We were recommended this pub for Sunday lunch as good food & reasonable prices.. well they delivered .. & some! Served by the wonderful Trish, amazing roast lamb, mushroom & Stilton Wellington & good old scampi... omg.. big portions, cooked to perfection, great service & polished off with the best Eton Mess Sundae I've ever had.. Would definitely recommend! Thank you & well done!

Stayed for 3 nights. Lovely room but a bedside lamp would have made a huge difference. Staff were excellent. All very friendly and extremely helpful. Shame about the sausage at breakfast. Everything was good value for money, would definitely return 🌹

A comfortable hotel in the historic market town of Marlborough. A comfortable room and free parking to the rear, don't forget to register your car on arrival. Bar and restaurant were fine, a good breakfast served. Staff were friendly. All in all, no problem 😊

The staff are very friendly helpful and informative about the area . One member of staff does go the extra mile ( Wendy ) She is a real credit to the company. We have seen her now on 2 occasions and each time she has been so welcoming and pleased to see us like long lost friends. However we felt that the room was looking a little tired and dark ,and could do with a refurbishment along with some of the public areas around the pub.

The location is central and is on the High Street. There is on site parking. The room was clean and spacious, a little tired, but the shower was strong. The staff were clearly busy juggling the bar and reception but were polite and helpful. I am sorry to see the reply from the owner, being upset. The staff were all very pleasant, just busy. No offence intended.

Eaten here so many times now!, the food is well prepared, good choice, well priced and the service is very good indeed! Can highly recommend & will certainly return. Staff are very friendly, helpful & accommodating. A real gem in the Marlborough high street!

Nice pub, friendly staff, great central location. Food is decent but a chain pub rather than country pub style. There is nothing wrong with it, but probably not from local producers, i had the fish and chips but a very skinny fillet and not much batter, tasty enough just lacking a little something.

A warm pleasant place to have breakfast. Only vegetarian breakfast no vegan on menu but staff were very apologetic and helpful. Good service . Unfortunately I won't be going anymore as the prices have gone up I'm not paying £10 - it's too much food anyway need smaller plates.

Local pub in the middle of the High Street. We stopped off for a rest and a drink after a long car journey. Decent pub and good location . Also offers food and accommodation

Very creaky floorboards. We moved around carefully. We did not want to upset other guests. We did not eat here. The staff were delightful. There's free parking.

A decent pub with a lot of space for eating. Sadly we were told that the kitchen was closed despite their website stating it was open for another hour, but we understand that there was an event on that evening. Ok service, not a great selection of drinks in comparison to other local pubs.

We have consistently had good food at the Castle & Ball. The atmosphere is good and the staff we have met are friendly! This is a great pub on the High Street

Food was underwhelming, so was the service. Nice ambience and feel to the restaurant. (We weren't staying in the rooms.) App didn't work properly, apparently sometimes the drink orders don't carry through when you order online.. Through their own app?! So after finishing our starter we had to go to the bar and ask on the drinks. Sorry to say, won't be going back there. Luckily lots of choice on the high street.

Party of 9 visiting after dinner for drinks only. Great atmosphere, great service, selection of games to play and the food menu looked great. We will be returning!

I can't rate the staff at The castle and Ball highly enough. After being badly let down by another local restaurant they fitted us in very last minute for dinner, for 11 people for my 50th Birthday celebration meal. The staff were fabulous, polite and friendly, super attentive and so helpful. So much choice on the menu, it was hard to choose. The food arrived really quickly, especially as there were lots of us, and it was all beautifully cooked and tasted amazing! Very well priced, and such a great atmosphere about the place. You made my evening very special and everybody really enjoyed it! Thank you We will be back!!

Very busy with Xmas parties at the time of visit but the staff were coping well with good humour. Room at the bar and a very pleasant and informative bar lady made the visit a must. Didn't go into the hotel.

