I've
visited
Athens
over
10
times,
but
this
was
my
first
visit
to
this
Olympic
complex.
It
was
built
for
the
2004
Olympics
and
consists
of
several
venues
for
all
sports.
The
complex
is
located
in
the
northern
Athens
suburbs,
so
ignore
some
reviews
here
saying
this
is
the
historic
marble
stadium
-
IT
IS
NOT
-
that
one
is
in
downtown
Athens.
We
visited
it
for
the
Iron
Maiden
concert
held
here
on
16/07/22.
Before
the
concert
we
walked
around
the
huge
complex
grounds,
seeing
a
lot
of
modern,
but
at
the
same
time
neglected
architecture.
The
main
stadium
is
certainly
the
biggest
attraction
-
outstanding
modern
design.
It
reminds
on
Santiago
Calatrava's
architecture
with
an
extensive
use
of
curved
metal
structures
(maybe
even
he
is
a
designer,
I
don't
know).
The
stadium
inside
is
enormous
-
despite
the
fact
there
were
50.000
fans
at
the
Iron
Maiden
concert
it
looked
semi-empty
-
the
upper
seating
ring
wasn't
even
put
to
sale.
Seeing
that
huge
space
and
other
semi
neglected
buildings
around,
I
recalled
an
article
I've
read
few
years
ago
that
the
Greek
financial
crisis
and
bankruptcy
started
with
organizing
the
Olympics.
