A great pub, restaurant and garden area (probably best in the area), and a pretty great chicken parmy 🐔

This inner city hotel is definitely worth visiting. Weekly trivia nights , modern fresh interiors, great food menus ( as well as a good kids menu) and friendly staff as well !

Good inner city Sydney pub. Friendly staff and also a dog friendly beer garden. Make sure you enunciate clearly when ordering at the bistro as they can be a little hard of hearing and it's kind of awkward when one of your party misses out on a meal.

the mandarin duck of inner west pubs. the building is a marvel of art deco architecture, while the outdoor smoking area brings to mind a ruined aztec temple. i have somehow become friends with all the staff in all iterations and have begun wondering if they have a strict policy of only hiring absolute bloody legends. the beer selection is nothing short of divine decadence. five stars is not enough!

It’s a place where friends always want to meet up. Decent drink options like most of the inner west. Food is very average. I wouldn’t eat here if it wasn’t for being social. Outside area is nice for hanging out though and service is good.

Great to have more food choices than the average pub grub. Everything was delicious and well presented. Beer garden is like a jungle and needs a bit of attention but would definitely go back for the food.

my chicken burger was the most foul tasting thing, my friends parma looked like it came out of a retirement village and my other friends schnitzel was mediocre. maybe if this place had some decent service you’d look past the disgusting food, however, that’s not the case. both ladies that serviced my friends and i simply didn’t want to be there and were blunt and couldn’t have given less of care about their job. for the price you pay it is not worth it unless you like the idea of spending upwards on $30 a person to get food poisoning and attacked by a bunch of people who you were nothing but nice to.

Great pub to visit. Decently priced beers , decent pub food with adequate portions. Enjoyable atmosphere, not pretentious, just chilled .

We love living near The Barley . We eat here about once or twice a month . The schnitzel and mash is the best! Better than any other pub in Newtown . We love bringing our dog Lulu. I’m leaving this review because I don’t want this place to change . We love love love it . Oh, and the service is excellent as well !

An old favourite watering hole for me, perfect when you need a good old fashioned pub experience with a few mates. The food is great, drinks are well priced and the staff are friendly :)

Went here for dinner and drinks last weekend. It’s a great spot with a nice outdoor area and cosy indoor dining area. I had the octopus with labne and salad, which was tasty and full of flavour. I’d definitely come back here.

Good neighborhood pub. Lots of inner west beers, bands a few nights per week, queer friendly, good food, friendly regulars. Beer garden is wonderful on a warm night. Gets crowded when it’s raining because only a few tables are under cover.

The bare staff are petty good. The chicken was cooked spot on The tomato sauce base was full of flavor. The cheese was good and topped with Parmesan cheese. Good Call thex chips are were hot and fresh. The salad was a good size but the dressing a little plane. four and a half plates cleaned.

As with anything in life, your own circumstances influence your experiences. Golden Barley Hotel is probably a great place given the right circumstances. There is a good range of beers on tap and live music gives it a nice atmosphere. However, it is not very family friendly. Food is expensive. Not a great ambience for eating or chatting with family/friends. Remember it is a pub! As far as pubs go, it’s not too bad. I’d still eat elsewhere though, given the cost of food.

Very nice pub. It has a beautiful dog friendly garden. I had a delicious vegan shared plate which was done very quick as well.

Can't say to the food, so keep that in mind with my rating. That in mind, I really enjoyed this pub. Their beer garden alone would make me walk past other pubs just to get to them! Their tap selection is great, the staff is really friendly and they're DOG friendly!!! Would recommend, and will go again!

I celebrated my birthday with a bunch of friends and couldn't recommend this place enough. Penny was accommodating and staff were really helpful with our requests. Food was delicious with different options available in the menu. Baby-friendly and music not too loud. No extra-charge for bringing in a cake (they even got me plates and cutlery). Definitely worthy a good tip for their excellent service.

Nice vibes with a nice outdoor seating area. There are large tables suitable for bigger groups, and also suitable for families with children. Well lit environment with natural lighting. Order food at the counter.

I dined here for dinner before a trivia night, it was a Tuesday. We arrived early (6pm) so we could have dinner prior to trivia starting. We were the only people in the whole pub apart from two people in the main bar. We ordered and sat in the dining room, the food is pretty much classic pub style, but they do have a large kids menu and a lot of vegetarian & vegan options. I ordered a steak, it was cooked perfectly medium-rare & the pepper sauce was so good. The bar staff were staff were super friendly & there is a great selection of local beers & wine.

First time visit, which is criminal! This is a beautiful pub with a fabulously diverse range of draught beers (goldie oldies plus craft selections), a gorgeous beer garden and delightful staff. I can't wait to return to try the food; from what I saw as plates passed me, it looked fab.

Great place. Haven't been out for 3 years to a pub. Nice beer garden. Had to book ahead for a table on Saturday evening. Wet night and staff are very accommodating to assist us. Menu for food is regular pub food done well with a few more unusual options. Dogs we're allowed in the garden area and kids are permitted in the dining area. Reasonable selection of beers supporting some of the local small breweries.

Excellent place to have a nice meal. The food was delicious my fish and chips was crispy and tasty. My partner had the grilled barramundi and he loved it. The serve is large and the prices are reasonable not cheap but the quality is excellent. Staff are very nice and very friendly. The atmosphere was great, nice music in the background and the garden looks beautiful especially the frangipani. Definitely we are coming here again and again.

So I'm back in Sydney for a few days and I had take take my family and friends to "The Barley" I wish we had something that even came close to this in Adelaide. This place truly shows the value of a short menu, quality produce and great service. Food prepared in house with little or no prepared buy ins. The atmosphere here is great and it matches the incredible food. Huge selection of beers on tap too

👍 Made a booking and we were told we can stay for 1.5 hours. No issues. We ended up staying longer, thanks to one of the lovely host giving us another 30 minutes to stay.
