It’s been disaster tonight. We where on our way home looking for decent traditional German food. Die Kartoffel!! Way good reviews, interesting location and praised food, yes let’s go there since it is just a quick detour from A5. The variety of potato dishes disappointing. The baked potato we ordered were drowning in sauce with souer tast and way to much pepper sprouts. The meat we did not order once we saw the way it was served on our adjacent table. Even they complained about it and mentioned the poor quality as well as service by the time they left to us and the waitress. So in conclusion: The expectations were really high and so was the disappointment in the end… if you look for good service and a proper selection that fits the Name potato go someplace else. Reading the menu in dim light and on uncomfortable chairs/benches was problematic that’s for starters…

Amazing as always!!!! This time due to Corona we sat outside were now some tables can be found. The meal was amazing as always! The staff, nice and professional also as always. In resume, Die Kartoffel never disapoints me! And of course we will return again!

Authentic old German food. Limited menu but mad good food. You gotta get the steak and potatoes… its just a must. You cook ya own steak so its get done exactly as u like it. 3 home sauces on the side and a butter or sour cream soaked baked potato. Atmosphere is cool. Old farm decor low ceilings and wood beams.

Absolutely the best restaurant for German food in Germany. I've been coming here for over 10 yrs, and I always bring visiting friends and family. Everything is delicious, the staff is actually friendly, and they have an awesome vegetarian selection, too! 10 stars if i could. Get you some kartoffel!

This Steak was AMAZING. The place is small and just a couple staff members so you need to be patient but it’s worth the wait. The potato and homemade sour cream are delicious. Definitely worth returning to. 🙏🏼🙌🏼

Food was very good and service was great. Our waitress was very friendly and attentive.

I loved cooking my steak on a hot rock! The steak was one of the most tender and flavorful I have ever had! The staff was kind and efficient.

Always a pleasure going to "Die Kartoffel". Took my wife here on a date when we first met 19 years ago and we love to come back when we pass through Germany. The food is delicious, the ambience is amazing and the town of Ladenburg is wonderfully quaint. Always a 5 start experience. PS I strongly recommend the lamb...

Absolutely wonderful quaint beautiful little restaurant. The steak in the lava rock was amazing and the homemade sauces were delicious. I've book marked this restaurant so I can visit again. Highly recommended.

A very unique concept of steak dining. You will decide on how well your steak is, coz you are making it on your own! They will present the raw meat on top of a mega sizzling stone (imported from Italy) 👌🏽

Built in 1683 this building has had several uses. It is now a restaurant serving salad and meats that you cook on your own Lava stone. This is very enjoyable but do take care as it is extremely hot! The staff are very friendly and accommodating, especially with Coeliacs. The desserts are good too.

This is my favorite place to eat when I'm in Germany. I've been here now a few times, and I've since looked for similar places and unfortunately have nothing close to Die Kartoffel. The potatoes are absolutely delicious with that sour creamey topping goodness, and then aren't even as good as the meat. For some reason, I really enjoy getting a raw cut of steak, and being able to take it off right when I think it is ready. For the sauces, I only actually like the red one, but damn if it isn't a super delicious dipping sauce. It is a bit pricey, but if your anywhere close come visit. The town is also a really cool historic old town with authentic architecture and dates of the buildings right on them. Plus the staff we've had every time has been awesome.

It was such a pleasant meal. The hot stone fillet steak was so good that we finished it within 10 min. The atmosphere and service are both excellent and the price is fair. Our waiter was very kind and gave us complimentary digestive brandy after meal. If you are in Ladenburg don’t miss this lovely place. Highly recommended.
