Amazing food , BUT you have to know how to do things and don’t just let them hound you and bully you into getting things … here is how you do it , go past all the people trying to usher you into a restaurant and walk into the market proceeds to look at all the different choices and ask for prices and only after looking at all the stalls decide on what you want to eat ..: Pick some shrimp , calamari , clams and or fish , however make sure to check for freshness and when you pick what you want ask to get the exact one you want. When you pick shrimp don’t let them Grab a huge hand full , instead pick them one by one as usually the ones on the top are freshest and they will grab a few from the bottom you can’t see that are not so fresh … Once you get whatever seafood you want you can have one of the guys there in the market clean it it’ll be a few extra bucks and then bring it outside to the restaurant and have them cook it for you my favorite style is number two

The fish market. There are no words to express the wonderful assortment and variety of seafood. The way its prepared is unparalleled. This is a must stop if you're ever in Maputo. Whether you're alone or with the rest of your family, go and have a bite here. You will never ever get seafood made this way and how fresh it is.

Definitely a spectacle worth a walk through! You can purchase local catches fresh off the boats including many different fish to all kinds of seafood on the spot and bring it to the restaurant area next door where they will prepare it for you right there! Of course you can also just take it home. Some excellent photo ops in the market! Prepare to be followed by the restaurant people when you enter the market area and pressured and "guided" basically non stop. If you buy anything you are swarmed to go to their stall to have it prepared. There will be some arguing and you just have to pick someone and go with them if you plan to eat there. As soon as that happens everyone dissipates and lets you go on your way no problem! If you go to just eat in the restaurant area it is very expensive. Significantly cheaper if you do the market thing first and bring it to be prepared. While eating you will have a barrage of people peddling their wares come to your table. Fairly easy to dismiss/ignore if you don't want to actually do this during your meal....but their prices are quite fair if you are in the market for small local crafty things! Everyone is reasonable and polite as long as you are, despite the unfamiliarity of the situation (assuming you aren't accustomed to it!)

Really nice place and great idea to have the restaurants combined with the fish market. It is on a nice stretch of beach with lots of tiny crabs. If you like seafood I think that this is a must visit. I don't like to haggle so I asked Rocky at restaurant no. 16 to come with me to the market and help me to buy without getting ripped off (and also because I don't speak Portuguese). I already had a price guide from my Mozambican friend of how much I should expect to pay per kilo for buying and also for cooking. Rocky helped me to negotiate the right price and then cooked the food for me charging me the correct amount my friend had suggested (actually it came in slightly cheaper). It was honestly some of the best seafood I have ever tasted and completely stress free. I would recommend anyone who is unsure about their negotiation skills or Portuguese to just ask for Rocky when you arrive and the others will bring you too him.

Incredible Place, Friendly Staff and the Best and Cheapest Seafood in Maputo. It's more than just a fish market, it's an experience to see all kinds of fish and to try the traditional way of cooking and preparing of meals. Will definitely make it my aim to visit the market on every trip I come to Maputo. P.S. See You Soon. 👍🏼😁🏖🤩👌🏼

Always a good experience to be here. Except for the guys who dodge your way trying to sell their services. But, they're not honest, has they overcharge, or in other words still from you. If it wasn't for this, this place would have a perfect score.

It's located in coast area in Maputo. If you want to eat seafood, you should go. These were amazing! And you could drink Manica, which is one of the Mozambique beer.

Definitely not worth it. They show one price on the menu with accompaniments and then want to charge you again for it. Also waited 3 hours for the food and it was cold. Overpriced and the local try to do you down. Won't ever suggest this place to anyone

Too many con people here...from the time they see get off the cab they are there waiting to lure you. There is the one side where they sell fresh fish and the other side cooked fish. The fish is overpriced and just make sure you're lucky to get a restaurant with decent food. I think the place is overrated.

The idea was great. Seafood and especially Prawns are a highlight of Mozambique. Sadly, those working for the adjacent restaurants kept hounding us to choose their place and it became a little jarring after a while. We decided not to select our seafood but chose from a menu instead. It took about 45 mins for the food to arrive but when it finally arrived it was delicious. We payed about £35 for prawns, a snapper and two beers. The hostess tried to bump us with the bill but I didn't let her get away with it. We are at number 8

I've been a few times and always enjoyed my experience. If you like fresh seafood... stop by and pick some up. Once purchased, head next door to a stall where they'll be happy to cook your meal, or head home. Most stalls have friendly staff with side items and cold drinks to serve with your meal. Medium shrimp were roughly 1000mt per kilo, side items were about 300mt, beers were 150mt.

The best place to eat fresh fish in Maputo. You buy here freshly caught fish at very low prices (400Mt 1kg of squid and 700Mt 1kg of prawns), for a few hundred Metical is cleaned, cooked and served at the table. Advice to eat in this place during the week because the weekend is full of people. You can only have lunch and do not have dinner

Best fish I have ever had. The food is well prepared and well priced.

Interesting place, where it is possible to buy fresh fish and to have it cooked nearby. Be aware that the places where they offer to cook the fish try to scam tourists by asking 5 times the actual price. We had to argue at and even if we ended up paying 1/3 of what they wanted to charge us, we still paid way too much for Maputo. The tiger prawns were awesome, though.
