Diner beware! We popped in for a lunch on a Friday, after seeing ‘Fish & chips’ advertised outside the establishment. We were shown to a table hidden in the rear of the restaurant. I had to request a table which I had seen was vacant in a brighter, airier section. We ordered the Fish & chips and a pot of tea for two. The tea came with a pot of hot water (plus point)! We waited for the meal. It arrived a little later. We were surprised at first as I did not see the fish. The ready made sauce tartare was there. Some mashed watery tasteless frozen peas were also in a pot. Then I found the fish impersonating a large chip. The description should have said ‘Bloated fish finger’. It tasted very good as did the chips, but I would not call it a main portion, more like sample size taster. If you do visited this establishment I would ask what is the weight of the main protein item before you decide to order. I attach a picture so you may judge for yourself. The fish is next to the lemon, they are about the same size. And just to add my partner’s fish was even smaller!

No clear sign of NO SMOKING on terace, you might order THEN you realise this is not the right place to enjoy a cofffee and a cigarette. Staff not quite capable to deal with a complaint - what a lame idea, to put a table on pavement in the way of pedestrians! - no manager or owner available, no refund. On short: an embarrassing exprtience, please go somewhere elrse, this place don't deserve your custom. To the admin that replied: The four signs that you talk about are not visible, are around the corner, as I've said, is possible to come, go in, buy something, and then realise you can't enjoy what you just paid - anyway, your cocky answer just prove me right in giving you a star. One more thing: as a tourist I can make as many spelling mistakes, would not change a bit from my review. BTW, aside my mother tongue, I speak and write decently another six languages, which, for sure, is not your case.

Food is really good. We had the pan fried salmon with wild rice and watercress sauce, steak and ale pie, and also two slices of cakes. The cakes were the chocolate fudge and the rainbow cake. All of them were absolutely delicious. The reason for 4 stars is due to very long waiting time. We waited for 40 minutes for the food to come out and my tea was already cold by then. The restaurant still had a few empty tables (60% full), so I’m not sure what the hold up was due to. Other customers were also complaining due to the wait time. I definitely wouldn’t recommend coming on busy periods.

Saturday brunch visit for 2.5 people. Nice tables in and outside, outside orders must approach till to order, food then brought out to you, simple. Good quality, locally sourced ingredients where possible, components of full English were all delicious, eggiest egg in the county I'm sure. Many, many cakes and sweet treats available. Accessibility ok, several lumps and bumps to be expected from an old building. Baby changing surprisingly available, and can be reached by both male and female side of the toilets! Ingenious. Parking is always a downside in town, just keep looping, or park behind the main high street, follow signage. Marked to 4 instead of 5 stars down to value, it is rather pricey, but worth it as a treat once in a while!

A warm, welcoming dainty tearoom that offers a wide variety of cakes and amuse bouche. I had the most wonderful waitress who was friendly attentive and even directed me to a few local spots to check out after my dining with them. Would 100% go again next time I’m in town.

Having read some of the reviews I think these people must have been very unlucky. My wife and I had lunch in this establishment today, the service was friendly, quick and very efficient. The food, baked potato and a chicken Caesar salad were well presented, very tasty and a good size for lunch.

I’m absolutely shocked… we used to go to Polly’s on a regular basis and really enjoyed ourselves, atmosphere and food. Went back today for the first time in several months and it was so disappointing! Waited to be seated (not enough staff but it also wasn’t busy), menu has changed and is no longer so appealing and now restricted! We waited to place our order. What we ordered was ok, but not what we used to enjoy! Staff were friendly, but also seemed to be lacking the locals who used to eat there. Spoke to another local lady who confirmed things had changed at Polly’s and only negatives had been heard! It’s such a shame, as it was great before, sometimes change isn’t always for the best!! Sadly also felt it was overpriced for what it was!

Went for lunch but had the full English breakfast, all other breakfasts stop serving at 11:30. Was a lovely place with great service.

On a Sunday food can be slow to arrive. Great value but eggs are often overcooked and food warm. Don't come here if you're in a hurry. A window table with friends for a long breakfast is a thing of joy. Just not the food.

Have visited several times over recent years but today was a disappointment. Asked whether the business has changed hands as the difference was marked. 2 cream teas for nearly £20, table was so sticky the menus stuck to it, menus falling to bits, tea stewed before arrived, 1 scone each, looked bought in and texture was all wrong, soft cake like texture, jam cheap, flat bottomed cups didn’t fit saucers. Not world changing issues but disappointing experience, quality and quaintness seem to have disappeared.

Absolutely disgraceful. Cold breakfast, raw sausage, dry toast, black pudding stone cold and rubbery eggs. Excuse of new chef and he is unattended was given. Cup of water had dust floating in it and glasses on table were filthy. Don’t see what the hype is about. Would definitely not recommend for breakfast. Staff were apologetic but I don’t want to wait another 25 mins for a new breakfast.

Ordered the fish finger sandwiches plus a portion of chunky chips. The sandwiches were substantial with large fish fingers. Thought I had a good appetite but only just managed to finish the meal. Accompanied by a pit if tea plus additional pot of hot water. All good. Matched by excellent service. Would definitely go again.

Came here on New Years Day with my girlfriend after we biked from Swindon on the old railway path, we had some nice food and hot chocolate, staff were friendly and it was nice and warm inside. I had avocado, bacon and egg on sourdough toast, very tasty.