Stayed here for 2 night's room n0 6 , very nice room with slanting floors and creaky floor boards. We had booked bed and breakfast which was very nice and it set you up for the day. The only negative was it was over the side door and the smoking area so you had slight smell of smoke coming into the room. The staff we're absolutely wonderful polite and helpful. The young lady in the bar at night with the coloured hair was very polite and welcoming so top marks to her for her service she gave us 👏👏👏. Yes I would recommend staying here it has free parking when you check in at the reception, in all we had a wonderful weekend. Thank you to all the staff.

I’m local, so am here about once a month. Staff were polite, and service speedy; but food sub-par tonight, aspects bordering on disgusting. Burgers not their usual quality, tasted like something you’d get at a primary school fete. Crispy chicken was too dry to even consume, despite the irony that the ‘crispy’ coating was soggy and mushy. The ‘Kiev’ sauce was actually vomit-inducing, like they found a shipment of the nasty fake butter-shake from the 80’s, and decided to add water and use it instead of actual butter and garlic. Complained to the waiter and sent my barely touched plate back. Waiter came back and said chef would take my feedback under consideration. I sent back a nearly full meal, and there was no offer of replacement or refund. I will never return here, and my husband’s so annoyed, he’s going to tell all his colleagues at the college how awful this place has become! Gave 2 stars, as others were starving, and consumed burgers (but wouldn’t recommend).

Decent hotel. Visited for two nights whilst in the area. Staff are overworked; mostly pleasant but clearly find it difficult to raise a smile. Breakfast was good but better venues are on the excellent High Street. Rooms are to a good standard. Ours overlooked the High Street itself and was a good size if a little short on sockets and with a number of wall switches whose purpose was inexplicable.

Not great. Booked because the feature highlighted dish on the menu; the Risotto looked good, but the Risotto was not available. So we ordered steaks, but Dylan (Dillon?) told us we couldn’t have both the surf & turf prawns AND a sauce, so we had to fight for that, the steak was not great quality. Nobody asked us if our food was satisfactory. The fries were not fresh cooked. The tomato was over cooked. The prawns were small. The service was average. Shame.

We stopped off in Marlborough on the way home and wanted to have a Sunday lunch. There were plenty of places to choose from, but we didn't know the area and after checking others out we figured that the castle and ball looked good. When we discovered that it was a Greene King maybe we should have set our expectations lower, but then how can you go wrong with a roast?? My wife had the beef roast and I had the trio of meat roast. The potatoes were way overcooked and very dry, inedible, as was the Yorkshire pudding. There was a poor we excuse for crackling on the plate. The vegetables looked like they'd been served to somebody else, left and then put back on my plate! The meat tasted stale, but thank God for English mustard. Highly disappointed and to avoid disappointment I would suggest you walk on and just don't eat here.

Really convenient location right in the centre of Marlborough. Helpful staff. Room very clean and spacious and I loved the quirkiness if the uneven floor. Breakfast was generous but not the best sausage I have ever tasted. Arch to the right of the pub as you face it will get you to a good sized car park. No plugs next to the bed so couldn't easily charge my phone which is my alarm so it needs to be near me. WiFi was poor. I was in Room 12 which is the very end of the property but good wifi is no longer an optional extra. A strange hole in the room.door which would have been an easy repair.

We previously met a friend for a drink here as it's half way between where we both live, decided to have food tonight, and it was great. Everyone really enjoyed their food. Beer was good. Friendly staff and a relaxed atmosphere. Can't ask for more. Will now be our regular meeting place.

Located in the centre of town parking for this pub is generally easy with plenty of options available; also easy to walk to. It’s a Green King so ordering at the table is simple using the app, make sure you know your table number. Inside the establishment is done out really well, aesthetically pleasing with plenty of space. The place was clean and tidy, the staff warm and welcoming. There are a mixture of tables with wooden chairs and more comfortable seating. The food is standard pub fair, nothing special but a decent standard to fill a hole. The menu options are good, plenty to choose from! Service was fast and efficient, based on this experience I would go again and recommend a visit.

