This was a nice, “local” experience. I stopped by to get a quick breakfast. The staff and waitress was friendly and patient with my questions. I ordered poached eggs and sausage - i really enjoyed the sausage. Overall, it was an enjoyable breakfast and I would definitely go back. Just know that parking is a bit challenging. The lot is small and you enter on the side street. But there seems to be street parking with a minor walk.

One of, if not the single best diner experience of my life. I don't say that with a hint of hyperbole, I went on Saturday at 12pm, so it was peak busy. And yet, despite that, I was seated immediately, ordered my food about a minute later and no exaggeration, I probably only waited about what felt like 5 minutes tops for my meal to come out. Everything was cooked perfectly to specification, they even had Gluten Free toast and as someone who has simultaneously lived in NJ his whole life (and we are filled to the brim with diners) and has been on a gluten free diet for over a decade, I had never seen this option offered elsewhere. Leah (I hope I'm spelling her name right) was delightful, efficient, courteous and professional. I don't often write reviews, but the service was so exceptional that I felt compelled to do so. If I ever find myself in the Union area again, I'd make it a priority to stop in again should I need a bite to eat.

I enjoyed myself at Park Wood Diner. We were a big party and our waitress Colleen handle us like a pro! I opted for the Beyond Meat Burger everything tasted freshly made right down to the pickel! As you can see I started eating before taking the picture. 😁 This place is a nice Saturday morning start of your day.

Ordered from there for the first time. I ordered the hungryman breakfast with scrambled eggs, French toast and bacon. When I picked it up I saw the dessert and grabbed a slice of apple pie 🥧. Bacon, eggs and home fries were perfectly cooked. I did a little dance when I saw they included whipped butter for my French toast. However it’s unsalted and has literally no flavor. I’ve never had whipped butter that was tasteless. The French toast which I wanted MOST was barely battered. Had very little flavor to it. So basically toast, I was very disappointed. And I couldn’t help but have a few bites of the apple pie. Which I thought I would finish but it has the weirdest aftertaste that I cannot bring myself to finish it. And some of the apples are thick chunks so they are still raw. This is very unappetizing as well…I mean it’s APPLE PIE how do you screw that up? I’m disappointed. I wanted to love this place. But I just can’t see paying $20 for breakfast and pie and it tastes mediocre…diners often think if they just put the food out they’re good. But it should taste good as well.

Omg the staff is so polite, u don't feel outta place, the food is soooo damn good/ not greasy. They talk and remember us and we just started going here. Closed on Tuesday, which to me they need a break cuz their packed non stop but not over crowded to the you'll worried Abt covid. I love the hairstyles of the waitresses, personalities and outgoing spirits. Even the host at the front where you pick up is lovely. Can't get no feeling better than your own home. We had more food than this but forgot pics because every time we go in,we just want to eat from the smell alone lol Need more places like this. This is not an employee or manager but real customer. Don't take my word for it. Go for self Goldie

I really tried to give it a chance, and I have, numerous times, just can't seem to match how it was when I first moved here. I like the atmosphere of the diner and the staff is great, but the food is just ok. And in these times where people are pinching pennies it's an expense to skip

The waitress (in your photos) was phenomenal. She made my family feel as if we were at home! We will no longer eat at the Maplewood diner, because they robbed us. Also the Parkwood diner service wise as well as food wise is far superior. I highly recommend this place.

Pretty darn good dinner. Staff is very friendly, tables are clean, space is well designed and the food is good. The pancakes and french toast are excellent. The omlettes are huge, but the barbarian one was too cheesy. Italian one was pretty on point. Overall I'd probably go back again. There's more to try on the menu!

Great diner! Good food, cozy atmosphere and nice people! The grilled cheese, potato salad, pickle and fries were SO good.

One of my favorite spots for a latte or great homestyle diner meal. My personal favorite is the “hungry man” which is an affordable big dish featuring all the Classics: pancakes French toast Taylor ham and hash-browns. Add a vanilla latte and you’re sure to have a great afternoon.

Stuffed avocado salad is a must have! Delicious!!! I am not giving 5 stars because the restaurant was not clean enough and the steak that we choose medium well was cooked too much.

