Not impressed. Sorry but when you pay nearly $200 a night for a place in Masterton you expect better. Two tiny towels provided for two adults and one toddler and when asked for more were going to charge us $2 Xtra per towel? Say what? For three of us two towels?? Spa broken down, games area had few decent toys for kids, Front desk staff had no breakfast menus and no knowledge about the meals. really unimpressed. Won't be staying here again.

Having stayed here in 2017 and loved that experience, I was looking forward to getting back to Solway Park, but unfortunately our recent stay (three nights in a family room) was a let down. Starting with the room - it was in bad need of some basic maintenance with loose fittings in both the toilet and the bathroom. On the first night I resorted to tightening the screw on the toilet door knob using the solitary kitchenette knife as it was so loose it felt like it was going to fall off. There were similar loose fittings in the bathroom too, including the shower head. Likewise grout lifting in the shower tiles suggested the interior of the room had not been adequately maintained in a while. Communal areas, on the other hand, were in good nick, with the outdoor and indoor pools being great, and likewise for the kids play area. Unfortunately, due to short staffing, the Grill restaurant was not available for the cooked breakfasts we had paid for in our room rate. We didn’t know this was the case until turning up for breakfast on our first morning, where we were told about it, and that we were meant to be informed on check in (which didn’t happen). We were refunded some of our room rate, though arguably not the difference to a cooked breakfast at a cafe. So a continental breakfast of toast, cereal, juice, coffee, and fruit followed, where we heard several other guests wake to the same news about there not being a cooked breakfast. It should be noted that throughout this the staff were friendly, efficient, and apologetic about the situation with the restaurant, which was understandable in the current covid environment. However it should’ve been communicated to guests ahead of time, as it had evidently been ongoing judging by things. However, for what you’re paying to stay at Solway Park, we decided that next time we’d be better spending that money either in Wellington for a better maintained room and still getting breakfast or at least being walking distant to more options. Unfortunately we’re unlikely to be back until we’ve seen things have been turned around by the owners.

Had a very pleasant stay in Masterton, friendly service and comfortable rooms. The only issue was that the card reader to the door of my room was faulty, resulting in a few trips back to the reception. New room was given and issue was resolved quickly.

Found this place needed an update on the paint work, bbq was not in the best shape... regardless it was an amazing stay and even booked it again this weekend. Service was amazing and the pool was the best... thank you and see you this weekend... stayed again on the 4th of Feb used the restaurant and it was horrible. Food was not good at all and for the price of it I do have a certain expectation of how it should be, none the less I would of let that go had the staff made that up with exceptional service. Which was not to happen either, there were plenty of staff and no real direction. Wouldn't eat here again nor would I invite others too, such a shame to ruin our experience of such a great weekend there.

Fairly basic rooms, clean enough inside but bit grubby outside the entrance and seating area. Restaurant food was fine but the service was seriously lacking. Huge complex with lots of stuff for kids.

Average. Looking very tired in need of a makeover. Restaurant dinner was average and service poor. Never got asked if we wanted another drink or dessert. Left our table after the main. No staff around. Rooms were clean

I love staying here, but each time the cleaning of the room gets worse and worse. This time, once again, I found unwashed teaspoons and a kettle from which it was hard to dare to drink water.

Lovely place and people. Decent rooms and corridors, loved the pool. I think some people are quite mean by giving 1* or 2 for such place. We only wished a bit more variety for the open buffet breakfast. Other than it is all great experience! Thank you 😊

Nice hotel. Rooms fine. Had to wait for ages to get a beer, but people were friendly. Seems understaffed in F&B

Hotel itself could do with a freshen up but it seems they've started on that ... I'd stay away from the restaurant. Chef needs to stop trying to be OTT and focus on producing quality good but simple food. Waiting nearly a hour for a cold (overcooked) steak isn't OK ....still waiting for a bottle of water being brought to the table and waited 45 minutes for a desert menu but gave up in the end. Got room service second night. Still looking for the cheese in the cheese burger. Should have gone to McDonald's, definitely a better quality of burger there. Pool was fantastic as was the staff ....

Stayed for 2 nights for 2nd time. We were more than satisfied with our stay. Had 1 breakfast and 1 room service meal, both a pleasure to consume. Well groomed rooms and very quite well off the highway. We could not speak more highly of everyone on the staff, so obliging, a pleasure to met. Very nice people.

Title: Pleasant Stay at Copthorne Masterton Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Review: I recently had the pleasure of staying at Copthorne Masterton and it was a wonderful experience. The hotel staff was extremely friendly and accommodating, making me feel welcome from the moment I arrived. The rooms were clean, comfortable, and well-appointed, providing a cozy and relaxing atmosphere. The hotel's location is convenient, with easy access to local attractions and amenities. The on-site dining options were delicious, offering a variety of tasty dishes. The facilities, including the pool and fitness center, were well-maintained and enjoyable to use. Overall, my stay at Copthorne Masterton was delightful, and I highly recommend it to anyone visiting the area.

rooms are dated and in need of a refurbish into the 21st century atmosphere is dull and uninviting for the space that it has and street presence .it lacks any life or real friendly inviting staff! that was my experience after staying the night. Food that was served in our conference was ho hum nothing to write home about. The impression of Copthorne and the actual are way apart... something is missing .

Thanks for letting us stay at your hotel. Rooms are nice. Kettle doesn't fit under the tap though so may be worth installing some to accommodate. Beds are comfy, I had a great sleep.

