given 5 stars.

Good staff and selection of drinks, very convenient seating area near the bar. Could do with a sign for the urinals, the number of people that don't realise...

I was extremely disappointed to be told the club had closed for entry. When I returned 10 minutes later, I saw people having their IDs checked and being let in. I have been to this venue multiple times in the past; I won’t be returning if they are now going to be very selective on the door (our group consisted of 2 x of us in our mid 20s and 2 x of us in our 30s). Update: this was around 2am this morning. There was no mention that the venue was at capacity - it was a very clear, “we’re closed for entry” now.

Awful, disgusting treatment from door thug staff. Particularly an elder black man who was aggressive and rude for no reason whatsoever. We were refused entry, when we asked politely why, he scrunched up his face and shouted we were too old, and apparently it was student night, on a Tuesday evening. Pure discrimination, my friend and I are both in our 30's, not that it matters. We could be in our 50's and should still be allowed to enter. What this bar are doing is illegal. Would not expect this from a place that is supposed to be an inclusive, LGBTQI+ establishment. I will be taking this to the city council and press. Go to any other bar on Canal Street and you will have a much better night.

Nice bar and atmosphere, with a good selection of drinks. Visit this bar often, however last night some of the bar staff weren’t interested in serving. Standing round in a group talking, whilst customers are waiting. Supervisor had a word with them, but a couple need to smile more and have less of an attitude

Usually love going to Brewers, especially on a Tuesday but the bouncers are incredibly awful. My friend asked one of of the younger bouncers on on the door if there was a cloak room to which he replied “I don’t know and I don’t care”. He’s the same bouncer who just comes in and drags random people out. I honestly think he gets off on being able to manhandle lgbt people without consequence. The other bouncers are incredibly rude too and don’t care about any issues you raise to them. Brewers is supposed to be an lgbt safe space but the bouncers there seem not to care about their duty in protecting this community. They seem to enjoy laughing at us, throwing us around and talking down to as if we are less than them. Would honestly advise you go elsewhere because brewers is no longer a safe space. I feel sorry for the bar staff and the queens as they are genuinely lovely.

used to live in Clapham and was never a fan of the two brewers but the brewers in Manchester is way better!! have been here a few times now and always have a great time, staff are great too especially Luke!

Unfortunately the door staff are rude and obnoxious. Told me I was too drunk and stumbling. I have been dry now for 8 years so I’m pretty sure the alcohol is no longer in my system 😂 I have visited The Brewers about 7 times. 2 of those times I have been told I’m too drunk. Same door staff both times. Bar is nice and the entertainment is spot on.

I'd say this place is a really positive addition to the street. Nice clean and tidy venue, and a really diverse bunch of people which was really good. Enjoyed a few outside drinks last year during covid and the table service was very attentive. Toilets are well kept, and general maintenance of the bar seems good. I think this place adds to the overall regeneration of a once tired looking street. Can't wait to come back! Oh and dogs are allowed in too! He loves it.

Great addition to canal street!! Love the filthy gorgeous nights and the staff are top notch! Cant fault this venue in the slightest, welcoming atmosphere with a reasonably priced cocktail menu. Just what canal street needs!

I have been in the Brewers twice recently. Its very nicely decorated and comfortable inside. The Cocktails are 2 for 1 which is fab. On a nice day you can sit outside and the atmosphere in the village is vibrant and fun.

Had the best night here, filthy gorgeous was a cracker. Just want to say thank you to the doorstaff, especially Richie, he was very welcoming, friendly and didn't judge us because we wasn't from the area. He made our night. Pleasure to your venue. Thanks again brewers x

Fantastic bar and a great addition to Manchester's Gay Village. The staff are lovely, the 2-4-1 cocktails are supberb and the overall atmosphere is great. Absolutely one of my go-to bars for a night out on Canal Street .

Fabulous bar! The cocktails were delicious and Roger the drag queen looked SPECTACULAR! The bar staff were really friendly, too, and one even went above and beyond and brought my drinks to the table, which was so kind and unexpected! I love the fact that this bar had gender neutral toilets, too. Would 100% go here again!

this place never fails to deliver!. great party atmosphere upstairs and downstairs with great events, including tribute bands, every week. A remarkably inclusive and safe venue with great door and bar staff. It's weekly Tuesday event, Filthy Gorgeous is well worth a visit with an amazing vibe with drag queens and a fantastic club atmosphere. This place embraces the gay culture and represents true quality in drink choices including cocktails but more importantly represents what canal Street has to offer in terms of entertainment and repeat visits that never fail to deliver. highly recommended.

👍👍 I was craving curry during my stay in Manchester. And Google suggested this place to me. It's in the centre, almost 6 minutes away from my hotel. The interior design is very hip and it has a great vibe. The music that is being played is modern. The curry was amazing. And the prices were perfect for...