It was my first time there and I will be coming back. I LOVE IT. Wish we had one in Hampton, Virginia. Got me an apple turnover to take home🥰

Food is average at best. My initial meal was flounder francese but it was very mushy, tasteless, and flounder not fresh. The owner hesitated to allow me to change my order sighting that “what’s gonna happen with this food now? I can’t take that back. Only after I insisted that the food was tasteless and bad was I allowed to change. I had the order replaced and although a little tastier it was disappointing.

Friendly staff. Never disappointed and have always dined in the room with all the windows. Menu items are plentiful. Family oriented. I've always seem them full of customers. But, never waited longer than 5 mins. Likely due to plenty of dining space. Truely the heart of a Jersey Diner. Nowhere near enough spaces in their parking lot. But there is plenty of parking very nearby.

Good people and good eats. Grew up in NJ and I came from Long Island for a taste of home. Parkwood came through, thank you!!

Parkwood has my favorite diner for over 10 years. Even though I don't live in NJ any longer, went I come to visit, Parkwood is on my list. Went home for Thanksgiving week and still snuck off twice that week. The owners have always been great people. Happy Holidays Parkwood.

I was recently eating here on Sunday 7/2 with my family and had one of the worst and most shocking experiences of my life. My family and I were seated in the back dining room next to the door that has a ramp to the back lot. My cousin and I were seated with our backs to the door and a severely disabled gentleman in a wheelchair is coming through the door and grabs an entire handful of her hair and won’t let go for several seconds. I obviously jump up to help release his grip from her hair which caused a scene in the dining room. At no point did the waitress, manager, or owner come by to check on us and make sure everything was okay. Despite that unfortunate incident we decided to stay as we had already placed our order. A few minutes later a 15-person+ baseball team comes in and is seated in the back dining room and starts to get loud (as expected). I find the manager and kindly ask if we can grab a booth that is being cleaned off a few feet away and he proceeds to argue with me about how he can’t move us and we’re already seated and such. I kindly remind him that it’s a simple request and that the customer is always right but still more pushback. As a final attempt I say that we can either take the booth or we can leave and he continues with pushback. We decided to leave at that point. We are relatively new Maplewood residents and love to support local establishments on a frequent basis but we will never ever return to Park Wood diner and I encourage you to do the same. Zero acknowledgment for an unfortunate incident paired with an unprofessional manager means they will never get another dollar or recommendation from me. Try Maplewood Village for warm and welcoming service next time.

Perfect classic diner experience. Large, delicious menu. Clean restaurant. Fast and very courteous service. Parking out back. They even have some vegan options such as hummus and Beyond Burger. Highly recommend. We loved our waiter. He was so welcoming and friendly, plus super efficient.

Great service, great food at reasonable prices. The Park Wood sets the standard for other diners to follow. Portion sizes are generous without being too much. With free WiFi the location in downtown Maplewood is super convenient. I will definitely make this place one of my regular stopping points.

Had lunch here for the first time, and it was a great diner experience. From seating to check out. Our waitress was friendly and attentive. The food was really good too.

Food was good, owner too petty!!!!I ordered Chicken Santorini ( it usually comes shrimp but I replaced with chicken ) $22.95 for the dish. No change in cost for the replacement of cheaper protein. I had Two cokes. Petty Pete the owner, told the waitress to charge me $1.25 for the lemons for my food and beverage. NEVER AGAIN. How Petty. I didn’t order water and lemons.I had cokes. My dad had breakfast food. Avoid this spot. Not worth the nonsense. $50 ( tip included)too much.

Service was nice, the food was just ok. My husbands chicken from his sandwich was very bland. He ate about 2 bites and then ate around the chicken The potatoes from my egg benedict were very dry. The Benedict was good, it came with a sauce smothered on top and it was A Lot. I would've asked for it on the side. But our french toast and bacon was good

So my last dining experience at Park Wood Diner was about 6 years ago. The place has since been renovated/updated. The food is so, so. The server wasn't that great, surprising since there were only two other tables occupied. I guess I'll return in another several years or may perhaps not at all.

Very tasty food and fast service. Went for the barbarian omelette and it did not disappoint. I later realized that the diner was more Greek oriented and should have made my choice to a more traditional Greek meal. I will make the effort to come here again.

Excellent service. Family atmosphere. The pancakes are light with good flavor. Definately above the chain pancake houses. The prices are great. This IS the Maplewood Spot
