An absolute highlight of my time in Timor-Leste. Sunset over the ocean was incredible, but the open fire and watching the Balibo film right on the spot where it happened was truly magic. The staff here are so accommodating and made our stay a truly special one. The only disappointing thing for me was the food menu, and it’s a real shame to see pizza and pasta being served instead of local Timorese or Portuguese cuisine. I felt like the food was overpriced and a bit of a let down, especially when everything else has been done so well here. Also some more plant-based options would be great :) The rooms, the decor and the service are truly brilliant… even the music in the main building is perfect! overall a great stay at the Balibo Fort and a truly memorial experience.

Balibo Heritage Hotel is one the locations of Timor Awakening Program. This program is designed to help Australian and Timor-Leste war veterans overcome PTSD. Balibo is historical place and highly recommend to stay few nights and learn about the history of this amazing place.

Great spot to stay in Balibo. Modern rooms in the middle of the old fort. Has a great Independence Museum in the old prison cells.

I did not stay in the rooms as we only came for a short visit but if the standard is as good as the dining area I'm confident it would be great . We had drinks on the lawn. They are doing up the place a bit at the moment and they brought our table out so we were in the open air . Drinks were reasonably priced and the staff was friendly . I'd love to come back for a longer visit . Recommended .

A fantastic getaway. It was quiet, the views are stunning. The prices are high but the service is amazing and the restaurant is very good.

The breathtaking views alone from this boutique hotel, built within the walls of a 400 year old Portuguese fort, make the trip worthwhile. The hotel is terrific, and there is more to see and do with the Balibo Trails guides. Or just lie by the pool and enjoy the incredible view.

This site/building has some hidden history overtime, ww2 Japanese occupation, Indonesian forces, with INTERFET peacekeepers 1999. Out the front gate and 73 steps down to the local village. Balibo 5 trust building only meters away. Not a lot of tourists around this area.

Location location location with this hotel. Across the road from the Balibo 5 flag house and in an old fort. Complete with cannon. It's not cheap, rooms are very nice and the service is only ok. I think the mountain view are best. But you've come this far so have some luxury. And the view down to the coast for sunset is best of all.

Balibo Fort, a 350 year old garrison built by the Portuguese to oversee and have control over the trades around Banda and Timor Seas. The remnants of the Fort was refurbished and converted into a hotel by Melbourne Club to promote tourism in Timor-Leste in the year 2016. Located in Bobonaro Municipality, about 125 kms away from Dili. The rooms are big enough for 2 persons, very tidy and clean. Toilets are fine. Foods are somewhat expensive, but didn't like the taste. I tried Chicken Pizza and Fried Rice. Service persons friendly.