The mould on the bathroom grouting has been there for so long it has turned pink. They really need to spray bleach on the grouting each time they clean the bathroom. They could do with with a small UHT milk or soy milk to go with the coffee sachets. None were provided in the fridge or on the counter. The beds were comfortable and nicely made, but they could still do with a brochure that points you to their amenities and available services, and not just to a webpage online to give you that information.

When you walk into the hallways for the rooms it is apparent the resort is not a new build and it is coming due for a refurbishment which appeared to be starting as I was there. Overall the rooms are well appointed with the rooms spacious and the bathrooms well laid out. Again the rooms could do with some refurbishments as the floor to ceiling windows leaked water into the room during heavy rain and the bathroom tiles and door were starting to show signs of mould. Two areas that really let the resort down was the condition of the roads around the resort as some of the pot holes could be classed as inland lakes and the food, over the course of a week the meals were hit and miss for quality and at times seemed to be trying too hard to be posh but lacking the quality and taste to back it up. Overall a nice place but there is room for improvement. Although the gym was not overly large and not really good for more than 2 people to use at one time it was reasonably well appointed and the indoor heated pool was a nice addition to relax in after a long day.

Terrible stay over Easter this place has gone to the pack. Unfriendly front office staff, reception smells like fried food. Bar not open till 4pm. Curtains hanging down in room. Pool area filthy with dead bugs and dust everywhere. Spa freezing. Games room dismal. You had to hire pool towels?! Furniture in bar falling apart. Definitely should not be calling themselves a ‘hotel’. It’s motel standard at best. Avoid.

We have just celebrated Robs 80th with an overnight stay. Everything was perfect. The staff were attentive, the food was excellent and we all enjoyed ourselves. Our room and that of our guests were very clean and well stocked we all had a great night's sleep in very comfortable beds

Loved this Copthorne Hotel, very organised and room just lovely, roomy and able to open the French door for fresh air. Great meals and breakfast included in room price, very reasonable.

I've stayed at a few motels not impressed with this motel maybe if you had the cleaner/ receptionist from the Acorn Estate motel alot of your reviews wouldn't be so bad her service is warm and welcoming everyday we were there. Rooms were so clean and tidy and room service was always done to perfection the owners and the head cleaner were so understanding for my son is autistic but here at Copthorne the front desk staff were rude and the house keeping staff weren't very clean. VERY UNEXPRESSED IF ACORN ESTATE WASNT FULL I WOULD HAVE STAYED THERE.

Look, I’m not one to complain
I had been staying at the Copthorne for the last two years each month for work, Normally 3 days at a time. The staff are positive and friendly but that’s about where it stops. The restaurant is very sub par. I have exclusively ordered the chips when I’m there because it’s over priced and the food is extremely underwhelming. Often cold, poorly cooked or just downright gross. Tonight’s fish and chips was $32 for what was a piece of fish the size of my finger wrapped in 3cm of doughy batter. A $6 can of Coke Zero and a half empty crĂšme brĂ»lĂ©e. Feel free to check out the general reviews on google/Facebook In terms of the room, not bad. It’s comfortable and has basic amenities you’d expect. However what lead me to write this, tonight of all nights, is that I draw the line at cockroaches. Not one, not two, THREE in my room climbing over the bedside table and wall (all of which I photographed). Honestly guys? I genuinely fear for an infestation. I had moved all my luggage to my car and if it wasn’t for the fact work was paying for this and I had to be up at 5am I would be gone in a second back home to Wellington. Will Definately be talking with regards to alternative accomodation moving forward.

Copthorne Hotel and Resort in Solway, Masterton is a high class establishment, providing both accommodation and excellent dining (at Grills Restaurant). The rooms are comfortable and well organized. The beds were comfy, everyone (including the kids) slept well. They also have both an outdoor and indoor pool. The outdoor pool is a good size and has depths that cater for the young and old. Unfortunately the indoor pool was not functioning for the duration of our stay and this is the only reason for the four star rating, everything else would have justified 5 stars. Would love to stay there again.

Worked there 40 years ago. Was expecting a bit more, expensive for what you got. Bed was very comfortable luckily. Place looking a bit sad, indoor pool looked amazing

  • 1/5 Hannah R. 2 years ago on Google
Was not what we were expecting. The room did not look like the photos, it’s cold and sad. It literally felt like a psych ward. We booked for 3 adults and were only catered for 2, we were given a small lounge with 2 double beds in it, a dining table with 2 chairs and a bathroom fit enough to be a public rest room 🙄 Customer service at the front desk was good, she was very good with communication and lovely to deal with. I asked her if we had to pay anything because we were not happy with what they gave us and wanted to leave and she didn’t charge us and we were able to leave so for THAT reason we give 2 Stars. Put it this way, we walked in the room and walked straight out, sat in our car and looked for other accomodation it was that sad.

Staff friendly and helpful (no complaints here), caters for both families and corporate good facilities etc. Food was okay steak cold. Bit annoyed with cleaners didn’t take dishes away, fan vents in bathroom dirty with dust - lack of information except if you go on the internet. Its good for 1 or 2 days but not for longer. Also colleague staying asked for late checkout and they said no can’t do that fully booked (there wasn’t anyone there though the place was empty)

👍 Classic Kiwi pub. No fuss, friendly service. Chips tasted like chips and beer tasted like beer and was nice and cold. Some local characters had some banter amongst themselves which you can choose to get in on or not. Nice large garden and picnic area. Great old school, nostalgic experience.
