When
my
20-year-old
African
Grey
parrot
laid
her
first
egg,
a
week
before
we
were
planning
to
move,
I
decided
it
was
time
to
take
her
to
a
vet.
Luckily
Pine
Tree
had
been
on
my
radar
as
a
local
Avian
Vet
when
I
saw
someone
with
their
chicken
in
the
Vet
parking
lot
a
few
month
prior.
My
Grey,
Baby,
was
accustomed
to
getting
her
talon,
wings,
a
beak
trimmed,
lovingly
referred
to
as
a
mani/pedi/beak
polish
and
we’d
travel
to
whichever
pet
store
our
long
time
trimmer
was
employed
at
BUT
the
egg
laying
was
a
whole
new
thing
and
I
wanted
to
make
sure
my
bird
was
not
only
in
good
health
but
that
we
had
someone
to
go
to
incase
something
went
wrong,
now
that
she
is
laying.
I
was
also
concerned
about
the
Bird
Flu
and
felt
it
might
be
time
to
stop
going
to
the
pet
store
and
go
someplace
cleaner.
We
saw
Dr.
Ferguson
on
our
first
visit,
Baby
did
well
with
the
exam,
enjoyed
the
mani/pedi/beak
polish
and
the
Dr.
answered
my
questions,
confirmed
Baby’s
decades
old
id
chip
was
working
and
had
the
updated
information.
Since
Baby
was
at
ease,
I
asked
about
removing
her
ankle
bracelet.
Noticing
that
the
stamp
on
Baby’s
bracelet
said
TX
97
Dr.
Ferguson
told
us
how
typically
birds
from
Texas
road
up
on
a
bus
and
that
the
ride
was
tough,
especially
coming
all
the
way
to
Washington.
When
Baby
got
home
that
evening
she
was
talking
about
her
adventure
to
the
Vet
and
was
showing
everyone
at
the
house
her
ankle
with
no
bracelet,
informing
everyone,
“I’m
from
Texas
and
I
don’t
like
the
bus!”
I
took
that
to
mean
that
Dr.
Ferguson
was
correct
about
the
trip
from
Texas
and
was
very
knowledgeable
about
birds.
Through
the
next
several
years
we
also
saw
Dr.
Zellar
for
annual
exams
and
other
Vet
Technicians
for
mani/pedi/beak
polishing.
Everyone
was
always
very
nice
and
the
front
desk
always
professional,
compassionate,
and
good
about
following
up
with
questions
and
concerns.
You
can
tell
that
the
Staff
worked
as
a
Team,
and
they
understand
that
pets
are
a
part
of
the
family.
Unfortunately,
there
did
come
a
time
when
Baby
did
end
up
having
a
collapsed,
bound
egg
and
we
had
to
take
her
in.
Again,
the
Staff
was
very
accommodating,
provided
updates
each
time
we
called.
It
was
Dr.
Ferguson
who
called
to
give
us
the
bad
news
that
Baby
was
in
pain,
her
liver
was
failing,
and
she
had
a
heart
murmur
due
to
the
blockage.
Even
in
the
toughest
of
tough
times,
the
entire
Staff
was
wonderful,
not
only
to
Baby
but
to
us
as
well
as
we
came
to
say
our
final
good-bye.
Dr.
Ferguson
assured
us
that
nothing
could
be
done,
that
we
didn’t
do
anything
wrong
or
could
have
done
something
different,
and
told
us
that
she
often
sees
this
with
female
Greys
around
age
25/26
years
old.
As
the
doctor
told
me
this,
I
remembered
the
story
about
the
bus
and
getting
Baby’s
ankle
bracelet
removed.
I
was
thankful
and
still
am,
that
Dr.
Ferguson
and
Pine
Tree
Vet
was
there
for
us
throughout
the
years.
They
are
a
truly
wonderful
place
to
take
your
fur
and
feathered
loved
ones.
