I’ve been meaning to try Mr. Tokyo Japanese Restaurant for awhile. I must admit, the all you can eat deal scared me a little when it comes to sushi but finally tried it. We got there on a Monday night at 6pm and got seated right away! By the time we left at 730, there was a wait! Our server Nancy was friendly and swift and very attentive. They gave us ginger and wasabi and paper menus to place our order. We were hungry and ordered a lot! The sushi pieces and rolls were good for all you can eat. Is it the best sushi I’ve had, definitely not, but for the price, it was fresh and flavorful and there was a lot of variety. They also made the all you can eat rules very clear. I’d definitely go back!!

I've been here several times and usually end up feeling ill after. This was the last straw. There was a tiny cockroach on my plate that they served my sushi on. They placed the sushi on top of the cockroach so I didn't see it until after I ate the sushi. I let my waiter know. He went to the chefs. The chefs said "We don't know how it got there." In return, they offer me a 20% discount. 20%?? Are you kidding me?? Absolutely disgusting and even more appalled that they made me pay for any of my meal.

The food was really good and it all came out quickly too! They had plenty of staff to make rolls, our server was friendly, and overall the lunch price was very fair! Highly recommend if you want unlimited sushi!

It was delicious. My favorite part is how you get unlimited sushi for a great price. Customer service was good, and I never had to ask for a drink to be refilled, and that’s very important. The environment was also friendly; it felt pleasant when you walked in.

I have been to Mr. Tokyo 3 times now. I like to visit a place several times before leaving a review for consistency. Every time I have been the food has been delicious and the service has been excellent. The unlimited meals include soups, salads, appetizers, hibachi, teriyaki and more. The sushi selection is large. The key is to order a little at a time to make sure you don’t have any leftovers. You can take your time eating. They don’t rush you at all. By ordering smaller portions you can guarantee you eat all that you ordered. With food prices skyrocketing, the prices are excellent. I visit another sushi restaurant and pay $20 for just two rolls, Taking that into consideration I understand why they would charge for leftovers or take home items.

We heard a-lot about this place esp the mathews branch and all for the right reasons. The ambience, service and food is top notch. We were in sushi heaven as the all you can eat sushis are well curated, filling and flavorful. The trick is to order slowly and fill yourself up because they charge you extra $0.50-$3.00 depending on the type of sushis that are leftover. Note rest of the items even if left out are not charged. Good thing is you are allowed to take the leftovers at home to munch in so it’s a winwin for all :) all in all a wonderful experience with friends!!

We have been numerous times to this location, and honestly, it is hit or miss on service. They close to prepare for dinner at 3 pm and reopen at 4 pm. We got there right at 4 pm, and we're sat down right away. This is an all you can eat sushi. It's a fixed price, and you can order sushi, appetizer, hibachi grill, and dessert as well. We have never had any "bad" sushi since we have started coming here. Every time, the sushi is always fresh and very tasteful. The servers are always polite and friendly and make excellent recommendations, and take the time to explain the process of you being new there. I will say to try to get there before the dinner rush. Last time we arrived around 6 pm and weren't seated until about 7:30 pm as it does get packed. Now I do prefer a buffet, but whenever someone suggests this place, I'm always down to go.

I visited Mr. Tokyo for the first time recently...and I really enjoyed my experience. I love the concept! It’s like an all you can eat...but NOT a buffet! Food is Great! A lot of choices, and comes out quickly. Be forewarned, any food left over costs extra for you to take with you. So just order a little at a time to try different things. I loved all the sushi dishes I tried, but I didn’t care much for the vegetable tempura, the veggies were too big and there was too much breading. Also, the waitress could have been a little friendlier. It’s a little pricey with dinner priced at about $20 per person, so go hungry to try and get your money’s worth.

Delicious sushi and rolls. Finally, the menu highlights “spicy rolls” in red. What’s going on with the price? Why do you keep increasing the cost per person? Stop it! The service is good. Your restaurant is very dirty, do a general cleaning and this applies not only to the floor and tables!

Went here for unlimited sushi on my birthday. Menu and website said the hours were 11-3:30. We arrived at 2:33p and they said they changed the time. I asked to talk to manager and showed her that they advertised unlimited sushi till 3:30. She said sorry we have not updated our times, menus, websites. Being that is was my birthday and only 3 mins past the new time that they stopped serving unlimited and they had not updated their advertising to reflect the change I was surprised and disappointed that they would not accommodate us being 3 mins outside the cut off time.

