When
we
entered
the
room,
I
noticed
some
reading
material
left
conspicuously
out
on
the
bedside
table,
a
Swedish
language
copy
of
Sabine
Dardenne's
"I
Choose
to
Live"
describing
her
harrowing
80
day
captivity
in
the
hands
of
Marc
Dutroux.
An
ironic
choice,
considering
how
our
single
night
would
unfold
at
this
avoid
at
all
costs
Riad
conveniently
located
in
the
center
of
the
Old
Madina
of
Marrekesh.
First
of
all
the
place
is
nearly
impossible
to
find
even
with
gps.
It
is
located
in
the
labyrinthine
Medina
and
looks
for
all
intents
and
purposes
like
the
door
of
a
house,
no
signage,
nothing
to
indicate
where
you
are.
Host
was
thoroughly
unfriendly
and
almost
immediately
demanded
we
owed
him
more
than
the
listed
price
including,
as
other
people
have
noticed,
the
infamous
"cleaning
services"
taxes
??
No
credit
card
payment
option
(which
I
was
ultimately
thankful
for)
and
he
led
us
to
our
room.
While
the
small
courtyard
and
stairwells/balconies
of
the
riad
are
quiet
airy
and
well
ventilated,
we
were
greeted
with
the
peculiar
odor
of
effluvia
and
raw
sewage
as
we
entered
the
tiny
room.
Now,
I
typically
prefer
budget
hotels
and
Riads
and
Morocco
and
Marakesh
are
full
of
excellent
options,
but
this
was
another
level
entirely.
The
smell
of
the
room
can
only
be
described
as
trench
warfare
in
a
cesspit
and
should
perhaps
be
sanctioned
by
the
U.N.
and
it
was
far
worse
in
the
bathroom.
Also,
no
soap,
no
shampoo,
nada.
Also
I
hope
youre
comfortable
with
showering/
going
to
the
toilet
in
full
view
of
your
room
companion
(fortunately
I
was)
but
there
is
only
a
sheer
curtain
separating
the
bathroom
from
the
beds!
Wifi
is
also
a
no
go,
had
to
spot
myself.
I
quickly
informed
the
owner
we
would
not
be
staying
two
nights
as
we
had
reserved.
Woke
up
with
a
headache
from
the
smell
and
ran
out
of
there
to
get
back
to
Gueliz.
Such
a
shame
as
the
place
does
have
a
great
location
and
could
theoretically
be
a
great
place
to
stay.
Until
they
get
their
amenities
and
that
crazy
sewage
smell
out
of
control
though,
I
cannot
recommend
staying
there.
AVOID
AT
ALL
COSTS.