Really great location in the centre of Marlborough, a great base to explore the local area. A good selection of food and drinks as per usual Greene King standards. Staff were brilliant, rushed off their feet but still really helpful and polite! Hotel side is a bit tired, very creaky floors and aging decor but our room was great overall, especially size wise. The only real downside was that the towel rail was on full blast with no way to turn it off on a HOT weekend. Had to leave windows wide open all night just to be able to sleep in the adjoining bedroom 🥵

When looks can be deceiving... Chicken burger swimming in oil. Starter platter was tasteless, only the chicken strips could be rated as acceptable. Salmon skin was soft, meat cooked well but the garnish potato was undercooked and the peas cold. Would not recommend.

Allow dogs inside plus separate garden outside rear of pub plus tables at the front. Great Sunday menu, side sizes were excellent and very tasty gravy. Nachos wonderful....prices for the size of the portions were good. We'd visit again for sure. Staff were friendly as well.

We don't stay here but do eat regularly, the menu is just what you want to eat. Nothing over priced or pretentious. Gluten free options available. Sunday roast much enjoyed by all. Car parking for guests and restraunt users only. Pooch friendly. Welcoming staff are happy to help.

The rooms were very tired, leather headboards warn, and room and bathroom needs redecorated. Large size room and plenty of space in bathroom. Food good value and very busy ensure you book beforehand. The downfall was that on Fri and Sat night the bar closed at 10.30 event hough we were staying there the staff were not willing to keep the bar open for our group of 19.

A colossal disappointment. I expected more from a place on the famous Marlborough high street. Staff is kind, tables are sticky. £12 for a battered chicken burger, consisting of a cheap bun, a small, burnt piece of chicken, oil draining out of it upon biting into it, two small slice of tomato and lettuce, one small slice of onion. On the side 3 greasy onion rings and some edible skin fries. I had an upset tummy all evening. Will not return.

Enjoyed a lovely stay at the Castle and Ball. Lovely rooms and food. The staff were also so friendly and helpful. Hope to return again soon. Thank you. 😊

Just had lunch here, I requested a refund of my chicken as it was far too oily and my fries were cold, also no rosemary seasoning. I was given a refund but told it would be oily as its deep fried! I responded with it should be drained to ve told they don't when it's busy!

Stayed here for a post Christmas break. Fabulous welcome at checkin and upgraded to a suite without asking. Room was huge with old antique furniture, creaky floorboards etc but what you would expect for a very old building. Everything we needed for a very comfortable stay. Staff at the bar were very accommodating. Food was delicious and piping hot. The breakfast was lovely too. Plenty of choice of cereals and pastries. The cooked breakfast was nice, and very good quality. Marlborough High Street is wide and well laid out with beautiful individual shops, cafes and a few little pubs. The buildings are very old and quirky. Eoukd highly recommend for a chilled out break away. Absolutely loved our stay here! We will definitely be back!

My stay here was fantastic from begining to end. The staff were brilliant, polite and very helpful. The room was great couldnt fault it. Id not been to Marlborough for 15yrs and Clare the duty manager brought me up to speed with the missing info to make my reminiscing visit all that more enjoyable. So thanks Clare for that. I totally recommend the hotel for either a short or extended stay.

I love the atmosphere in this place , which is located in the centre of this beautiful market town. Comfortable seating in the lounge area. Marked down because I found the muzak irritating - so loud as to be intrusive and a totally unsuitable choice for what would otherwise be a genteel place to enjoy a quiet lunch or afternoon tea. I was not impressed by the fact that our corner table was stabilised by paper stuffed under its legs either! Disappointed there was no fire, considering the weather outside. Appearance in the bar area seemed just a little "tired". These are things that could be remedied fairly easily. The lady who served us was friendly, helpful and efficient. We'll be back, in the hope that it'll be better next time!