Terrible service. Do NOT recommend this location. This is my boyfriends and I usual to go spot for sushi but last night ruined that for us. We went at around 7:30PM and had a 30 minute wait (not unusual, this is a very busy location). We were sat down and given our drinks. It took about 20 minutes for her to come back and grab our check sheets (since we both did the all-you-can-eat). Our food came out promptly. We finished our food... which you can CLEARLY tell since we had almost no plates on our table. A nice gentleman picked up our plates, but after that.... I have no idea what happened to our waitress. She never not once came back. Not to check on us, not to give us another sheet because we were doing the all you can eat... not ONCE. I was so upset I just asked for the check and we left. Worst experience ever. Will not be returning. It’s a great place with a great price for sushi but terrible service. Even when we left there was two hostess at front and neither of them even bothered to say thank you for coming or have a good night... simply unprofessional. Oh and we did pay for the full price of our dinner even though we weren’t even given the chance to order more than once.

Brought our family of four, when all want sushi this is where you go. For the cost of one fancy roll at other sushi restaurants here you get all you can get all you can eat here including apps and hibachi! We all left satisfied for sure. Sashimi is my favorite and was able to enjoy a lot of it without breaking the bank. We enjoys all the dishes we got. We will definitely be back for more family dinners.

By far the best value in Sushi in the Charlotte area. Quality sushi, appetizers, hibachi, udon, etc. with excellent service. Come hungry.

The food was reasonable for a buffet, and the price is fair if you eat enough! Mochi ice cream is worth a try (I had the strawberry) as the texture is quite nice. If you're looking for quality over quantity, be selective with your roll selection or check out other local spots as well.

Pretty good, I had the Dragon roll and Salmon Lover roll. Dragon roll was not as good as other types of dragon rolls I've had at other sushi restaurants but the salmon and the Avocado salad was very good!

Came in with some family for all you can eat sushi. Nice spot and staff was friendly. Food was actually executed fairly quick, but we were on the tail end of their lunch. Very busy, but nigiri in my opinion had way too much rice.

If I could give them a Zero star review I would. There are several issues with this place. 1. CUSTOMER SERVICE IS HORRIBLE I CALLED TO complain about my food being damn near undercooked and ANGELICA (her name in caps because she refused to give me her but it was on my receipt) she HUNG UP ON ME and when I called back because I thought we got disconnected. When I called back she didn’t answer my call, then I called from my husband phone and she answered. When I told her what’s the issue was with my food. She stated she “didn’t understand” and made excuses that it could be a different chef etc. 2. They told me 20 minutes wait it was 50 minutes. My husband was waiting in the waiting area for the food, and they never even told him it was read. Even after he had already signed the receipt and told them he was waiting. 3. The chicken was pale it didn’t even look like hibachi and it was drowning in a pool of juices. She stated it was teriyaki but the flavor was minimal. Overall after being a customer with them several other times as well as the location on 51. I will no longer go to this restaurant due to poor food quality, and poor customer service. Spent almost $30 and had to go out and get more food for dinner because this was just not edible for us.

Of all locations, I think this is the best one. I don't really mind driving (30 min) past Pineville to get here. The all you can eat sushi is unbeatable.

I haven’t eaten in Just yet since Covid started. My personal opinion they have the best hibachi/fried rice in Charlotte. “The flavors” They are not stingy with the meat or vegetables. Not even the yum yum sauce. You better stop playing and hit ”Call”

I’ll start by saying the food is delicious, but the service was extremely TERRIBLE!!! Our server was Josh and yes we realized that we came in towards the end of the night. We should not, as patrons, be continuously reminded that they are closing and have to feel rushed and uncomfortable. In addition to that I ordered a house salad and I was immediately told that they ran out. We were also told that they ran out of wasabi and rice. What?!? This is a Japanese restaurant. How on earth do you not have either of those two things?! The funny part is my dinner date got rice on his hibachi plate, but I didn’t. The waitress or whoever she was didn’t have the decency to even mention it and just tried to drop it off like I wouldn’t notice. I will NEVER dine in this restaurant again. BEWARE!!!

An absolute gem for all sushi lovers! Fresh, delicious, all you can eat rolls ( includes specialty rolls), appetizers, soup & salad. Place is huge, clean with lots of parking & prices are reasonable. Staff is friendly & very attentive. Will definitely be back.

Really great variety and price. Staff is friendly and there’s only been an issue maybe once in the 10+ times we’ve gone. They do have extra options if you come for dinner. Price is 2x lunch, but still decent for the amount of food you can get. My girls love the miso soup and crab salad. We usually leave stuffed and skip breakfast to have brunch here.

Matthews location … popular… very popular… means very good value! Took my daughter and there was a waiting line … very nice hostess took our phone number and number of guests … she estimated 15 minutes of wait for us … Wow we were entered into a great online tool they use which showed exactly where we and all others stood in order … and the tool even shows each party waiting and how long they have waited… Eight minutes later BAM we were in! Amazing experience Sure this is popular and now we know why!

Well this place is a beautiful and pleasant surprise!! Matthew, our waiter was amazing, the place is not fancy but it was clean, the staff was nice, fast service, overall very good place, but the sushi really got me! You can choose from so many options from the all you can eat menu. Except one roll that had too much cream cheese, all the rolls were beautifully done, great flavor, fresh, and for someone visual like me, presentation is key and I was not disappointed! Rolls are big and priced right, I highly recommend this place and for now, is top on my list for sushi.

Love it! The waiter was so so great, smiling, joked with us, and had our food ready for us. The food is always good, we usually go to the Benfield one, but that always so busy & we always have to be texted when our table is ready, which could be an hour or more. Here, we walked right in & had a table. We will definitely come back here again.

My first experience in oriental food here in Charlotte and enjoyed quite a reasonably, reasonably priced tasty food clean environment and pleasant staff. The four stelas were due to the menu, they could put the images of the food for people like me who do not know if they are more comfortable in ordering the correct dish.

Table, seats, bathroom, and floors are disgusting. The floors are slippery especially in the bathroom which is a hazard. The tables are sticky. I've eaten here before and I am highly disappointed. They have a sanitary rating of 94.5. This may seem good but it's not. Drinks are uncovered.

The food was good, and came out fast, but it has the feel of a structured, rule enforced, militant mess hall. None of the staff appears happy to be working there (no one smiling). Coming from a family of restaurant owners, this is always sad to see. I also have a medical condition that requires a service dog, and can making functioning in public physically risky for me. This was the first time I wasn’t received kindly. I wound up having to explain myself and give out printed information on how the laws for service dogs work. (I hope they know a bit more now, so as not to put further stress on other disabled individuals). I was allowed in after that with a nod, but no smiles, and I had to take a few minutes to calm down with my dog after the stress, in order to read the menu. They also “don’t carry sugar”. The waitress was kind and went out of her way to find some in the back for my tea. This is also the first Japanese restaurant in my 48 years to not allow sides of steamed broccoli. I asked my two teenage kids if they would come back. “Food was good mom, but it’s not worth it. I prefer Osaka.”

SO wrong place to go this place with Family. On our way to home from shopping with my wife and Daughter, we went into the Restaurant for lunch on the labor Day. what we got is Hibachi looks like a leftover with broken plate as shown on the picture below. The assigned person the table doesn't care for my daughter even If she need extra empty cup, no one brings it at all. As I was not interested to eat that time, It was only my wife and my Daughter who wants to eat, But I was charged for two adult plate and my daughter plate. I was charged for not eating haha, This is not a Joke ! we Never had never seen things like this Before. It is not as It has seen on the picture on the website. What I have understand @ Mr Tokyo Japanese Restaurant is " They Disrespect a Family."

Absolutely amazing. We went in for the first time yesterday at 4 PM right when they opened for dinner. Our waiter, Brandon, was phenomenal. He explained everything in detail and had by far the best customer service skills I’ve ever witnessed in any restaurant. The food was super quick, it even shocked us! The variety is amazing and the ambience is very chill and relaxed. The food was very high quality and tasty. We will definitely be returning. Thank you Brandon and sushi chef’s!!

There was a 30 minute wait even at 5:15 on a Sunday. However, we enjoyed our Hibachi dinner and the Sushi going to the surrounding tables looked amazing. The food is definitely good quality and the portions are generous. I would say it's worth the money.

We drove here from Spartanburg, SC to try and it was definitely worth it. $20 a piece for all you can order sushi and appetizers! We had something like this near us that shut down due to covid and I did my research to see if there were any more like it. This was the closest to us (1.5 hrs) but it did not disappoint. Our waiter was very nice and attentive. We did have to wait for a table, but their wait list system is very efficient. We were able to see our place in line on our phones. Food was all very good. We were a little disappointed that dessert costs extra, but we will definitely be coming back.

Great place. Great food.. Great staff. Why it was a super great experience. We come here a lot. Love the sushi. Always good and always fun. I only have 5 stars cause that's all I had to work with. Used to give 2 thumbs up but then there was that crazy night in the saw mill.. So now 5 stars and 1 thumb up. Well really a thumb and nub. Still best sushi around.

The other day I drove from half a town ( I called them before coming, because it was saying they are closing @ 3pm - till 4pm ) they told me as long I would come before 3pm they could get me seated, I drove there, come in 2:50 pm , they told, we can not get you seated, I have asked for a manager, and she told if I would be there @ 2:45pm they would let me in! Very upset that this restaurant is allowing customers to come in and be seated without masks (after the stricter gov mandated mask policy). Will not dine here ( or any restaurant that puts profit before the safety of their customers) again. A large party came in not wearing masks, they started to seat them behind me. When I complained they asked if I'd like to move to another table. What???? Really??? No thanks.
